Chapter 519: Chapter 566: Crimson Marching Ants
Chapter Five Hundred Sixty-Six
The two emerged from the cave into Death God Valley where the trees were exceptionally large, with many reaching up to a hundred meters tall. Within this forest, people seemed insignificant. Having split from the followers of the Serpent Witch Sect, this was exactly what they wanted; after all, joining the Serpent Witch Sect had been a means to infiltrate Death God Valley.
“Wan’er, what are you looking for in Death God Valley?” Long Xiaoshan asked.
Lan Wan’er replied, “I am here to find the Supreme Gu Insect Eggs.”
“Gu Insect Eggs?”
“Yes, Master. Haven’t you noticed that the insects in Death God Valley are especially large and ferocious?”
...
Long Xiaoshan had previously encountered giant hornets, and along the way, he had seen other insects that were several times larger than those outside.
He nodded, “It seems so.”
“The insects in Death God Valley are all extremely fierce. In fact, not just the insects; there are many lost varieties of strange species in the valley. The Gu Insects cultivated from these creatures are particularly powerful. Even that Divine Serpent of the Serpent Witch Sect comes from Death God Valley,” Lan Wan’er explained.
Long Xiaoshan understood Lan Wan’er’s intention now.
As a Gu Master, it wasn’t one’s own strength that was most formidable, but that of the Gu Insects.
The stronger the Gu Insects, the greater the Gu Master’s power.
No wonder Lan Wan’er wanted to sneak into Death God Valley.
“Since that’s the case, I understand now.” Long Xiaoshan and Lan Wan’er were walking through the dense forest when suddenly the space in front of them opened up. The ground appeared sandy, devoid of any plants. Long Xiaoshan suddenly pulled Lan Wan’er.
“What’s wrong?” Lan Wan’er asked, looking at Long Xiaoshan.
Long Xiaoshan shook his head, picked up a stone from the ground, and threw it forward. The stone flew dozens of meters before crashing down, plunging directly into the ground with a plop.
The ground immediately began to tremble.
Seconds later, the sand erupted upwards, growing higher and higher until it formed a sand dune several meters tall. Boom! The peak of the sand dune burst open, and a mass of crimson ants spilled out, spreading like a wave of red tide in all directions.
These ants were much larger than ordinary ants, each as thick as an adult’s thumb.
“Crimson Marching Ants!” Lan Wan’er’s face changed as she looked at the red ants.
“How about these as Gu Insects?” Long Xiaoshan asked.
“Of course, that’s possible, but the Crimson Marching Ants are terrifying. Where their colony passes, nothing grows. They have a special kind of fiery acid in their bodies which can corrode and devour anything. In World War II, there was an army that vanished overnight while encamped, leaving no trace of their tanks or firearms. It became an unsolved mystery. Several years later, a nest of Crimson Marching Ants was found nearby, confirming that the army had been devoured by them,” Lan Wan’er said with lingering fear.
“Since they’re so formidable, I’ll distract the marching ants for you while you fetch their eggs from the nest,” Long Xiaoshan said.
“That’s too dangerous,” Lan Wan’er said anxiously.
“Don’t worry, just watch me.”
Long Xiaoshan quickly rushed forward and threw a Jade Talisman at the sand dune. Bang!
The dune exploded into a huge crater, revealing an underground nest.
Countless Crimson Marching Ants were enraged and charged toward Long Xiaoshan, like a tide of blood following behind him. Long Xiaoshan dashed into the nearby forest at breakneck speed, with the red tide trailing him. Wherever it passed, grass, shrubs, and stones hissed and disappeared swiftly, even the great trees, requiring a dozen people to encircle, toppled immediately once the red tide swept over them.
Lan Wan’er watched anxiously as the Crimson Marching Ants followed Long Xiaoshan and vanished.
From the exploded ant nest, numerous red ant eggs were exposed.
Taking a deep breath, Lan Wan’er quickly went over, scooped up a bunch of ant eggs, and stuffed them into her pocket. Suddenly, a gigantic ant emerged from the ant nest—this ant was half a meter long with a pair of wings on its back, and its sharp mandibles viciously snapped toward Lan Wan’er.
Lan Wan’er hastily rolled on the ground to dodge the Ant Queen’s attack.
She waved her hand and released a multitude of Gu Insects.
These Gu Insects swarmed onto the Ant Queen, who, in a fit of anger, burst out of the ground and sprayed a torrent of red corrosive acid, instantly melting away the multitude of Gu Insects.
Lan Wan’er hurriedly sprinted away from the Crimson Marching Ant nest.
The Ant Queen unfurled her transparent wings and flew toward Lan Wan’er.
Lan Wan’er was shocked. Typically, an Ant Queen would become swollen and lose the ability to fly after laying eggs, but this Ant Queen could still fly.
And she was incredibly fast. Lan Wan’er frantically ran into the forest with the Ant Queen in relentless pursuit. The two dashed into the forest, one after the other.
Lan Wan’er continuously released Gu Insects to hinder the Ant Queen’s advance, but the Ant Queen was much more ferocious than the average marching ant and even had the ability to fly. Her bodily fluids contained strong corrosive properties, and the Gu Insects were poisoned to death as soon as they bit into her.
The number of Gu Insects Lan Wan’er had dwindled, yet the Ant Queen was still hot on her heels.
As the Gu Insects on her were about to be exhausted, Lan Wan’er didn’t dare to release any more. Sending them out would be a senseless sacrifice. Lan Wan’er drew a curved knife and swiftly slashed at the Ant Queen.
Thud—the curved knife sliced through the Ant Queen, cutting open a gash.
The Ant Queen’s blood surged out, and the curved knife rapidly melted.
Lan Wan’er cried out in shock.
The corrosive nature of the Ant Queen was terrifyingly powerful.
After being wounded, the Ant Queen let out a sharp shriek and spat out a large mouthful of acid, which showered down like raindrops.
Lan Wan’er made a desperate roll to get away, but several drops of acid still landed on her, instantly corroding several holes into her flesh.
Lan Wan’er screamed in pain, scrambled up, and ran with all her might.
However, her legs and back were eroded by the potent acid, causing excruciating pain. Moreover, the Ant Queen’s acidic saliva was toxic, making her feel dizzy and lightheaded. The more she ran, the more her footsteps faltered, and in no time, the Ant Queen caught up with her.
The furiously enraged Ant Queen opened her massive mandibles and aimed for Lan Wan’er’s neck.
Lan Wan’er’s face showed despair; she no longer had the speed to evade the Ant Queen.
What do you think?
