Chapter 507: Chapter 298: Congratulations to You (Part 2)_1
“Who is that?”
“I don’t recognize him. Doesn’t look like anyone important.”
“Seems like he’s just a street vendor who sets up shop everywhere. What’s he doing here?”
“He couldn’t possibly be competing, could he?”
“If that’s true, then this is way too rigged.”
“Suddenly, I feel like even I could compete.”
The chatter was unceasing, making Wu Wei, who had rashly stepped forward, feel as though he had made a mistake.
The most people he had ever been involved with at once was when he was in line, the most scrutiny he faced was being late for elementary school, and the last time he was the subject of gossip was during a blind date.
Compared to now, however, those times were nothing.
The vast arena held a full million people, and the chatter from a million players was like gathering thunderclouds, seemingly ready to strike him down at any moment.
The gazes around him felt as though they had their own weight, pressing down on Wu Wei so that he couldn’t breathe. However, now that he had already stepped out, there was no turning back.
He walked steadfastly forward, and a Disciple from the Celestial Sect guarding the illusion blocked his path, asking coldly, “What do you want?”
“I’m… I’m a competitor…”
The Disciple’s gaze fell on Wu Wei, and after a while, the expression on his face softened surprisingly, “Oh, it’s you… Can you please show me your invitation?”
“Sure…”
The invitation Wu Wei presented made the surrounding players pause; the once unprepossessing Wu Wei suddenly seemed a lot more agreeable, with an indescribable air that made him appear rather distinguished.
After confirming the authenticity of the invitation, the Disciple stepped aside and allowed Wu Wei to walk into the illusion.
Upon entering, Wu Wei immediately smelled the impending scent of death.
It was a unique odor, a blend of fear, hunger, disease, and pain… a mixture of complex emotions that made Wu Wei envision death reaping everything here, leading all beings unavoidably towards their demise.
The Gourmet Alliance’s Qian Xiaohao and his two chefs were completely in disarray; the two head chefs had never seen anything like this before. The sophisticated gaming pods they were in actually backfired, the boundless pressure crushing them as they lay on the side, succumbing to despair.
Gong Gong and his two companions were pale, almost unable to act.
The situation in the fantasy was too real, and since they hadn’t possessed human bodies for long, they were experiencing many of these emotions for the first time. By now, they were dominated by a strange set of feelings.
Covering her face, Gong Gong wept, “Strange, why do I feel like crying when I see these children?”
“Me too,” Tai Yin said through tears, “I think there’s something wrong with my tear ducts.”
Military Governor looked at his trembling right hand, “The emotional fluctuation is significant. What is this feeling?”
Observing the bizarre trio, Wu Wei asked in astonishment, “What are you doing? Is this some new kind of act?”
“Don’t talk. We are experiencing a human emotion called sadness. It fills me with guilt and a desire to do something for others. I desperately want to find a chance to vent these emotions,” they explained.
handled everything with ease, amazing the watching audience.
“That’s impressive, using no timer but each batch of noodles is ready at the same time. This guy is seriously skilled,” the audience remarked.
“And he’s so confident, too—he seems to know exactly what people want to eat with just one glance. Of course, that’s also related to there being few dishes on the menu, but still, his judgment is impressive.”
“The braised meat was a good choice, and the ingredients were high-quality. Compared to other flashy recipes, I prefer this one. It feels like something I could also make in real life.”
“Yeah, I feel the same way. The pan-fried egg noodles he just made were brilliant. I used a PC, but I understood every step and feel like I could try making it myself tonight.”
“The rice porridge is the same; he even soaked the rice in cold water first.”
Watching Wu Wei’s actions, the players felt it was a pleasure to the eyes.
There were no bizarre moves, no special recipes, just solid fundamentals and motions streamlined to the extreme in pursuit of efficiency.
Dish after dish was prepared methodically, and the mood of the onlookers gradually softened. However, Wu Wei then felt his stamina was almost depleted and that he needed to rest for a bit.
But seeing the disaster victims gathering around, Wu Wei felt he could push through a little longer.
Just as he was about to continue, someone pulled him back.
Gong Gong stood to the side, her face streaked with tears, but she had her trademark smile on her face.
Pointing to herself, Gong Gong said with a proud smile, “Yo, young man, it’s not good to hog the limelight. How about big sis teaches you a trick or two? Or perhaps you could teach big sis?”
Before Wu Wei could respond, an exasperated voice sounded from the other side: “Gong Gong, what the hell are you doing?”
The Military Governor kicked Gong Gong aside and then said to Wu Wei, “What she means is, she wants to help.”
“Then she should just say so!”
“Don’t expect someone with a mind full of trash to speak properly. Alright, I can see you’re tired. You rest over there, and we’ll help out.”
“You’re not going to make things worse, are you?”
The Military Governor flicked her wrist, and with a flash of the knife in her hand, the bone in front of her cleanly split in two.
After tasting the marrow inside, the Military Governor licked the blood from the corner of her mouth and asked Wu Wei indifferently, “What did you say?”
“Thank you for your help.”
Knowing she had lost, Gong Gong gave up on the final competition entirely and began assisting Wu Wei in all aspects.
On one hand, she didn’t want to give the Gourmet Alliance any chance for a comeback. On the other hand, her senses told her she might be on the brink of death, and helping out might just give her a chance at survival.
The only person capable of crushing her with a single finger was one, but how had she offended him?
Fearing to confirm her suspicions about what she had done, Gong Gong hastened her pace in the hope that her performance might earn her a reprieve.
With the addition of Gong Gong and others, the speed of cooking increased once again.
The milk for the children was now in supply, and the old people’s desired porridge could be served in different varieties. The diversity of food surprised the disaster victims who had come upon hearing the news. Some of them even knelt on the spot, whispering Wu Wei’s name gratefully, thanking him for his mercy.
No, it should be to the new Food God!
What do you think?
