Warlock of Oceans: My Poseidon System

Chapter 427: Third Floor: The Haunted Forest of Winter Deers (22)

As the illusions cracked, Sylus capitalized, rushing forward to engage one of the creatures in close combat. He dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding a lunging strike, then dropped low, sweeping his leg out to destabilize it. He flipped back up, following with a fierce upward slash that severed one of its antlers completely. The Deer let out a shrill bellow, its illusions faltering as Sylus finished it off with a concentrated aether blast that left it collapsing in a heap.

Cyrus and Athena coordinated their efforts against the last two Eldritch Deers. They positioned themselves to split the creatures' focus, each keeping one engaged as they unleashed powerful, precise attacks. Cyrus moved in close, his blade glowing with lethal energy as he ducked and weaved around the creature's strikes, landing blow after blow to weaken it. Athena flanked the other, using her magic to build icy barricades, funneling it into a narrow corridor where it was easier to control.

The trio's breathing was ragged, muscles aching, but they held their ground, pushing back the creatures with a relentless series of calculated attacks. Each strike was sharper, every spell more intense, as they focused their remaining energy on the fight, determined to end it on their terms.

With a focused intensity, the trio dove into the final phase of the relentless onslaught, their movements honed by exhaustion yet sharpened by sheer willpower. Each step and strike felt heavy yet purposeful, a choreographed survival instinct forged in the fires of battle.

Cyrus leaped into the fray, his movements a blend of fluidity and brute force as he darted around the last Eldritch Deer. He dodged a swing of its massive antlers, each pronged with glistening eyes that flickered and shimmered in tandem with the creature's unearthly power. He countered with a low slash, feeling the satisfying resistance of his aether-infused blade carving through its sinewy leg. Sylus moved like a ghost to Cyrus' side, using the temporary imbalance Cyrus created to land a crushing heel-kick against the beast's exposed side, sending it staggering back.

Meanwhile, Athena held the line against the smaller Winter Deers, her icy magic flaring with each flick of her wrist. With a sharp cry, she launched another wave of razor-sharp icicles into the charging mass, freezing and shattering anything in her path. The relentless waves of the Winter Deers were relentless, but she used her environment to her advantage. Each time they advanced, she crafted towering walls of ice that forced them to funnel through narrow openings, thinning their ranks enough for her to dispatch them with swift precision.

The Eldritch Deer's antlers pulsed with light, unleashing a disorienting wave of illusions that rippled outward. Sylus and Cyrus were prepared, their aether shields flaring up in sync to ward off the deceptive spells. Each illusion shattered upon contact, splintering like glass as they pushed back, inch by inch, against the creature's oppressive aura.

"Athena, now!" Cyrus shouted, spinning his blade above his head in a controlled arc, the flash of aether illuminating his exhausted yet determined expression.

With a fierce nod, Athena conjured a massive, spiraling spear of ice, the glint of her magic catching the muted light filtering through the treetops. She hurled it with all her remaining strength. The spear flew through the air like a frozen lightning bolt, piercing through the Eldritch Deer's side and emerging on the other end with a sickening crack. The beast let out a deafening, otherworldly wail as its form began to crumble, frost coating its body as it slowly collapsed to the ground.

Now only one last wave of the Winter Deers remained. Sylus dashed forward, aether charged within his fists, as he cut through the final remnants of the horde. The three moved together, their strikes blending into a symphony of impact and resolve as they cut down the last of the Winter Deers. Each blow was met with a satisfying crunch as the forest fell silent, and the final creature crumpled to the ground under their combined assault.

They staggered back, breathing heavily, before they each collapsed to the ground, feeling the biting cold of the forest floor seep into their bones. The corpses of the Eldritch Deers lay scattered around them, but then something disturbing happened: each corpse began to slowly sink into the ground, as if devoured by the earth itself.

The three exchanged wary glances, just as an unnatural chill crept over them, prickling the hairs on the back of their necks. They snapped their heads upward in unison and froze. The sky above them was an unbroken sheet of darkness, and it was filled with eyes—thousands of them, peering down, unblinking, watching. Each eye was luminous, shifting in size and shape as though breathing, pulsating with a sinister rhythm that felt disturbingly alive.

