Vol. 1 - Chapter 246 - Gu YunZhou
The Gu family acted swiftly. HuMing hadn't expected that as soon as he returned home, Gu YunQin would already be confined.
Aside from attending school, she was confined to her room and even had her phone confiscated.
For students accustomed to modern life, losing a phone was like losing half their life. But for those who enjoyed reading, it wasn’t much of a problem.
However, no matter how HuMing looked at it, Gu YunQin didn’t seem like the type who enjoyed reading.
Not that he was overly concerned about her. He had far more important things to take care of.
His room was just as Mo QingXia had said—neatly arranged. It was spacious, even larger than the apartment he had previously rented.
Every kind of electronic device was available, nothing was missing.
HuMing had sincerely thanked Mo QingXia for this, but she had simply told him that she hoped he could become true brothers with the Gu family’s children. Even Gu YunQin, she said, had her endearing qualities.
HuMing didn’t say much in response—just nodded.
If Mo QingXia knew that he was actually her biological son, how would she react then?
Along the way, HuMing had seen too many different kinds of parents. He just hoped that the original host’s parents weren’t the type who indulged their children mindlessly.
"Madam, you should go rest. I’ll take care of unpacking myself."
"Alright, then I’ll leave you to it. I’ll go have dinner preparations arranged."
With that, Mo QingXia turned and left.
Soon, the Gu family’s servants learned that another young master had arrived.
And his identity left them puzzled.
They had never heard that the Gu family had a second old master. But apparently, there had been one—only he was no longer alive, leaving behind only this boy named HuMing.
Everyone was extra cautious around him, afraid of accidentally offending him.
But what truly eased their concerns was a particular incident.
A servant, feeling unwell, accidentally bumped into HuMing. Fearing reprimand, they braced for trouble, but instead, HuMing simply told them to go rest and not overwork themselves.
Such a simple act quickly spread among the servants.
Only then did they realize—this newly arrived young master didn’t seem unreasonable at all.
Compared to the ordeal HuMing had faced with the Han family, this was practically a dream start.
Gu WeiJun arranged for HuMing and Kang Xin to attend a prestigious school in the capital—the same school as Gu ZhaoChuan and the others.
With finals approaching, the sudden arrival of new transfer students was surprising, but since it was the Gu family, no one found it too shocking.
HuMing had also inquired about Ye QiuXue’s school in advance—turns out, it wasn’t the same as his.
However, the two schools had been long-standing rivals, famous across the capital.
"Why do you ask?" Ye QiuXue questioned over the phone, holding it to her ear with one hand while marking notes with the other.
"No reason. Just wondering when I should visit you in the capital. But with finals coming up, you probably need to focus on studying, right?"
Ye QiuXue’s pen suddenly stopped. She lifted her gaze to the window, narrowing her eyes slightly.
"Not really... I’ve already finished learning this semester’s material ahead of time. Taking a day or two off won’t make much of a difference."
"That’s not good. What if it affects your grades? Aren’t you aiming for a scholarship?"
"It’s not that serious! I’m confident I’ll get the scholarship!"
Annoyed, Ye QiuXue felt that HuMing was deliberately provoking her. She had practically invited him already—did he really need her to spell it out?
"Is that so..."
HuMing fell silent on the other end. Meanwhile, Ye QiuXue seemed unable to hold back anymore.
"Just come already, HuMing! I’ll treat you to dinner in the capital! I mean it!"
"In that case, I won’t refuse. See you tomorrow!"
Before Ye QiuXue could respond, HuMing hung up, leaving her listening to the beeping tone.
A moment later, she finally processed what had happened—HuMing had clearly planned this from the start!
"Ugh! That guy!" she muttered, half laughing.
On the other end, HuMing set down his phone, feeling quite pleased with himself.
It had been a while since he last saw Ye QiuXue. He did miss studying with her, even if the knowledge itself didn’t do much for him.
Knock, knock.
A knock came at the door. HuMing got up to open it, only to find Gu YunZhou standing outside.
HuMing was still unsure about this cousin—no, more accurately, he had no idea what the boy wanted.
"Cousin, I assume calling you that is fine?"
The young man in front of him spoke politely, completely different from his arrogant and unruly sister. He seemed... much more amicable.
"YunZhou, right? So, what brings you here so late?"
"Brother ZhaoChuan is participating in a club competition tomorrow, so I’ll be showing you around the school instead. Also, Uncle has arranged for you to be in my class, so from tomorrow on, we’ll be classmates."
Gu YunZhou nodded seriously, as if he considered this an important task.
HuMing found it puzzling. Narrowing his eyes, he studied Gu YunZhou before asking—
"You’re not mad about what I did to your sister?"
"You mean YunQin? She was in the wrong to begin with, and I did try to talk her out of it. But she didn’t mean any harm—she’s just a bit childish."
HuMing scrutinized Gu YunZhou. This kid seemed... rigid.
Even if it was his own sister who had done something wrong, he still viewed it as a mistake, no excuses.
A stark contrast to his sister’s personality.
"Alright, YunZhou. I’ll leave tomorrow’s tour to you, then."
"Oh, by the way, cousin—do you have any friends in the capital?"
"What are you asking that for?"
HuMing’s expression darkened instantly, his previous friendly demeanor vanishing.
Sensing his reaction, Gu YunZhou quickly waved his hands, explaining,
"Don’t get me wrong, cousin! I was just thinking—if you want to meet up with friends in the capital, I can recommend some good spots. The Gu family owns several restaurants and entertainment venues. I could make arrangements if needed."
HuMing listened but didn’t lower his guard.
This cousin of his... was a little too enthusiastic.
What do you think?
