Warlock of Oceans: My Poseidon System

Chapter 431: Third Floor: The Haunted Forest of Winter Deers (26)

As it lashed its limbs at them with relentless fury, Sylus and Cyrus alternated positions, striking fast and hard before darting back out of its reach. Sylus executed a series of quick punches at its legs and lower body, each blow resonating with a pulse of aether that destabilized its stance, while Cyrus swept in with powerful, sweeping slashes to disorient it further. The duo worked in perfect unison, a deadly harmony of offense and defense, moving like synchronized blades that cut into the monstrosity's form.

Meanwhile, Athena held off the smaller Winter Deers that surged forward, snapping their gnashing teeth and attempting to pull the trio into illusions. She conjured walls of ice to block them, then shattered them with bursts of magic, scattering the deers with sharp, glittering shrapnel. Each time they tried to close in, she unleashed controlled aether blasts, creating rippling waves that dissipated the illusions before they could take hold. She twisted and dodged through the barrage, pivoting on her heels as she launched precision strikes of frost to thin the relentless horde.

Cyrus gritted his teeth, sensing an opening in the creature's defense. He sprinted forward, ducking beneath a swinging limb and leaping up, bringing his sword down in a thunderous overhead slash at the creature's center. The sword struck true, sending a rippling crack through its core. In response, the abomination lashed out with a long, clawed appendage. Cyrus barely managed to sidestep, the sharp tip grazing his shoulder as he spun away, narrowly evading a follow-up strike.

Sylus saw the moment and seized it, darting in close. He lunged, twisting his body mid-air to deliver a fierce elbow strike to the creature's fractured chest. The impact sent a shockwave rippling through its form, the aetheric energy from Sylus's blow destabilizing the beast further, forcing it to stagger backward.

But the Eldritch Deer retaliated with a flurry of claws and limbs, sweeping in every direction, its eyes blazing with fury. Athena cast a quick barrier around the group, blocking a deadly swipe aimed at Sylus, who spun around and struck low, hitting one of its sprawling limbs at the joint and dislocating it with a resounding crack. The creature shrieked in pain, writhing as it tried to regain balance.

They pressed their advantage. Athena launched a spiraling bolt of ice directly into its split jaws, freezing part of its monstrous face. The beast roared, shaking its head violently to dislodge the freezing effect, its shadowy body shifting and growing darker, more menacing with each passing second.

Cyrus, panting and battered, lifted his blade again. "Aim for the center! If we break it open, we might have a chance!"

Sylus and Athena nodded, each pouring aether into their attacks. Sylus darted in first, landing rapid punches across the creature's core, his fists glowing brightly as he slammed them into the beast's fractured torso. Cyrus followed with a sweeping strike, carving through the creature's defenses as Athena unleashed a powerful stream of freezing magic that encased parts of its chest.

But the Eldritch Deer was relentless, twisting its form to shield its weak points. Tendrils extended from its back, writhing and swiping at them like a forest of living shadows. The three of them dodged and ducked, moving as a unit to evade each strike. Sylus ducked low, sliding under a tendril and retaliating with a devastating uppercut to one of its legs, while Cyrus spun, dodging the razor-tipped limbs and delivering a fierce slash along its torso.

The battle raged on, their coordinated movements allowing them to strike at the beast's vulnerabilities, but it fought back with a terrifying fury. Each of them was pushed to their limits, relying on every bit of strength, skill, and strategy to keep from being overwhelmed. And as the creature continued to mutate, becoming a more horrifying, eldritch monstrosity with every second, they knew that the fight was far from over.

As the battle against the Eldritch Deer reached its peak, Cyrus, Sylus, and Athena were pushed to their absolute limits, each move costing them valuable energy. The abomination had reached its most horrifying form yet—its skeletal limbs twisted and doubled back, forming a cage of shifting, spiked bones around its torso to guard its weakening core. Dozens of eyes blinked and rolled frantically, each one tracking their every movement, and its jaws hung open, releasing an endless screech that warped the air.

