Universe Infinite Canteen

Chapter 656: Mountains and Waters

Old Wang had just finished fiddling with the revenue for Red Ridge and took the opportunity to get himself a suite in Nightmare Town.

Another message came from the City Manager, asking if he had time to teach a class.

Old Wang replied, "What class?"

"......"

It took a while for the City Manager to send another message, succinctly stating, "Teaching the newbies. It's what you agreed to last time."

"Oh, oh, oh, oh." Old Wang remembered, there seemed to be such a matter, and the thought of the basement filled with mountains of dried vegetables and smoked meats immediately invigorated him.

He turned off the newly purchased 115-inch TV and messaged back to the City Manager, "I'm ready. When is the class?"

"Tomorrow morning at nine at the Mountains and Waters Resort. Do you have time?"

Old Wang checked the route with the Gaode Map navigation, "It takes an hour to drive there, so I'd have to get up before eight, that's too early."

"9:30 then, no later."

"Okay." Old Wang agreed, actually he wouldn't bother for just 600 Star Currency, but considering the chance to promote his restaurant and attract new customers, he still needed to do this class.

Old Wang then asked, "What do you want me to teach them? Taking a taxi, settling the bill, or renting a place, finding a job?"

"Others have taught those. Your class will be on preventing online fraud."

"......"

"Hm, that definitely needs to be learned on Earth," Old Wang admitted.

"In any case, do your best, because at the end of the training camp there's an exam. Whichever subjects they score highest in, the teacher of that subject will receive an extra reward on top of the teaching fee."

"What's the extra reward?"

"If you want to know, you better teach well," the City Manager replied.

"Cut it out, even you're starting to bait me now."

Although he said that, Old Wang's curiosity was piqued by the extra reward. Besides, what he was competing in this time wasn't just anything; it was education.

Education was something Old Wang was familiar with; he had spent over a month being a principal in a Different Dimension and was practically a professional in the education industry. Plus, this time he was on home turf, and he didn't see any possibility of losing.

Old Wang put down his phone and immediately turned on the computer to start preparing his lecture.

He planned to make a PPT first, to organize what he was going to talk about tomorrow so that his teaching could be more structured.

Four hours later, Old Wang reluctantly turned off the old version of "Journey to the West" he had been watching up to the sixth episode.

Damn, he had never realized "Journey to the West" was so good; was this the charm of preparing for a class?

Old Wang looked at the time again and saw it was almost ten at night.

His PPT was still on the first page, deliberating whether or not to add a flying-in-from-the-right animation effect and applause to the title "Preventing Online Fraud."

No, it wouldn't work; he definitely couldn't finish it alone even if he stayed up all night.

So Old Wang decisively sought outside help, calling Shen Yue to outsource this task to her for two thousand bucks, then he went back to watching "Journey to the West."

The next morning, the alarm woke Old Wang, who was still in his sleep.

Usually, since the Universe Infinite Canteen didn't open until eleven, Old Wang was used to sleeping until ten before getting up. This time he had to get up at 8:10 because he had a class to teach.

Yawning, he brushed his teeth and washed his face at the speed of light, and for breakfast mindlessly opened a pack of dried vegetables. By 8:20, he was sitting in the car.

Ma Lu first took Old Wang to the restaurant. Although he wasn't at the restaurant this morning, he had already told Ma Youyou in advance to be responsible for fetching vegetables from the kitchen, so it wouldn't affect the business of the restaurant.

Afterwards, he glanced at his mailbox and saw that Shen Yue had already sent over the courseware. He didn't have time to check it and hurriedly drove to the Mountains and Waters Resort, arriving at the destination just 5 minutes before the lecture started.

Ma Lu parked his car, got out carrying his laptop, and quickly walked a couple of steps before he remembered something. He went back to his ES8, opened the trunk, and took out a cardboard box, which he tucked under his arm.

Mountains and Waters claimed to be a resort, but in reality, it was more like a larger country house with a big courtyard, enclosed by two three-story buildings and a wall.

Ma Lu entered the building facing the main entrance and saw a young lady at the reception desk, who was cracking sunflower seeds with a tablet in her arms.

It wasn't until Ma Lu coughed twice that she didn't look up, "Our place has been booked by a company, if you're looking for a place to stay, go to the place next door."

"I'm not here to stay, I'm here to give a lecture."

This time, the receptionist finally raised her head and sized up Ma Lu, "Are you Mr. Ma, the teacher?"

"Indeed, it is I."

"Go to the third floor, room 301. That's a large conference room," the young lady continued to crack sunflower seeds, "everyone else has already gone there."

"Thank you."

"These days, even scammers call themselves teachers," the young lady muttered under her breath.

"What did you say? Scammer, who's a scammer?" Ma Lu asked curiously.

"You, what good can you do at such a young age? You're in a pyramid scheme."

"Oh, we're not a pyramid scheme."

"Sure, pyramid schemes, they never admit it," the young lady said as she spat out a shell of a sunflower seed, revealing a knowing look.

Ma Lu didn't know what her deal was and didn't bother explaining further. He was about to go upstairs when he heard the receptionist again.

"Tell that Xiao Jian Country to stay away from me. I've had four boyfriends, and I can see right through whatever he's scheming. The local police station is less than a mile away, and my brother works there."

"Alright, who did you want me to tell again?"

"Xiao Jian Country, the chubby one with glasses, who has a creepy smile."

"Oh, no problem." Ma Lu made an OK gesture with his hand.

He climbed to the third floor and arrived at room 301. Even before entering, he heard the sounds of merriment coming from inside. However, as his footsteps reached the door, someone said,

"Shush, someone's coming, quick, go back to your original selves, don't let them see any flaws."

Ma Lu reached out to push the door and tried once but couldn't get it open. He pushed again, and this time, the door opened easily.

Ma Lu entered the conference room and at a glance, saw a group of people sitting behind a series of desks.

Those desks all looked rather old, some of them even peeling, probably discarded by nearby middle and elementary schools.

Behind those desks sat men and women of all ages, from teenagers to those in their seventies, all dressed differently, including bosses with briefcases and construction workers with safety helmets.

Seeing this assorted mix, it was no wonder the receptionist downstairs thought they were involved in a pyramid scheme.

Apart from a pyramid scheme, it was rare for an ordinary company to gather such an extravagant cast of characters.

However, what surprised Ma Lu was that the staff at the resort seemed unaware of the backgrounds of these people.

He didn't know what the City Manager was up to; Ma Lu had initially thought the training camp would be something like a secret base in a spy movie or at least a place that seemed like a country house on the surface but in reality was an office for The Grand Alliance on Earth.

He never expected Pigeon to be so down-to-earth, literally taking up a country house as the venue.
