Transmigrated as the fake young master, I'll beat up the scumbags and b*tches

Vol. 1 - Chapter 240 - Unbelievable

Participating in the Gu family's trial inherently carried risks, and HuMing understood that someone would inevitably make a move against him. Whether it was the person behind the scenes or not, he didn’t particularly care.

As long as he passed the trial, he would naturally find out who had taken his place for over ten years.

However, he had no intention of revealing everything just yet.

He still needed to figure out who was pulling the strings behind the Gu family.

The fact that they wanted him gone so badly likely meant they had their eyes on taking over the Gu family entirely.

But this time, he had returned under the identity of the old man's grandson. Hardly anyone knew that he had long been aware of his true connection to the Gu family.

Even the mastermind probably had no idea.

They likely wouldn’t have expected that he had already uncovered the truth about his relationship with the Han family. Perhaps, in this matter, they would slip up and expose themselves.

Looking at it now, the old man's decision to give him this identity was quite prescient.

No matter who was behind this, HuMing was determined to drag them out of the shadows. After all, if you dared to offend the abbot, you’d better not plan on running away.

Now—

All he had to do was wait until five in the afternoon. Then, he could leave this deserted island and officially join the Gu family.

At his waist hung a scroll—the proof he needed to pass the trial.

But before that, he had one more thing to take care of.

HuMing ventured alone into the jungle, carefully controlling his steps as he stealthily approached a certain cave.

Inside, a man lay fast asleep, surrounded by various tools. A sharp dagger rested within arm’s reach.

Without making a sound, HuMing walked up to him.

Then, he raised his foot and delivered a solid kick to the man’s head.

A muffled groan escaped, and the man slumped into unconsciousness.

When he woke up again, he was tied to a wooden frame on the beach.

It was clear that HuMing had built the structure himself. The man had no idea when he had been restrained.

The scorching sun beat down mercilessly, cracking his lips and leaving his head spinning.

“You’ve been on this island longer than I have, haven’t you?” HuMing sat in the shade of a tree, sipping from a coconut shell. His exposed upper body revealed lean, well-defined muscles. “Judging by the way you’ve been lurking around, you were planning to deal with me from the start. But we don’t even know each other—so why come after me?”

The man remained silent, unwilling to answer.

HuMing didn’t seem to care whether he responded or not. He leaned back against the tree, stretching his legs out in a relaxed manner.

“If you don’t want to talk, that’s fine. Just keep baking in the sun.” He glanced up at the sky lazily. “My trial ends this afternoon. By the time I leave, you’ll probably be dead from heatstroke. And even if you survive, the Gu family will investigate who’s behind you. You’re not worth much to me.”

With that, HuMing casually pulled out a broad banana leaf, lay down on it, and shut his eyes for a nap.

Panic crept into the man’s expression.

He had never expected to get caught!

His employer had instructed him to eliminate HuMing quietly. But for days, every time he tried to act, something went wrong—he lost track of HuMing at critical moments, or he simply couldn’t find an opportunity to strike.

It felt as though HuMing had been controlling the entire situation from the start.

Now that he had been captured, he finally realized—his movements had been under HuMing’s watch all along.

Even worse, HuMing didn’t seem to regard him as a threat at all. Otherwise, he would have been dealt with on the very first day.

“…I have information for you! But you have to let me go!”

“You’re in no position to negotiate.”

“It was the Zhou family! They sent me to kill you!”

“Zhou family?” HuMing raised an eyebrow but didn’t even open his eyes. “Never heard of them. Doesn’t matter to me.”

With that, he shifted slightly, getting more comfortable on the banana leaf, and promptly fell asleep.

The only sound left on the beach was the captured man’s desperate shouting.

Afternoon—

As the sky turned crimson, Gu WeiJun arrived on the island with a group of people.

The moment they stepped ashore, they were met with a baffling sight.

A man, bound to a makeshift cross, barely conscious under the blistering sun.

And nearby, HuMing lay peacefully beneath a tree, napping.

There should have been no one else on this island but HuMing.

So where did this extra person come from?

Gu WeiJun’s brows knitted together, his expression darkening.

He scanned the faces of his subordinates. Those responsible for overseeing the trial island shrank under his gaze, hurriedly lowering their heads, not daring to meet his eyes.

Ensuring the safety of Gu family members during the trial was their responsibility. Yet, an unknown enemy had infiltrated the island and attempted to harm HuMing. Their failure was glaring.

Gu WeiJun strode toward HuMing. As he passed the captured man, he noted his cracked lips and weakened state, evidently on the verge of collapse from dehydration.

But HuMing, completely unharmed, looked as if he had been lounging the entire time.

Seeing this, Gu WeiJun’s initial anxiety eased somewhat.

At the very least, HuMing hadn’t been hurt. And judging by the situation, he must have subdued the man with ease—otherwise, he wouldn’t be sleeping so carefreely.

Stopping beside him, Gu WeiJun called out, “HuMing?”

HuMing’s eyes fluttered open. He turned his head lazily. “Hm? Is it five already?”

“The trial is over. Are you alright?”

Gu WeiJun’s first concern was HuMing’s safety. To him, the presence of an intruder was his own oversight. Even if HuMing had failed the trial, it wouldn’t have mattered—just surviving an assassination attempt proved his capability.

“I’m fine.” HuMing sat up and casually handed over the scroll. “This is my proof. I passed, right?”

Gu WeiJun took the scroll, a flicker of surprise flashing in his eyes.

Meanwhile, the restrained man was being untied and taken away.

HuMing glanced at him and added, “He said the Zhou family was behind this. I don’t know who they are, but it’s clear they’re targeting Gu family heirs.”

“The Zhou family…” Gu WeiJun’s expression darkened. “They were one of the factions that supported my uncle during the Gu family’s internal conflict. I’ll investigate and make sure you get an answer.”

“Alright. Can we leave now?” HuMing stretched, looking refreshed. “I’ve been here for days—so boring.”

Gu WeiJun studied the scroll in his hand, then hesitated before asking, “When did you get this?”

“First day. Followed the clues straight to the cave—it was just sitting there.”

Gu WeiJun’s mouth fell slightly open.

For a moment, he didn’t know what to say.

One thought crossed his mind—

The Gu family might have just produced a terrifying new force.
