Chapter 183: Chapter 177 Upper Echelons I Chapter 183: Chapter 177 Upper Echelons I June 19th
Before dawn, the weather was cloudy with no wind.
Lin Fei officially received a call from the branch office, stating that the person to be protected had already arrived in Southwest Province, but not at the original target location. Instead, they had changed to another place—Yuan City, a marginal prefecture-level city far distant from Ping City. At the same time, a brief message was sent to his cell phone.
“This mission will serve as an assessment task.”
“Assessment?” Lin Fei pondered thoughtfully. Given the D-level Peak ability he was currently exhibiting, an assessment was still required, which meant there must be some unexpected developments after the assessment. Perhaps he would step into an entirely new level or domain.
Jiang Feng and Lin Jianguo were busy with the company’s affairs, spending every day either socializing or handling business, with Jiang Feng also taking care of school matters, so their presence was rarely seen. This happened to be convenient for Lin Fei and Lin You to move freely and do their own things.
Every morning, Lin You would leave the house shrouded in mystery and only return a moment before their parents came home in the evening. Then she would put on an act of being obedient and good, expecting Lin Fei to cover for her with excuses.
Lin Fei’s trip this time would probably take quite some time, but he could no longer pass it off with just any excuse. Things like going on a trip with friends, attending a summer camp, visiting a classmate’s house, or participation in activities of the Swordsmanship Club had all been used too often. Lin Fei held the phone helplessly, not knowing what excuse to give his family.
Out of options, he ended up making up an excuse about visiting a classmate’s house.
“Yuan City? Who could you possibly know there?” Lin Jianguo seemed to be busy with something, as his voice kept cutting in and out of the conversation with Lin Fei, along with voices of other people in the background.
“Dad, it’s the holidays anyway, and it’s time for me to rest a bit. I’m grown-up enough for you not to worry about my safety,” Lin Fei said with a wry smile.
“Yuan City is a bit far. How many days are you planning to be there?” Lin Jianguo asked directly.
“I’m not sure, but it won’t be more than a week. I’ll call back home,” Lin Fei replied, considering the maximum duration of the mission.
What do you think?
