Chapter 898: Chapter 898 The One He Loves is Back (Part 12)_1

Despite Madeleine’s parents being angry about their daughter divorcing Howard in silence and then going abroad, the sight of her returning safe and sound after three and a half years made even the greatest anger seem irrelevant.

After lunch, Madeleine chatted with her mom in the small living room. While she could act spoiled and complain about her tough life in Oceania to Rusell and Edward, in front of her mom, she always spoke of things that made her happy.

Towards the end of their conversation, Madeleine’s mom still touched on the issue that had been on her mind all these years, “Madeleine, why did you divorce Howard?”

The topic of her divorce from Howard was something she was reluctant to think about or confront.

Yet Madeleine knew that coming home meant she would inevitably face this question, and even though her heart shrunk at her mom’s sudden inquiry, she managed to smile faintly and with a calm tone, said, “Mom, you know that my affair with Howard all along was one-sided. Uncle Coleman forced Howard to marry me out of sympathy for me, but love can’t be forced. Howard didn’t love me and the marriage was meaningless, it made no sense to drag it on, so we divorced.”

Listening to Madeleine’s nonchalant words, although her mother felt pained, she couldn’t blame Howard because, after all, everyone had forced that marriage upon him.

But since Madeleine was her child, whom she had watched grow up, she naturally knew what Madeleine had been keeping inside her heart. She couldn’t help feeling compassion and asked, “Silly child, did you suffer for a long time in Oceania?”

To this day, she was still upset.

But she had already caused her mother enough heartache by impulsively hiding away in Oceania for three and a half years to heal her wounds. She couldn’t possibly add to her mom’s worries now, so Madeleine shook her head and said, “No, I didn’t suffer. I thought it had to be Howard, but later I realized it was just my own obsession.”

Her mother felt slightly relieved at these words, yet she couldn’t help but sigh and say, “Madeleine, look, you’ll be thirty before long, and you’re not getting any younger. If you truly don’t care for Howard anymore, find yourself a dependable man and plan your future properly.”

After pausing, her mother added, “No matter how rich a woman is, she needs her own family, a child. That’s what you can rely on, not just materially, but also for emotional support.”

Ever since divorcing Howard, Madeleine had never thought about remarrying, yet as a child, there are some thoughts you dare not share with your parents, to spare them endless worries. As a child, you always want to ease your parents’ minds, so Madeleine nodded and replied, “Hmm, I understand, I’ll keep an eye out.”

Hearing Madeleine’s response, her mother completely set her mind at ease, “That’s good. Mom will also look out for you. Blind dates aren’t anything to be ashamed of these days. You meet and if it’s suitable, you get to know each other; if not, you can just be friends.”

“Hmm, I understand,” Madeleine replied indifferently.

Just as her mother was about to pull Madeleine into further conversation, suddenly they heard a servant’s voice from outside, “Mr. Coleman, why have you been standing here for so long without coming in?”
