Chapter 97: Path of Annihilation—Transcending Madness
"Where is your partner?" Nick asked Khaic, a wild grin forming on his face.
Khaic was silent against this question, feeling no obligation to answer the ant. Instead, he took 1 look around the town and nodded his head in approval. This level of destruction was far more than just acceptable.
It was just as the Queen had been told—once the upstart Progenitor was mentally destroyed, they would have the greatest weapon of mass destruction to ever exist.
Watching the indomitable figure approach him silently, Nick took in his physical attributes. The Bloodknight wore heavy armor. From head to toe, he was covered in some thick, ethereal armor that definitely wasn't homemade. In between the joints, Nick took note of all of these chinks.
Across his back was a huge broadsword, at least 10 feet in length. Khaic himself was unfathomably tall, as the fist laying at his side fell above Nick's head. In order to meet his gaze, Nick had to look up quite far, almost feeling as if he was studying clouds.
Yet still, Nick felt no authority from the leader of these demons.
Sending his aura into the [Fang of Finality], Nick then leaped forward as he slashed at Khaic's joints.
Inwardly, Khaic was overjoyed as he pulled his own blade off his back and threw it down to meet Nick's. They collided for just a second as equals before Nick fell from the overwhelming force behind Khaic's strike.
Unable to move from that precarious position, Nick was forced to unequip his Fang, roll to dodge and then equip it all in one motion. Khaic easily followed this movement but allowed it to occur as he was interested to see what Nick could do.
Understanding that Khaic's absurd height would make it nigh impossible to strike him head-on, Nick jumped back to reassess the situation and find another method of attack.
The bloodknight was overbearingly strong and yet was still relatively quick. Even after his immense boost in power, it was clear to Khaic who the strongest was.
And it made sense, after all. A few party tricks were never going to be enough to overcome a being who has inflicted pain and terror for millennia. Still, the young Progenitor did show some promise.
"Progenitor, I am overjoyed by the fruits of today. To see you become this powerful so quickly... has made me feel extra merciful."
Khaic's icy voice cut through Nick with the grace of a butter knife, making sure each word twisted in his soul. Smiling behind his dark helm, Khaic knew that Nick understood what he had meant.
Juliana, Amelia, that traitorous bitch elf... they would all be the subjects of his undying mercy. Any Valkyrie without a master would become an unstoppable storm.
With their grief raining down upon the 4 kingdoms, it was certain nothing and no one would survive. Every defense to the Tower of Eternity would be shattered for his Queen's master. Then once that stupid tower fell, killing every mortal in the land, his species would finally be able to escape Oblivion and its horrors.
Even the shadows Khaic cast flew with glee as he resumed his offensive. Sparks flew across the battlefield as their weapons collided. With each strike, Khaic could feel the young Progenitor weaken.
It was starting to get to the point where the match was no longer fun. I'm fact, he could barely see any of that aura of Destruction around Nick. Sharpening his senses for just a moment, Khaic could tell that it wasn't because he was hiding his energy.
No, he had simply lost it. The more the battle continued, the more he lost his aura of Destruction.
It was a position completely unbefitting of someone he was supposed to call the [King of the Cosmos]. This helpless victim before him wasn't any more special than the usual ant he'd crush underneath his feet.
Enraged, Khaic screamed, "It seems I overestimated your strength, then! I'll be sure to relay that information to Juliana as I peel the skin from her skull!"
His threat certainly seemed to create some kind of rage for Nick, whose brow furrowed as he lunged into a haphazard strike. One that was easily blocked with a simple extension of his arm. With a casual flick, Khaic threw Nick's Fang across the ruins.
To his surprise, Nick didn't even try to summon it back. It seemed that the king was dethroned, both physically and mentally.
'This is who I've been warned about?! Who my Queen had said couldn't break the seal of Annihilation until Juliana died, no matter what?! He doesn't even have any energy left! Even as I threaten to torture everyone he loves, the coward refuses to fight back!'
Khaic stabbed his sword through the impudent fool's shoulder, pinning him to a rubble of his own creation. Another showcase of this travesty. This piece of shit could annihilate half the town just with his aura, ending all of his squires in the process, but couldn't even put up a decent fight?!
Leaving the king limp and bleeding out, Khaic slowly walked over to retrieve his Fang. It was evident to him that, at this moment, he would probably appear to be a Walker to Nick. This was because, even if he took an eternity to grab the Fang, the end result would be all the same.
Right before he stabbed the Fang through Nick's abdomen, Khaic said, "This is the weapon I'm going to use to cut up Juliana and feed her to Amelia. Do you understand me, my liege?"
Khaic willed his helmet into the shadows so that Nick could see his smile as he jammed the Fang into his king's abdomen. Blood began pouring from the wound like a river—
'What's this?'
Khaic thought as the wound instantly closed and some sort of screen appeared in front of Nick.
[Rearguard Passive — Durable — activated]
Then he heard the King chuckle. But not from madness, at least not the kind born from endless torment. No, it was a laughter meant to ridicule and mock.
As the King's insatiable and endless laughter continued, Khaic felt an endless pit form in his stomach as another screen flashed in front of Nick.

[Transcendent level up!]
"It's good to see that even demons feel fear. I'm going to enjoy teaching you how to truly torture someone."
What do you think?
