Chapter 26 - The Overwhelmed Stepmother and the Heroine’s Favor
Chapter 26: The Overwhelmed Stepmother and the Heroine’s Favor
Five days passed in the blink of an eye.
Xu Corporation — CEO’s Office
Xu Hao sat at his desk, reviewing the reports sent by his secretary, Li Kun, about three shareholders.
For Li Ping, the first shareholder, the Blood Butcher gang had already set a trap by luring her son into gambling. He racked up billions in debt, signing IOUs he couldn’t possibly repay. Now, debt collectors were preparing to visit.
“What? You’re refusing to acknowledge the debt even though the IOUs are right here?”
“Decide—do you want your arms broken first, or your legs?”
Li Ping and her family couldn’t fight against a group of ruffians, and calling the police wouldn’t help. The debts were signed and sealed, with clear evidence. They had no choice but to concede.
Desperate, she turned to Xu Hao for help.
Xu Hao sent a single text: [
“Close the net.”]Next, he turned his attention to Lu Qinghong, the second shareholder.
The plan was straightforward: orchestrate an accident at one of his company’s construction sites and then flood the internet with negative publicity. Arrange for accusations of forced demolitions, unpaid wages, and disgruntled workers to tarnish his reputation.
Lao Mo had the team ready; they only needed Xu Hao’s signal.
As for the third shareholder, Zheng Xuelin, Xu Hao had yet to make a move. He didn’t want to attract undue attention, but reclaiming those shares was inevitable.
Xu Hao couldn’t tolerate any factor beyond his control.
Knock, knock.
Two soft knocks broke the silence. Xu Hao put away the reports and said calmly, “Come in.”
The door clicked open, revealing not his secretary, Li Kun, but the graceful figure of Xia Qingge.
Today, Xia Qingge wore a professional suit, sheer stockings, and high heels, exuding mystery and allure.
As a recent graduate of a prestigious university, her adaptability was impressive. She had transformed from a fledgling student into a competent white-collar worker in just a few days.
Noticing her dedication, Xu Hao had promoted her to a financial supervisor position after recent layoffs left vacancies.
She had come to report on the company’s financial status.
“Mr. Xu, here’s the financial expenditure report for the past month,” she said, closing the door gently before starting her presentation.
Despite addressing him as “uncle” in private, she maintained professionalism at work, devoid of personal emotion.
Xu Hao listened attentively as she detailed the financial situation. Satisfied, he grew increasingly confident in his plans.
The heroines in his life were not only capable but also indispensable assets. If he could recruit them all into the company, they’d undoubtedly become his strongest allies.
Xu Hao yawned and stretched, feeling the fatigue from the previous night’s efforts.
At fifty, he was more vigorous than most young men, often working—or indulging—late into the night.
His relentless stamina had even worn down Su Wanqiu, a workaholic who used to spend her days at beauty salons. Now, she barely managed to work in the afternoons.
Though mature and experienced, even she found it overwhelming. More than once, she had hesitated before suggesting, “Could you lower the frequency?”
“Or maybe find someone else to share the load?”
“Please, don’t rely on me alone…”
After finishing her report, Xia Qingge noticed Xu Hao’s weariness. Concerned, she offered, “Mr. Xu, I’ve learned some massage techniques to relieve fatigue. Would you like me to give it a try?”
“Oh? Qingge, you can do massages too?” Xu Hao asked, intrigued.
“A little,” she replied modestly, having picked up the skill from online tutorials.
Seeing no objection, she set down her documents and moved behind him. Her delicate hands rested on his shoulders, kneading gently.
Xu Hao exhaled deeply, relishing the moment.
Having a beautiful woman massage him after a tiring day was a luxury he could get used to. If not for the lack of suitable candidates, he would’ve replaced Li Kun long ago. Having a male secretary was simply too awkward and obstructive.
“Mr. Xu, is the pressure okay?”@@novelbin@@
Standing behind him, Xia Qingge’s cheeks flushed slightly, hidden from Xu Hao’s view. This was her first time massaging a man.
“It’s good; your technique is impressive,” Xu Hao replied, his tone relaxed.
“When it’s just the two of us, there’s no need to call me Mr. Xu—it feels too formal. Just call me Uncle.”
He thought about how maintaining the “Mr. Xu” title might dampen the intimacy during future interactions. Being called “Uncle” felt much more personal.
“Okay, Uncle Xu,” Xia Qingge responded, her voice sweet and soft.
That single “Uncle Xu” filled Xu Hao with satisfaction. He paused, then asked with genuine curiosity, “By the way, Qingge, have you adjusted to the company? Has anyone given you a hard time?”
“I’ve adjusted well, and no one has bullied me. The company environment is amazing—everyone is so talented, and they speak so pleasantly,” Xia Qingge said with a smile.
Talking about work brought a bright expression to her face. This company was everything she had dreamed of—a perfect workplace.
But it wasn’t just the work environment that made it special. The main reason was Xu Hao himself.
Before meeting Xu Hao, she had already admired him as a legendary figure and was curious about him. After meeting him, he didn’t disappoint.
Xu Hao’s care for her, his thoughtful welcome gift, his unconditional trust, and his decision to promote her to a supervisor role—these gestures deeply moved her.
Having lost her mother at a young age and with a father too busy to show her much affection, Xia Qingge was a girl who lacked love. Xu Hao’s concern slowly worked its way into her heart.
Xu Hao didn’t doubt Xia Qingge’s words. After the mass layoffs he orchestrated, the remaining employees had become much more disciplined. Whatever their private thoughts, they outwardly maintained a façade of harmony and cooperation.
“Hmm?”
Xu Hao glanced at the system interface and noticed it had just updated with an emotional value from Xia Qingge—a sign of her growing affection for him.
What do you think?
