Chapter 25 - Lan Yuxi Returned with a Bottle of Water

Chapter 25: Lan Yuxi Returned with a Bottle of Water

Lan Yuxi, hearing Wang Cheng’s suspicion that she might have done something to betray him, looked furious.

“Wang Cheng, are you implying that I, Lan Yuxi, am a fickle and promiscuous girl? If that’s what you think, then don’t bother talking to me anymore.”

Clearly, it was Wang Cheng’s fault for sowing the seeds of this trouble, causing her to be dragged into the mess and even losing her first kiss.

Yet now, he was blaming her for getting too close to Qi Lin. Lan Yuxi felt both hurt and wronged—she really wanted to kick him to death.

“Uh…”

Between Wang Cheng and Lan Yuxi, Wang Cheng was clearly the weaker party. Despite his earlier aggressive tone, he immediately backed down when Lan Yuxi glared at him with her beautiful eyes.

Lan Yuxi came from an elite family, while Wang Cheng was just a poor boy from a humble background. Even without Wang Cheng, there would still be many outstanding boys chasing after Lan Yuxi.

But if Wang Cheng lost her, he might never find someone as exceptional as this beautiful, wealthy, and elegant girl.

“No, no, how could I dare suspect you, Yuxi? I’m just angry at Qi Lin for speaking irresponsibly and acting without morals. He must have approached you first, and because you’re kind-hearted, you got into his car, right?”

Wang Cheng laughed nervously, even making up an excuse for Lan Yuxi on her behalf. A man willing to act this subservient to his future partner was indeed remarkable.

After all, they had been classmates for over six years. Wang Cheng kept apologizing and trying to make amends, which gradually softened Lan Yuxi’s anger.

“After school, Qi Lin saw me walking alone under the scorching sun and stopped his car to offer me a ride. I didn’t want to get in at first, but he was so insistent. Since we’re classmates, I didn’t want to make things awkward, so I got in.”

“I don’t like owing anyone anything, so I treated Qi Lin to a meal. Afterward, he offered to drive me back to school, and I agreed. Who knew he would go to your house instead? So, do you see now? It’s all a misunderstanding.”

Lan Yuxi’s cheeks flushed slightly.

Today, she lied again and again. But other than lying, she didn’t know how to explain her getting into Qi Lin’s car to Wang Cheng.

She couldn’t exactly say she had been caught cheating by Qi Lin, who used it to manipulate her, steal her first kiss, and cause all the subsequent chaos, could she?

Wang Cheng would probably faint from rage on the spot if he heard that. People often need a reason they can accept for themselves.

“I knew it! There’s no way a toad like Qi Lin could catch someone as outstanding as Yuxi.”

Hearing that nothing had happened between Lan Yuxi and Qi Lin, Wang Cheng was overjoyed and immediately started showering her with exaggerated compliments.

“Alright, stop sweet-talking. Who was it earlier, eating vinegar out of nowhere?”

Lan Yuxi rolled her eyes at Wang Cheng.

Then, as if recalling something, she suddenly turned serious and warned Wang Cheng, “Let me tell you something—stay away from Qi Lin. He’s not a good person, and you’ll never be able to outsmart him.”

What man likes hearing his crush say he’s inferior to another man?

Wang Cheng felt annoyed.

But he didn’t dare defy Lan Yuxi’s advice.

“Okay, I’ll keep that in mind,” he nodded.

Internally, however,Wang Cheng sneered, “Just a rich kid with some money? Qi Lin, that bastard, dares to covet Yuxi? I won’t let him get away with it.”

“Just wait—one day, I’ll make that bastard Qi Lin kneel before Yuxi and apologize. I’ll make Yuxi see me in a whole new light.”

“Ten minutes until the exam starts. If anyone needs to use the restroom or buy water, do it now,”

The homeroom teacher, Mei Sanyuan, walked onto the podium with a stack of exam papers, sipped his tea, and addressed the class.

Wang Cheng immediately glanced at Qi Lin, curious about his reaction. If Qi Lin went to buy water, Wang Cheng planned to follow him and mooch off him for water and snacks.

Today, Wang Cheng hadn’t brought a single cent to school. He didn’t believe Qi Lin could trick him this time. But to Wang Cheng’s surprise, Qi Lin didn’t get up. Instead, Lan Yuxi, who was sitting next to him, stood up and walked out of the classroom.

At the doorway, Lan Yuxi bit her lip and shot Qi Lin a glare. Now she finally understood why Qi Lin had insisted she buy water for him—he just wanted to provoke Wang Cheng.

Initially, Lan Yuxi didn’t want to go, but when Qi Lin shook his phone, his dark eyes full of mischief, it seemed to say—If you don’t go, I’ll show these photos to Wang Cheng.

It’s just a couple of extra explanations when I come back, right?

Frustrated, Lan Yuxi headed straight to the school store. Perhaps out of spite, when she returned, she handed Qi Lin a one-yuan bottle of Wahaha mineral water.

Qi Lin didn’t mind, though—his goal was to create a rift between Lan Yuxi and Wang Cheng. What kind of water he drank didn’t matter. When Lan Yuxi came back with the bottle, Wang Cheng saw it and froze for a moment, then felt a surge of joy.

Lan Yuxi usually brought her own pink thermos to school and drank from that. Today, she must have noticed Wang Cheng hadn’t brought water, so she went out of her way to buy a bottle for him.

Wasn’t this her way of apologizing and putting an end to their earlier spat?

“Yuxi, you really didn’t have to go to such trouble.”

Wang Cheng stood up as Lan Yuxi passed by him in the front row, reaching out to take the bottle from her and trying to act gracious. But Lan Yuxi didn’t even acknowledge him. Instead, she kept walking to the back of the classroom.

“Here, your water,”

She said coldly, shoving the bottle roughly into Qi Lin’s hand.

Qi Lin took it without hesitation, twisted the cap off, and took a big gulp.

“Ahh, water from the class monitor tastes especially sweet,”

He said with a mischievous grin, glancing at Lan Yuxi’s moist lips.

Lan Yuxi’s face flushed red. She glared at him and turned to leave. Up in the first row, Wang Cheng stood frozen, as if struck by lightning, completely dumbfounded. The rest of the class was just as stunned.

Everyone knew Lan Yuxi hated Qi Lin. Now she was bringing him water? This was like the sun rising in the west. The homeroom teacher, Mei Sanyuan, glanced at Qi Lin and Lan Yuxi but quickly lowered his head to focus on the exam papers.

Lan Yuxi was an exemplary student, and he didn’t believe she would start dating early. As for bringing Qi Lin water, that was her personal matter. Perhaps it was out of kindness, trying to help the underachiever of the class. Who could say?
