Transmigrated as the fake young master, I'll beat up the scumbags and b*tches

Vol. 1 - Chapter 227 - Excuse

Han ShuYi hadn't appeared for a long time, which made HuMing a little concerned. He had originally assumed that with Han ShuYi's recklessness, he'd have been caught quickly. But to his surprise, Han ShuYi had remained elusive for so long.

Narrowing his eyes, HuMing pondered deeply before deciding to personally track down Han ShuYi's whereabouts.

However, today he had plans to visit the children at the orphanage.@@novelbin@@

He had prepared plenty of gifts for the kids, knowing this would likely be the last time he'd see them in a while.

If all went as expected, he'd soon leave this place.

The clues he needed to uncover his origins wouldn’t be found here, and chasing them would require him to move on.

As for the children, HuMing would only be able to keep in touch with them through occasional phone calls in the future.

Regarding the Han family, he had resolved not to drag them into this matter.

The schemes of the people behind the scenes ran too deep. If the Han family continued to be involved, their lives might descend into chaos.

HuMing was unwilling to see such an outcome.

Truthfully, the Han family's current level of involvement had already exceeded his expectations.

He wasn’t without feelings—he was deeply grateful for the trust the Han family had shown him.

After all, as an outsider with no blood ties, it was remarkable that they had chosen to stand by him, even against their own son. That was more than he could have ever asked for.

Carrying the gifts he had prepared, HuMing headed toward the orphanage.

The end-of-school rush was always bustling.

The streets were filled with traffic, honking horns breaking the air as the sweltering weather added to the general impatience.

Among the lively crowd of children, YouCheng stood at the entrance, seemingly waiting for something.

Soon, a girl handed him a ranking sheet and asked curiously, “Here you go, YouCheng. This is the ranking sheet you wanted. But why do you need it?”

She looked at him with genuine curiosity, puzzled by his unusual request.

YouCheng was typically quiet at school, rarely interacting with others.

Ever since the incident where YouCheng was bullied outside the school came to light, his classmates’ attitudes toward him had shifted significantly.

Still, it was the first time she’d heard of someone asking for a ranking sheet.

“To show someone.”

YouCheng tucked the sheet into his pocket without further explanation. Before the girl could press for more details, he turned and dashed off.

“So eager... must be someone really important he’s meeting.”

Unbothered by others’ opinions, YouCheng ran toward the school gate, his thoughts filled with the image of HuMing at the orphanage.

This time, he could meet Brother HuMing openly, and the thought filled him with excitement.

The blaring horns of passing vehicles didn’t dampen his mood.

Taking his usual shortcut through an alley, he chose the quickest route home.

But after only a short distance, a sense of unease crept in.

Despite the heat, the alley felt oddly oppressive, like something or someone was watching him from the shadows.

Although he had occasionally felt this before, this time, the feeling carried an edge of danger.

Lowering his head, he gripped his backpack tightly and quickened his pace.

But before he could exit the alley, a wooden stick came swinging out of nowhere, striking him hard on the head.

Caught off guard, YouCheng staggered, feeling a warm liquid trickling from his forehead as pain shot through him like fire.

Fear gripped him as he saw a figure emerge—a figure that felt eerily familiar, as though he had seen them somewhere before.

“Catching you sure wasn’t easy. Unlike the others, you are the only one going to and from alone. And to think someone’s even protecting you. Looks like HuMing really has taken a liking to you,” the figure sneered, their voice dripping with mockery.

Dazed and powerless, YouCheng could only watch as the figure seized him.

His hand instinctively slipped into his pocket, crumpling the ranking sheet and dropping it unnoticed onto the ground.

The figure failed to notice the discarded paper.

At the orphanage, HuMing was playing with the children.

As expected, the kids were overjoyed to see him, eagerly surrounding him and clutching their gifts.

Instead of leaving after receiving their presents, they sat around him, listening intently to the stories of what he had been through during his absence.

The elderly couple who ran the orphanage stood quietly to the side, watching the scene with expressions of deep satisfaction.

When they first heard the news of HuMing’s supposed death, they had been devastated.

How could such a good child meet such an untimely end? The old director had even been hospitalized due to the emotional strain.

Now, seeing HuMing alive and hearing about his recent endeavors, they were simply relieved.

It was a blessing that HuMing had managed to orchestrate everything himself.

It was a blessing that he was still alive.

Standing beside the elderly couple, Kang Xin kept her eyes on HuMing.

She could sense that he was genuinely happy among the children. Perhaps he truly cherished this kind of atmosphere.

But she also understood that HuMing wouldn’t stay here for long. This visit might very well be his way of saying goodbye to the children.

And what about her?

Kang Xin had asked herself this question before, and she already knew the answer—she wanted to stay by HuMing’s side.

She wanted to see if he was still the same Han HuMing she once knew.

That would take time to figure out.

Whether she was simply giving herself an excuse, she couldn’t say for sure.

Glancing at the clock on the wall, then at the door outside, she frowned slightly.

She had spoken to YouCheng about this yesterday.

Knowing his personality, even if he didn’t come home early, he should have arrived on time.

Yet now, half an hour had passed, and there was still no sign of him.

Feeling uneasy, Kang Xin stepped outside and dialed YouCheng’s homeroom teacher.

“Hello, teacher, is YouCheng still at school?”

“YouCheng? He left the classroom after asking a classmate to collect the ranking sheet,” the teacher replied, her brows furrowing. In her impression, YouCheng was never one to cause trouble. But judging by Kang Xin’s tone, it seemed he hadn’t returned home.

At that moment, a girl entered the teacher’s office—the same girl who had handed YouCheng the ranking sheet earlier.

“Mom, when are we going home?” the girl asked the teacher.

“Didn’t you just give the ranking sheet to YouCheng? Where is he?”

“He went home right after. I saw him leave!”
