Transmigrated as the fake young master, I'll beat up the scumbags and b*tches

Vol. 1 - Chapter 279 - Vigilance

After dinner, HuMing didn’t immediately return to his room. Instead, he was stopped by Gu WeiJun, who clearly wanted to talk—likely about the Bai family.

It was obvious that Gu WeiYi had already told him what happened last night.

“HuMing, I understand what you said to WeiYi. But the reality is, the Gu family and the Bai family are in a partnership right now. In many ways, we need to prioritize the Bai family’s interests. As for the Xia family... I’ve been considering something. Maybe the people targeting them aren’t actually from Blizzard.”

“Why do you think that?” HuMing asked, puzzled—not so much by the logic, but by Gu WeiJun’s certainty that Bai XingQi wouldn’t be involved in targeting the Xia family.

“You’ve never met Bai XingQi, so you don’t know what she’s like. On the surface, she’s normal enough. But WeiYi probably already told you about her and the Bai family. The truth is, she’s not acting against the Xia family just because they might threaten the Bai family’s position. Her hatred for the Bai family… I know it well. If it weren’t for her mother, the Bai family might have already been wiped from JingDu.”

There were things Gu WeiJun couldn’t say outright, but he figured this much would be enough for HuMing to start connecting the dots.

HuMing rubbed his chin, deep in thought.

He didn’t think Gu WeiJun would lie to him, which meant this explanation was probably true. But on the other hand, he didn’t think Xia GaoWu was lying either.

When someone speaks of a life-or-death threat, there’s usually a reason.

According to Xia GaoWu, the Xia family was facing something eerily similar to what the Gu family had once endured. And then, there was something else—something HuMing found himself recalling clearly:

When someone from Blizzard had attacked him, Bai XingQi had denied having any part in it.

It seemed unrelated at first glance, but the name Blizzard kept surfacing like a recurring motif in a sinister song.

If there could be traitors within both the Gu and Xia families… then why not within Blizzard itself?

Now that things had developed to this point, HuMing felt more and more that his theory might hold water.

Blizzard was Bai XingQi’s power base—an organization that every family in JingDu treated with both awe and caution. It was viewed as neutral, independent.

Officially, it was under the Bai family’s banner. But anyone with eyes could see who truly ran the show now.

No one dared move against her yet, simply because she hadn’t done anything too outrageous.

But what if, at this critical juncture, someone within Blizzard really had acted on their own?

Suppose Xia GaoWu was killed by a member of ‘Blizzard,’ and Bai XingQi adamantly denied it—whether out of ignorance or protection. That alone would be enough to trigger panic in JingDu. Who would willingly live with a sword dangling over their head?

At that point, regardless of whether Bai XingQi was truly behind it, the blame would fall on her shoulders.

And the likely outcome? She’d be forced to step down—or she’d die. Someone else would take over ‘Blizzard,’ or the whole organization would crumble. Either way, the Bai family would be swallowed up by opportunists, and chaos would erupt across the city.

And the Gu family, as Bai’s current ally, would be dragged into the mess too.

HuMing took a deep breath. The threads of this whole situation were impossibly tangled. Just sorting it out this far was already a mental strain.

He looked up at Gu WeiJun and said seriously:

“Uncle, I suggest you tell Bai XingQi to launch a full investigation into ‘Blizzard.’ See if there’s a mole hiding in their ranks.”

“You think someone did this on purpose?”

“Maybe Blizzard is standing in the way of someone’s plans. Besides—do you really think no one was pulling strings behind the Gu family’s internal chaos back then?”

HuMing’s words made Gu WeiJun freeze.

He hadn’t expected HuMing to bring up the Gu family’s internal strife—or to ask whether someone had deliberately incited those elders into a power struggle.

And it was true: in the end, none of them had dared speak openly about it. Some uncles who might’ve known more had even died under mysterious circumstances.

Gu WeiJun was still chasing those threads, but whoever was behind it hadn’t left the slightest trace.

Yet HuMing had said it aloud, just like that.

Glancing around to ensure they were alone, Gu WeiJun lowered his voice.

“HuMing, don’t tell anyone else about this. I’ve been investigating it quietly for a long time. Not even WeiYi knows. What’s behind it might be something massive—and if so, it’s best we keep it under wraps.”

“Why haven’t you told Second Uncle?” HuMing asked.

Gu WeiJun just shook his head.

“WeiYi already carries a lot. He manages most of the Gu family’s affairs, even reviews a ton of company processes himself. If he knew there was something more to the Gu family’s past, he’d spread himself even thinner trying to get to the bottom of it. As his older brother, I don’t want him to shoulder that weight. He’s got a wife to care for too. So I’ll handle this on my own.”

He hadn’t expected HuMing to think so far ahead. But now that things had reached this point, he had no choice but to bring HuMing in on the secret—and trust him to stay silent.

At the same time, his admiration for the young man only deepened.

Compared to others like ZhaoChuan or YunZhou, HuMing’s thinking ran far deeper. They wouldn’t have considered any of this.

“As for what you said about the Bai family, I still stand by my belief—Bai XingQi wouldn’t move against the Xia family. But your point about a mole in Blizzard? That’s valid. Otherwise, there’s no real way to explain your attack.”

He took HuMing’s words to heart. Then, a moment later, his serious expression softened into a smile.

He looked at HuMing warmly and said, “Your birthday’s coming up next week, isn’t it? Anything special you want? Or are you hoping for a surprise?”

The question caught HuMing off guard.

He’d completely forgotten the original HuMing’s birthday was just around the corner.

He’d been here for so long now, but he hadn’t celebrated even a single proper birthday as himself. Not that he needed something like that to feel fulfilled.

He shook his head. “Doesn’t matter. It’s not that important.”

“How can you say that? That’s the day you were born—your first day in this world. To your parents, you were the symbol of their love.”

He gave HuMing’s shoulder a light pat.

HuMing and Gu ZhaoChuan had the same birthday. That was a bond in itself.

Even if HuMing didn’t care much for the occasion, as part of the Gu family, he deserved the same treatment.

“I’d bet your Aunt has already started preparing a gift for you. You’d better look forward to it!”
