Chapter 837 - Rumors and Slanders
Chen Fan felt extremely helpless.
The princess wanted him to pretend to be her man once, but once the rumor spread, even pretense would solidify into reality. And if the princess decided not to let him go, what could he do?
Seeing his hesitation, she simply reclined on his bed and declared, “Then I won’t leave.”
Chen Fan walked up to the bed, gazing at her delicate, alluring figure; he felt at a loss for words.
This demonic lady truly feared nothing—there was not a trace of royal decorum in her.
The princess opened her beautiful eyes, looked at Chen Fan, and said with a smile, “Don’t worry. The outside world will spread news about us soon enough. Your fears are already a reality. By now, everyone in the sect will be talking. You can’t refuse even if you want to.”
“Your Highness is so at ease with me? What if I’m a despicable, lecherous man?”
“I’d allow it,” she replied with a coy smile, her enchanting glances stirring his soul.
“Alright then. Since Your Highness insists, I’ll agree. However, I came here from the Tianwu Continent for an important matter. I’ll leave when it’s completed. I only ask that Your Highness not make things difficult for me when that time comes,” Chen Fan said seriously.
If he couldn’t stop her antics, at least he could state his truth.
The princess studied him carefully. “So, that’s why. It seems no matter what I do—even humbling myself to marry you—I still can’t make you stay. Am I that unattractive?”
“Your Highness’ charm need not be elaborated on. I ask that you let me go.” Chen Fan smiled bitterly.
Before he could react further, the princess moved. She appeared behind him, her hands lightly resting on his shoulders. Her body pressed so close to his that he could feel the faint warmth of her skin. The intoxicating fragrance she carried made his breath hitch.
“The more you resist, the more I want to see how far I can push you.” The princess exhaled; her warm breath brushed against his ear, carrying the delicate scent of orchids.
With a mischievous giggle, she vanished, leaving only the ghost of her presence behind.
Chen Fan let out a sigh of relief and sat on the bed. The lingering fragrance she left behind seemed to mock his predicament.
He knew he was out of options—refusing her demands would only invite chaos. The princess wasn’t someone who took no for an answer, and her methods were as unpredictable as they were relentless.
“Haaa, if I’d known this would happen, I never would have accepted this mission.” Chen Fan couldn’t help but let out a long sigh.
......
“I heard First Demon General Chen Fan and the princess are in love?”
“Is that for real? How could anyone be good enough for our princess? Sure, Chen Fan is remarkable, but still...”
“I don’t know if it’s true, but they say the princess visited his chambers.” @@novelbin@@
“What! She went to his chambers?!”
“Also, the princess meets him often. Apparently, she dismissed all her subordinates the last time they were alone in her residence. Who knows what might have happened...”
“Impossible! The princess is my goddess, out of reach and inviolable. How could Chen Fan be worthy of her!”
“......”
The rumors spread like wildfire, growing more elaborate with each retelling.
The extraordinarily talented first demon general had earned the princess’ favor, and rumors swirled that they were now a couple.
Some even claimed the princess had visited Chen Fan’s chambers, shocking the demon sect. Others spoke of him often visiting her residence and spending time together intimately, though no one knew the truth.
It seemed to uphold the adage: peerless talents are destined for devastating beauties.
Since ancient times, beauties had loved heroes. Even Tu Shan, the former first demon general, failed to capture the princess’ heart. Yet Chen Fan, who defeated Tu Shan decisively, not only seized his title but also the princess’ affections.
When Chen Fan heard these rumors, he could only let out a bitter laugh. Even he didn’t know when he supposedly fell in love with the princess.
When Yan Shuiyi looked at Chen Fan with an ambiguous gaze, Chen Fan threw his hands up and said. “Nothing happened! I’m innocent!”
“Really? So all those rumors are false? But from what I’ve heard, the princess did visit you that day, Lord Demon General. Truly impressive! Not only did you claim the First Demon General's position in record time, but you also charmed the princess. I’m in awe,” Yan Shuiyi teased.
“No matter what I say, I can’t clear my name,” Chen Fan said, smiling bitterly.
Suddenly, a messenger arrived and said, “Reporting to Lord Demon General, Her Highness the Princess has invited you.”
“Ugh...”
Chen Fan’s expression stiffened. Noticing Yan Shuiyi’s dubious gaze and her amused smile, he felt incredibly awkward, his face darkening with embarrassment.
“There’s really nothing between me and the princess.” Chen Fan shook his head as he walked away, indifferent to whether Yan Shuiyi believed him
Clearing his name now was impossible—even if he jumped into the Yellow River. He grudgingly admitted that the princess' tactics were indeed ruthless.
He arrived at the princess’ residence. She walked toward him with a face full of smiles and helped Chen Fan adjust his clothing.
The onlookers’ stares only cemented the rumors in their minds.
“Your Highness.” Chen Fan smiled bitterly.
“You have to get used to your role in advance. Don’t forget that you promised me,” said the princess, smiling charmingly.
Then, without warning, she linked her arm with his. Her touch was soft, almost intoxicating. However, Chen Fan did not have any thought to savor this greatness.
“Come, let’s meet my father. He can resolve your problem,” said the princess.
His face shifted between green and white, but he had no choice but to follow her lead.
Chen Fan arrived at an imposing palace with the princess embracing him. It was heavily guarded, with experts as numerous as the clouds.
Ahead stood a broad-shouldered figure in black robes trimmed with gold, his back turned to them.
“Father, I brought him,” said the princess.
The figure turned—a dignified middle-aged man whose very presence radiated authority.
Just standing there, he exuded a majesty that rivaled few, even among the Manifestation realm experts Chen Fan had encountered. This was Demon King Xuan Ting.
Chen Fan understood this overwhelming authority came from the fact that Demon King Xuan Ting ruled the entire demonic island.
“Chen Fan pays his respects to the Demon King,” Chen Fan greeted him.
“No need to be polite.” Demon King Xuan Ting said calmly, “I’ve heard plenty about you from this girl. Since she likes you, treat her well—don’t disappoint her.”
“This... Demon King...” Chen Fan began, intending to explain, but a sudden sharpness flashed in Xuan Ting’s eyes, radiating an overwhelming majesty.
“Hmm?” Demon King Xuan Ting seemed displeased.
“Father.” The princess stomped her foot and said coyly, “Don’t scare him. Rest assured, we’re very close. Xiaofan will definitely treat me well.”
“Mmm, I hope so. If he lets you down, he won’t leave this island alive,” said Demon King Xuan Ting, his voice as imposing as his presence.
“This...” Chen Fan was completely dumbfounded. It was clear now—he had walked straight into the princess’ trap, and escape seemed impossible.
What do you think?