But the trio would not be deterred.

With a roar, Sylus dove in first, charging straight toward the core. As one of the creature's clawed arms swiped down, he sidestepped with incredible speed, pivoting to deliver a sharp elbow to the joint, cracking it. He then spun in the air, slamming a knee into the creature's side, causing it to stagger. Seizing the opening, Athena conjured a massive bolt of ice, thrusting her arm forward to drive it straight into the core's protective cage. The bolt shattered on impact, weakening the bony cage enough for Cyrus to dart in with his blade.

Cyrus raised his sword high, channeling every remaining shred of aether into the blade until it glowed with an intense, fiery light. He let out a fierce shout as he brought the blade down with all his strength, smashing through the bony cage and driving the sword deep into the creature's core. The abomination shuddered violently, letting out a piercing, otherworldly scream as dark energy erupted from its wound, washing over the trio in waves.

As the beast staggered back, its body crumbling under the force of Cyrus's blow, Sylus leapt into the air, driving a powerful, aether-charged fist into the cracked core, shattering it entirely. The Eldritch Deer let out one last agonized howl as its form splintered into wisps of dark energy, which dissipated into the air before vanishing completely.

The moment of triumph was fleeting, however, as the surrounding Winter Deers immediately pressed in, undeterred by the loss of their leader.

The trio had barely a moment to catch their breath before they were forced to dive back into the fight, surrounded by an endless sea of snapping jaws and lunging claws. Athena moved quickly, creating a circle of icy spikes that shot outward, impaling any deer that drew too close. Cyrus swung his blade in wide arcs, every slash imbued with aether to cleave through their foes in a flash of glowing steel. Sylus moved with calculated precision, his fists glowing as he delivered devastating punches that shattered skulls and cracked bones, each blow sending shockwaves that knocked multiple deer back at once.

Athena, constantly shifting to avoid the smaller deers' attacks, conjured an ice wall at her back and used it to spring forward, firing a barrage of freezing bolts in every direction. Each bolt struck a deer, freezing it mid-attack before it shattered into icy shards. She spun to her left, blasting another wave of icy energy at an approaching group, buying herself a brief respite.

Cyrus and Sylus worked in perfect tandem to cover each other's blind spots. As Cyrus swung at a trio of approaching deers, Sylus intercepted one attempting to flank, grabbing it by the antlers and twisting, snapping its neck before hurling the corpse into another charging deer. The two shared a brief glance, nodding in silent understanding as they fell into a rhythm. Cyrus would slice through the wave in front of him, then immediately step back as Sylus stepped forward, delivering a fierce double-punch to stagger the next group.

The Winter Deers began unleashing waves of illusions, warping their perceptions and blending into the shadows. But the trio had grown adept at countering these attacks—Sylus emitted controlled pulses of aether at intervals, dispelling the illusions in short bursts. Cyrus and Athena took advantage of these gaps, using the clarity to strike at the deers with heightened precision.

One particularly large Winter Deer lunged at Cyrus, teeth bared. He ducked under its maw, spinning to the side and driving his blade upward into its chest, twisting as he drove it deeper before kicking the beast off his blade. Another deer tried to seize the opening, but Athena flicked her wrist, sending a shard of ice to pierce its skull, freezing it in place. She leapt forward, landing beside Cyrus, breathing heavily but ready to press on.

As they continued the relentless battle, their movements became more desperate but no less effective. Cyrus swung his blade faster, dodging strikes by mere inches as he cut through multiple Winter Deers in one sweeping arc. Sylus delivered powerful, devastating strikes to any deer that came within reach, each punch sending ripples of energy that destabilized the creatures around him. Athena, breathing heavily, summoned one last blast of magic, sending icy spikes into the final wave, freezing them solid.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they looked around to find no more deers approaching. They shared a glance, a mix of exhaustion and relief in their eyes, as the last of the Winter Deer corpses collapsed to the ground. The forest was still, save for their ragged breaths echoing in the cold air.