Cyrus and Athena shared a look, a strange familiarity sparking between them, the disturbing sense of déjà vu hitting them both. They recognized the feeling, yet somehow, this was different—darker, deeper. The eyes above were calculating, crawling with a deeper malice that chilled them to the bone.

But instead of fear, a fierce annoyance welled up inside of them. They'd already given everything they had, drained every last ounce of strength and aether, only for the twisted nightmare to evolve again.

They let out a collective wail of frustration, a battle cry of anger and sheer exhaustion. Their voices echoed through the forest as the eyes in the sky suddenly descended, streaming down like a rain of shadow and light, plunging into the earth in thick, pulsing strands. Each strand merged with the ground, sending reverberations through the frozen soil, pooling together until they formed a hulking shape that loomed before them.

From the ice and shadows, an enormous, eldritch form emerged. It resembled a massive Winter Deer, yet it was twisted and warped beyond recognition. Its towering form was covered in fractured patches of translucent ice, inside which innumerable shifting eyes blinked and stared. Its antlers stretched out like sprawling, gnarled branches, each one adorned with writhing tendrils and clusters of unblinking eyes. The creature's chest bore a gaping hollow filled with swirling darkness, a chilling abyss that seemed to suck in all light.

Despite its horrifying appearance, the trio met the monster's gaze with an expression of pure exasperation. They were far beyond awe or terror—now, it was personal.

"You've got to be kidding me," Sylus muttered, his fists tightening as he readied his stance.

Athena exhaled sharply, her fingers already flaring with icy blue energy. "You son of a bitch."

Cyrus felt his shoulders tighten with his sword crackling with a faint pulse of aether. "FUCK! FUCK YOU! JUST DIE!" he yelled at the top of his lungs. The three warriors steadied themselves, irritation and determination merging as they braced for the next phase of their unrelenting fight.

As the fight began, the trio found themselves dwarfed by the enormity of the Eldritch Deer. It towered over them, its antlers stretching into the treetops like ancient, twisted branches alive with writhing tendrils and countless watchful eyes. Each passing second seemed to deepen the creature's horrific form—new limbs, eyes, and pulsing veins of dark energy erupting from its icy hide. And while it lurched forward, ready to crush, the smaller Winter Deers encircled them, lunging with their needle-toothed jaws and launching sharp mental assaults that warped reality in bursts of twisted illusions.

Sylus darted forward, fists charged with aether, leaving trails of golden light in his wake. He dipped low, weaving through the Eldritch Deer's long, swinging legs, narrowly dodging a swipe of its enormous, clawed hoof that gouged a crater into the forest floor. Pivoting on his back foot, he drove a powerful, aether-infused punch into the creature's leg, aiming for one of the many pulsing eyes embedded in its skin. The impact sent out a blast of energy that cracked the eye, but before he could revel in the small victory, the creature responded instantly, swinging a massive antler down toward him.

With a quick sidestep, Sylus dodged and retaliated with a sharp uppercut, delivering another shockwave of aether. It was barely a dent in the monster's bulk, but it staggered slightly, giving the others an opening. Cyrus leaped into action, his sword blazing with aether, and swung upward, unleashing a wide arc of energy aimed at the beast's chest. The blade carved through, scoring a deep line into its icy hide, yet the wound only seemed to stir the monstrosity further as its eyes pulsed with renewed malevolence.

The Eldritch Deer retaliated by thrashing one of its antlers, twisting toward Cyrus, its bulk casting a crushing shadow over him. Cyrus rolled to the side, narrowly dodging the deadly strike, then pivoted and planted his feet. With a fierce yell, he drove his sword into the creature's leg, embedding it deep and releasing a surge of aether that pulsed through the blade and burst outward in shards of light. The limb buckled slightly under the force, but the beast remained unyielding, letting out a roar that shook the ground beneath them.
