Chapter 2 - Approaching Ding Dian

Chapter 2: Approaching Ding Dian

After a whirlwind of dizziness, Yang Yu opened his eyes again, only to find that everything around him had changed.

Before him stood a massive office desk, and as he looked around, he estimated the office to be at least 200 square meters. Every detail of the decor exuded extreme luxury.

“System, where am I?” Yang Yu asked.

Ding! “Congratulations, host! You have entered Ex-File 3: The Return of the Exes. The background has been generated.”

Yang Yu felt like his head was about to explode. A few minutes later, a flood of memories surged into his mind.

In this world, he was the chairman of a Fortune 500 company in Modu, still named Yang Yu. His life seemed like a cheat code—an orphan who left the orphanage at twelve, came to Modu, and built the Yang Corporation from scratch within twenty years, amassing a fortune worth billions.

Ding! “Since this is your first time entering a world, to prevent immediate failure, the system has assigned you an elite identity. Please work hard to complete your tasks.”

“What tasks do I have?” Yang Yu asked.

Main Quest 1:

 Collect luck.

Main Quest 2: Save Lin Jia and change her fate.

Side Quest: Change Ding Dian’s fate.

“Now, distributing the beginner’s gift pack. Congratulations, host! You have acquired photographic memory, a basic body enhancement serum, and business mastery. Enjoy your journey!” the system announced.

A sudden jolt of energy coursed through his body. Instantly, every novel and film he had ever seen became crystal clear in his mind. A surge of power erupted within him—it felt like he could smash the desk in front of him with a single punch.

“System, what does ‘collecting luck’ mean? Can you explain?” Everything else made sense, but this particular phrase left Yang Yu confused.

“Every world has a ‘Child of Luck.’ Defeat them and take everything they have—you will then collect their luck.”

“Got it.”

Yang Yu nodded. The ‘Child of Luck’ was just another way of saying protagonist. So, all he had to do was go against Meng Yun? That sounded easy.

Sitting in his office, Yang Yu started recalling the plot of Ex-File 3.

Meng Yun and Lin Jia had been in a five-year relationship that had fallen into stagnation. A minor argument led to their breakup. Their mutual friends, Yu Fei and Ding Dian, tried to mend their relationship, but their own love was also tested in the process. Meanwhile, Meng Yun and Yu Fei threw themselves into a wild bachelor lifestyle, indulging in nightclub parties and dating apps, stubbornly refusing to reconcile.

“One thought he would never leave; the other thought she would be stopped. Lucky for me. I wonder if the plot has started yet,” Yang Yu murmured.

He picked up the phone on his desk. “Secretary An, book me the fastest flight to MD.”

“Understood, boss.”

At HQ Airport, a young man, around twenty-five or twenty-six, stepped out of the terminal wearing sunglasses and casual attire.

Outside, a line of bodyguards in black suits and dark shades stood waiting for him.

Yang Yu waved his hand dismissively. “No need to follow me. People will think we’re some underground gang.”

Seeing passersby casting curious glances, Yang Yu wasn’t interested in drawing too much attention. He glanced at his Lamborghini Reventón, stepped on the gas, and the car roared to life, disappearing in an instant.

While driving, he made a phone call. “How’s the investigation going?”

“Boss, we found her. Ding Dian is working at a café in the World Trade Center. I’ll send the exact address to your phone,” a middle-aged man reported.

Ding Dian—it had to be her.

Yang Yu planned to approach Ding Dian first. From what he recalled, she seemed easy to befriend. More importantly, he needed to figure out where the plot currently stood. Since he was still in the dark about the timeline, understanding the story’s progression would help him create opportunities.

Soon, he arrived at the World Trade Center. After parking his car, he stepped into the café where Ding Dian worked.

“Welcome! What would you like to drink, sir?”

Yang Yu looked up—it was Ding Dian.

In his previous life, he had been just an ordinary guy with no experience in flirting, but now things were different. With money in his pocket, confidence came naturally.

“A cup of coffee made by such a beautiful lady is bound to taste amazing. Surprise me,” Yang Yu said with a charming smile.

“Sir, you love to joke,” Ding Dian replied, slightly embarrassed.

She thought to herself, He’s good-looking, but sweet talk like that? He’s probably just like Yu Fei—ugh! Trying to hit on me? No way!

Despite her thoughts, a slight smile still crept onto her face.

Women—always vain. A few compliments, and they’re already pleased. Yang Yu mused.

Of course, his good looks played a major role. At 1.85 meters tall, with a face comparable to a fresh young idol, his charm was undeniable. If an ugly guy had said the same thing, he’d probably have a cup of coffee thrown in his face. After all, this was a world where looks mattered.

“Sir, here’s your coffee. Enjoy,” Ding Dian said.

“Thank you. I’m Yang Yu. May I have the honor of knowing your name, beautiful lady?” he asked, still smiling.

“Are pick-up lines always this direct now?” Ding Dian rolled her eyes.

Before Yang Yu could respond, she added, “Just so you know, I have a boyfriend. I’m not that kind of girl, hmph!”

With that, she turned and walked away arrogantly.

Looks like I came at the right time—the story hasn’t started yet. Yang Yu thought to himself.
