Chapter 107 - Gem's Misunderstanding
"[Water Membrane, Clear Shield]." I uttered the spell name in one breath.
In this instant, a translucent thin wall appeared, dividing the room in two. The glass struck the water membrane wall and slid down, falling to the floor.
"What are you doing?!" Alabarta yelled. I looked over. It seemed he was trying to block the flying shards of glass with his arm outstretched.
Behind the water membrane wall, Gem was shaking his shoulders. "See? This is the truth about this woman. It's all because of the power of national treasure-level magical tools."
After Gem said this, I could feel Aldo’s and Kathy’s eyes turning towards me.
Alabarta frowned and glared at Gem. "That's not necessarily the case. Of course, one or two spells might be possible with an ancient magical tool. However, as far as I know, Aoi-dono has used ten or more advanced spells. Among them is healing magic. To make that possible, she would need more than ten magical tools…"
Hearing Alabarta express his anger at the unfounded words, Gem chuckled. "You're naive, Alabarta… Remember what she said? She said something absurd about going around to different countries and raising their magical standards. But that’s all a lie. She must be planning to infiltrate the royal families of various countries and steal their magical tools!"
Like a famous detective finally catching the culprit, Gem accused me of being a thief. It was extremely rude, but surprisingly, his reasoning seemed sound.
However, since I hadn’t stolen any treasures from any royal families, I honestly denied it. “No, I…”
The moment I spoke to deny it, Shenley, who had been silent until now, stepped forward and shouted, "That's not true! Aoi-sensei is not a thief!"
Shenley loudly contradicted Marquis Gem. Aldo and Kathy were stunned.
Gem saw Shenley's face for the first time. "… What? Little girl, do you know who I am? I am Marquis Gem Westmeath, vice-captain of the Imperial Court Magicians and director of the Holy City Magic Society. What did you say to me?"
His voice was so deep that it felt like a threat. Even Alabarta was speechless and about to reach for his sword.
However, Shenley didn’t back down even an inch and glared back as she desperately tried to clear my name. "Aoi-sensei isn’t a thief! I learned the lightning magic thanks to her lessons…"
Gem looked at her with a scornful look and clicked his tongue. "Oh, so you're Rosentiel’s daughter… I was planning to take you as revenge on this woman, but it seems you’re even more stupid than I imagined. Besides, a child like you, who barely knows how to speak, says she knows lightning magic? Don't be ridiculous! It’s not just original magic. It's lightning magic, a mythical magic that doesn't exist…!"
Gem started accusing even Shenley of being a liar. I got so irritated that I wanted to yell at him and deactivated the water membrane wall.
But before I could speak, Shenley put both her hands forward and opened her mouth.
She started chanting something. Everyone in the room reflexively started to move, but when I realized what she was chanting, I raised my hand to stop everyone.
Gem also seemed to realize what she was chanting and froze with his eyes wide open. "Impossible, that…"
He instantly sobered up. Seeing his expression, I silently marveled at his level as a magician. Just by listening to the content of the chant, he seemed to intuitively understand what kind of magic was being cast. It seemed the title of imperial court magician wasn’t just for show.
Meanwhile, Shenley completed her spell. "[Lightning Ball]!"@@novelbin@@
After speaking the spell name, she shaped her magical power. A water sphere appeared and was given wind. It moved as if a high-speed current of water was swirling inside the water sphere, and gradually, static electricity began to discharge outside with a crackling sound.
It took about thirty seconds. By the time everyone else reacted, a lightning ball that was so bright it was dazzling had formed in front of Shenley’s extended hand.
"Impressive." I nodded, feeling satisfied, and pointed my finger. "[Lightning Rod]."
The moment I cast the spell, a metal rod appeared about halfway between Shenley and Gem, drawing the lightning ball Shenley had created.
It exploded with a deafening roar and was absorbed by the metal rod.
"I-impossible… A child casting such a spell…" Gem’s astonished voice echoed in the silent room.
Ignoring him, I placed my hand on Shenley’s shoulder and said cheerfully, “That was a great spell. Since we’re here, I’ll show you the ultimate form of lightning magic, [Thunder God Strike, Thor].”
I moved to the wall, opened the window, and looked outside to see if there were any tall buildings or mountains that might be damaged.
After confirming there was no problem and turning back to the room, I saw everyone looking at me with serious faces.
“Well then, first, [Llightning Ball]…” I held my hands out and created two lightning balls.
Then I threw one of them out the window first. “Here we go… [Thunder God Strike, Thor].”
The moment I spoke, the remaining lightning ball in my hand became a massive beam of light, engulfing the lightning ball I had thrown, and was released. Along with an ear-splitting roar, the windows and the wall disappeared, and a torrent of light two meters in diameter tore through the sky.
Gem fell out of his chair upon seeing the spell piercing a giant hole in the distant clouds.
“This is one of my most powerful magic spells. The advantage of this spell is that it can take down most large dragons with a single hit. However, it's not suitable for dealing with magical beasts that burrow into the ground or small, fast-moving magical beasts.”
I gave a brief explanation, but no one reacted, even with a word or movement.
