Chapter 811 - Abandonment and Invitation
Chapter 811 - Abandonment and Invitation
Other demon generals in the training grounds were talking while subtly exuding their fighting intent toward one another.
The Demon General Ranking Battle was a significant event for them all. Even among allies, everyone was a rival at this moment. If they crossed paths, there would be no holding back.
Whoosh.
A vast demonic might descended.
The grounds fell silent as everyone turned toward the source of the overwhelming aura.
In the distance, a group soared through the sky.
Leading them was a figure of unparalleled presence—Dou Yan, the third-ranked demon general. His surroundings seemed to shift constantly, a testament to his half-step Manifestation realm cultivation.
The top three demon generals were, without a doubt, the strongest and most influential people below the demon lords.
Dou Yan’s icy gaze swept across the crowd, silencing them instantly.
Chen Fan, too, turned his attention to the scene. His eyes narrowed as he noticed someone following closely behind Dou Yan—an expert he immediately recognized.
It wasn’t Mu Tianfang, the target of his mission, but the same man who had attacked him near the demonic doors. Chen Fan hadn’t expected to see him here, much less as a guardian under Dou Yan’s command.
Chen Fan remembered Qi Xue saying a continental martial artist had joined the eastern demon palace. He had speculated it might be Mu Tianfang. But now, it was clear she had been referring to this man.
Recalling the moment that man had ambushed him, Chen Fan’s eyes became icy, emitting killing intent.
If not for his own exceptional strength, that sneak attack might have cost him his life.
“Oh, it’s you.” This man sensed Chen Fan’s gaze and icy killing intent within it. He was momentarily taken aback, but a hint of amusement appeared on his face, and he revealed two rows of white teeth.
He said, “I didn’t expect you to make it here as well. Very good. I was in a hurry back then and couldn’t kill you. I warned you then—if we crossed paths again, you wouldn’t be so lucky.
“It seems like you’re doing pretty well. You must be a guardian under her. That’s fine as well. Since we met, I will make good on my word. This Demon General Ranking Battle will be your end.”
The man spoke with a relaxed smile, as though he considered Chen Fan an ant.
“You know him? Past grudges?” Dou Yan asked, looking at Chen Fan.
“I don’t know him. He just got in my way once. So, he’s fated to die,” said the man matter-of-factly.
Dou Yan nodded and said, “Makes sense.”
To Dou Yan, Chen Fan appeared just as insignificant—a minor figure unworthy of his attention. If Pan Huan wanted to kill him, he saw no reason to interfere.
Qi Xue’s expression sank. “What is going on? The person beside Dou Yan wants to kill you?”
“That’s right. I want to kill him too,” Chen Fan said indifferently.
She furrowed her brow. If that man weren’t under Dou Yan but instead a demon general ranked below her, Qi Xue wouldn’t have cared.
But now, Chen Fan’s grudge involved someone directly under Dou Yan, forcing her to reconsider.
In the cruel demon sect, a single misstep could lead to disaster.
If she openly opposed Dou Yan for Chen Fan’s sake, she might lose her position as the tenth-ranked demon general—not to mention her hopes of rising higher.
Without hesitation, Qi Xue made her decision. “Since that is the case, then from now on, you are no longer my guardian, and no longer under me.”
Decisive by nature, Qi Xue wasted no time abandoning Chen Fan.
Sentiment was meaningless—everything revolved around personal gain.
She had thought Chen Fan would be a pretty good assistant; now that there was a possibility that he could threaten her position, she didn’t hesitate to cut ties for protection.
Qi Xue didn’t bother to lower her voice. Instead, she made her declaration loud enough for Dou Yan to hear. It was her way of ensuring Dou Yan wouldn’t target her during the ranking battle.
The other demon generals looked on with faint traces of pity.
If Qi Xue hadn’t been so decisive and ended up targeted by Dou Yan, their ranking might have risen.
“Hoho.” Pan Huan’s mocking gaze fell on Chen Fan, carrying an air of smug provocation, as if to say, “See this? A single word from me and your master has no choice but to abandon you. How sad.”
Chen Fan’s gaze turned cold, surprised by Qi Xue’s desertion. This left a bitter taste in his mouth.
“You are abandoning me because you didn’t want to be targeted by them, right? What a pity. With my help, you could have gone a few steps further, but you got scared and gave up just because of their hostility. You’ve already lost this Demon General Ranking Battle,” Chen Fan said indifferently.
Qi Xue’s expression immediately turned cold.
She turned back, her icy gaze carrying an overwhelming aura of authority. “I climbed from nothing to reach where I am today. Why would I halt my progress because of you? And even less so allow your words to shake my Dao heart.”
Chen Fan looked at Qi Xue and mocked, “Of course, your Dao heart won’t be shaken by my words. But you lack even the courage to compete with others, yet you dream of advancing further? What a joke.”
“Insolence, do you believe I won’t kill you right now!”
A chilling intent erupted from Qi Xue as if she could freeze heaven and earth.
He stared at her without a trace of fear, then turned away as though she were no longer worth his attention.
Since he couldn’t take part in the Demon General Ranking Battle, he could only fight his way into one of the demon palace halls and forcibly seize a demon general’s position after the event.
Just as he began to walk away, a voice called out to him.
“Hold on.” @@novelbin@@
Halting his footsteps, Chen Fan turned around to look. His gaze fell on a female demon general at a corner of the training grounds.
“What’s the matter?” Chen Fan asked.
He knew who this female demon general was.
Among the twenty-eight demon generals of the Xuan Ting Demon Sect, only two were women—Qi Xue and Yan Shuiyi.
This woman was clearly Yan Shuiyi, the twenty-eighth-ranked demon general.
Although they were both women, be it strength or status, there was a huge gap between her and Qi Xue.
This disparity was evident from the guardians and attendants gathered behind her.
Yan Shuiyi looked at Chen Fan, her eyes twinkling, and asked, “Do you wish to take part in the Demon General Ranking Battle?”
Chen Fan nodded.
“Since you wish to take part in the Demon General Ranking Battle, then, are you willing to be my guardian?”
Yan Shuiyi extended an invitation to Chen Fan.
The others revealed amused looks on their faces when they heard her proposition.
Yan Shuiyi wanted to recruit someone whom Qi Xue had abandoned.
More importantly, Dou Yan’s guardian, Pan Huan, was aiming for Chen Fan’s life.
What do you think?
