Chapter 401 - 373: Shopping Together
"Thanks, Auntie," Lin Tian nodded, his face always maintaining a smile, looking every bit the obedient child.
Mu Wanqing was extremely beautiful, and since she took great care of her skin, one wouldn't guess she was Shen Mengyi's mother. At first glance, Lin Tian almost couldn't tell, and would have thought they were sisters.
Shen Mengyi's looks clearly took after her, and glancing at Shen Zhe beside her, Lin Tian inwardly rolled his eyes. If Shen Mengyi and Shen Yiran had looked like him, it really would have been a disaster. With that chilly demeanor of his, as if everyone owed him money, Lin Tian couldn't help but internally criticize.
"Well, Xiao Lin, since it's your first time in Tianchuan City, if you want to go out and have fun, I can have the butler accompany you. You don't need to be polite with us about this," Shen Zhe spoke up at this point.
The moment he spoke, it was clear he meant Lin Tian shouldn't get too close to Shen Mengyi, suggesting that if he wanted to go out, they would arrange someone else to accompany him.
"Dad, what are you talking about? Lin Tian is my friend. If he wants to go out, of course, I'll accompany him," Shen Mengyi couldn't help but interject, looking at her father.
"What do you know? Don't you realize it's improper for a girl to get too close to men?" Shen Zhe, upon hearing Shen Mengyi's disagreement, glared at her with eyes as wide as a bull's.
"Lin Tian and I are just ordinary friends. Why do you care what others say?" Shen Mengyi challenged, staring back defiantly.
"..." Watching the two of them suddenly staring each other down, Lin Tian felt somewhat speechless. This seemed to be a quarrel over him, right? But wasn't this reason a bit too trivial?
"Hehe... it's okay, Uncle is right. I can ask Xiaohui to go out with me," Lin Tian said, trying to smooth things over as he looked at them both.
"Alright, alright... can't you just shut up? Mengyi just got home and you're already looking for a fight, are you doing this on purpose?" Mu Wanqing also stepped in at this point. She gave Shen Zhe a stern look, then took Shen Mengyi's hand and said, "Mengyi, you haven't been home for so long, we should have a good talk tonight." Shen Zhe was apparently quite afraid of Mu Wanqing, so after she spoke up, he didn't continue and turned to go back to his room.
Lin Tian also returned to his room, feeling a bit tired after playing all night. After taking a bath, he sent a few text messages to He Qianqian and Bu Mengting before going to sleep.
As for Shen Zhe's attitude towards him, he didn't take it to heart at all. Even if he wanted to care, what could he do? Shen Zhe was Shen Mengyi's father, after all. He surely couldn't just kill him, could he?
The next day.
Just as Lin Tian got out of bed, he saw Shen Xiaohui sitting in the living room. When Shen Xiaohui saw Lin Tian walking out from his room, he immediately called out, "Brother-in-law, you're awake?"
"..." Hearing Shen Xiaohui call him brother-in-law, the last bit of sleepiness instantly vanished from Lin Tian. He looked around and sighed in relief when he noticed that Shen Zhe was not there.
Considering Shen Zhe's attitude, had he heard Shen Xiaohui call him brother-in-law, who knows what the consequences would be. It would surely be unlucky for Shen Xiaohui, but that was not Lin Tian's main concern.
Looking at Shen Xiaohui's excited expression, Lin Tian said with a dumbfounded face, "What are you doing here?"
"Waiting for you, brother-in-law," said Shen Xiaohui cheerfully.
"Waiting for me?" Lin Tian was puzzled. "Why are you waiting for me?"
"Didn't you say yesterday that you wanted me to take you out shopping, brother-in-law?" Shen Xiaohui said eagerly. "You haven't forgotten, have you?"
"..." Hearing him say this, Lin Tian remembered that he indeed had said that, but Shen Xiaohui hadn't been there at the time, had he? He was just joking; how did it become serious?
Even if he really did want to go shopping, did he need you to lead the way? And even if he did need someone to guide him, it wouldn't be you, right? Please, think for a moment, two grown men going shopping side by side, isn't that odd?
"Who told you?" Lin Tian asked, looking at him.
"My great-uncle," Shen Xiaohui said.
"Damn, this old geezer is doing this on purpose to disgust me, isn't he?" Lin Tian cursed inwardly upon hearing this, then smiled at Shen Xiaohui and said, "You know, I don't feel like going shopping today. I think you don't need to wait for me, just go out and have fun on your own."
"No way, I must follow you," Shen Xiaohui insisted with determination.
"Why?" Lin Tian covered his face in agony. "You're a guy, and so am I. Don't you realize how inconvenient that is?"
"My great-uncle gave me a bank card, telling me that as long as I follow you these days, the money inside is mine," Shen Xiaohui admitted frankly.
Lin Tian's face darkened at this. Damn, is that really necessary? Actually spending money to hire a tag-along just to keep me from getting too close to Shen Mengyi.
"How much is in it?" Lin Tian asked.
"A million," Shen Xiaohui replied.
"Not bad, your great-uncle is really willing to spend the money," Lin Tian said with a hint of mockery. Then he looked at Shen Xiaohui. "How about we split the money equally?"
"Why should I? This is what my great-uncle gave to me." Shen Xiaohui became smart all of a sudden, eyeing Lin Tian with wariness as he spoke.
"Heh... And you're asking me 'why'?" Lin Tian looked at him threateningly. "Do you want the story about you watching Island Country action movies to get out?"
"How can you be so..." Shen Xiaohui stammered as Lin Tian threatened him, pointing accusingly with a look of aggrievement. "Fine, you call the shots, we'll split it."
"That's more like it. It's only when we have money can we go out and have fun," Lin Tian said with a smile. Then, after changing his clothes, he left with Shen Xiaohui.
Shopping with another man was a first for Lin Tian, but he found it rather enjoyable, because he could order Shen Xiaohui around at will—whatever he said he wanted to eat, Shen Xiaohui had to go and buy it for him.
"Ah, I'm a bit thirsty," Lin Tian said.
"Brother-in-law, I'll go get you some water right now," Shen Xiaohui said.
"That barbecue looks good," Lin Tian noted.
"Brother-in-law, I'll go get it for you," Shen Xiaohui offered.
"That..." Lin Tian began.
"Brother-in-law, I..." Shen Xiaohui started.
"..."
After half a day had passed, Shen Xiaohui felt as tired as a dog. Finally entering a coffee shop, he immediately slumped onto the table. He was quite dissatisfied with his great-uncle in his heart, thinking that being paid a million to do such exhausting work was a total loss.
Sipping his coffee leisurely, Lin Tian was oblivious to Shen Xiaohui's thoughts. Glancing at the time, he realized it was almost six in the afternoon—the beginning of nightlife. He put down his coffee and asked Shen Xiaohui, "What's the most famous leisure club in Tianchuan City?"
"Why are you asking about that, brother-in-law?" Shen Xiaohui eyed Lin Tian warily. "You're not thinking of going, are you? I won't go, I'd rather die than go."
What do you think?
