Chapter 445: Chapter 265: An Incomprehensible Invention (First Update)_1

The true door had been opened by the Teddy Bears, and beyond it lay a dense darkness that couldn’t be dissipated, making it very hard to see exactly what was behind.

The only source of light was a beacon in the darkness, a blue inverted triangular arrow pulsing up and down on the ground, guiding Wang in the direction to move forward.

Rows of Little Bears lined up on either side of the path to see him off. They stared with big eyes, dabbing at the corners with handkerchiefs soaked in coolant, while they watched Wang with pitiable expressions that tugged painfully at his heart.

At that moment, he felt some reluctance to leave.

But curiosity about the outside world had taken over, despite knowing he might not be able to return once he left. He bid farewell to each Little Bear and then resolutely walked into the darkness.

The world outside seemed like an empty universe, but it was lonelier than the actual cosmos. After all, the universe had the Stars to twinkle for it, whereas this place only had the beacon.

A chill wind swept over Wang, the coldness of this place contrasting sharply with the Sweet Cabin he had left behind, making him yearn for that warm place once again.

The live streaming feature had also been passively shut down. Fang Cheng Studio seemed not to want anyone to reveal the ending, so as not to interfere with the final experience of the game.

Although his playmates were reluctant to see him go, he still walked into the darkness, heading toward the beacon.

The sounds of the past slowly faded, the warmly lit small door gradually receding in the distance. When Wang reached the first beacon, he heard a voice as serene as a lake beside his ear, “You can look back now.”

He turned around instinctively, to find that the small door behind him had shrunk to a mere point of light, with the memories of what lay behind it surfacing and intensifying his feeling of solitude.

“Welcome to this place, your will and determination have earned my respect. I forget to introduce myself, I am the Judge, an Iron Guard from the Iron Fortress. My position used to be neutral with mild tendencies, and now I’m in charge of guiding you, the Angel Envoys, to higher levels.”

“Iron Guard? Does this game’s universe also connect with that of the Heavenly Tao network?” Wang asked in surprise.

“Yes.”

“Fang Cheng Studio is really working on a metaverse! What great ambition.”

“Hmm… You could say that. Seeing the Sweet Cabin fading away, what are your thoughts? I’m very curious about your feelings.”

Wang gazed at the distant point of light for a moment and then said, “I feel a bit of attachment, and a bit of reluctance too.”

“You can go back, the road is still there, you have a chance.”

“No need. I want to know what’s beyond this.”@@novelbin@@

“A fine curiosity you have, and although I do not wish for you to leave, I respect your choice.”

The beacon by Wang’s side vanished, a new one appearing in the distance, guiding Wang to a place even further away.

As Wang reached the farther beacon, the light from the cabin had diminished to the size of a rice grain but still shone brightly in the darkness.

“You’ve actually made it this far,” the Judge’s voice resonated, “I’m a bit surprised. After all, in my opinion, you are someone who clings to the past and revels in comfort. I’m willing to give you another chance. Just turn back, and you can return immediately. How about it?”

Wang looked at the void in silence, feeling that the Judge, this NPC, was really good at messing with people’s emotions.

The darkness was too cold, the silence around him too profound, and the chilling air seemed to freeze the soul. The further he went, the more he missed the room he came from.

Wang believed that even if he returned, the big Teddy Bear would not mock his unfinished journey but would instead welcome him back warmly and continue to offer various indulgences.

But having come this far, Wang found his desire to reach the end of the road had surpassed his attachment to the cabin.

After one last look back at the cabin, Wang lifted his foot and continued forward.

The temperature dropped ever lower, the silence grew even more pronounced, and in the enveloping darkness, Wang felt as if he had lost track of time and simply walked in silence.

However, each time he reached a beacon, the Judge’s voice would sound, gently tempting Wang to turn back.

“There’s nothing interesting ahead, just an endless road. What’s that? You have friends who’ve already reached the end? How do you know they didn’t deceive you?”

“Tired of walking? Want to turn back for a rest? I think the Teddy Bears have probably already prepared drinks and warm bathwater.”

“Do you hear that? A little Teddy Bear is crying, it seems to have missed saying goodbye to you. It would surely be happy if you turned back now.”

Listening to the Judge’s voice, Wang cursed silently, thinking that this game was really torturous.

How much fun he had playing in the cabin, the more memories that were now evoked, the more he remembered, even the names of each Little Bear, and all those recollections became bullets, striking hard against his chest.

He had played quite a few meta-games that broke the fourth wall, but “Sweet Cabin” was the first virtual reality game. Its sensations were much stronger compared to other games, increasing the temptations that Wang needed to overcome.

Forcing himself to forget these things, Wang kept moving forward, slowly reaching one beacon after another and then continuing to the next.

Just when he was almost convinced that this journey had no end, he saw a desk appear next to a beacon.

A robot with a distinct non-human quality dressed in a black suit was sitting behind the desk, awaiting his arrival.
