Chapter 471: Here's Your Probe, Ignore The Shadows
I told the girls what I saw and while they believed me, they didn't really think there was anything we could do about it anyway.
Interestingly, when I asked the ring about it, they told me that they saw nothing, but more because they didn't have eyes and they weren't using 'eyes' to see in the first place.
That was something interesting I learned so when I asked what it used to sense its surroundings, apparently it was using something it called Psionic waves or something which allowed it to sense things all around it with a range that was further than the eye could see.
That's why it managed to sense the thing on the probe despite not being able to see it.
But then it also theorised that the eye I saw might only have shown itself to me so I would be the only one who would have been able to see it.
Since that was the case here, I did the only thing that I could do… I forgot about it.
We had other things to worry about right now anyway… Which was showing what we found to Hasani.
When we returned to the station, the lion guy was already standing at the docking bay alongside a small army of researchers who were all waiting there for me, their eyes practically bloodshot.
The moment they saw me, all of them rushed forward and crowded around me, each of them trying to talk over each other.
"Where is the probe!"
"What did you see there?"
"What happened to the crew on that ship?"
"Why did that ship suddenly get pulled into the black hole?"
"Can I have your number?"
"Miss Tera… Can I have more honey please?"
Oh, you're also here, Lanos? Seems like you're fitting in quite well. And seriously, did you already run out of honey? I'm pretty sure I have you like three jars of it… That's enough to last you at least a few months if you used them sparingly you know?
Thankfully, Hasani let out a roar which made the researchers flinch back and part ways for him to approach me.
"The probe?" He asked.
I jerked my thumb behind me where the probe was sitting beside Ries, the Maochatte standing beside it with her drones hovering over the probe.
Hasani nodded in appreciation at the probe and I noticed his hand… Err… Paw twitch. He most likely wants to rush towards the probe and dissect the data on it but he's trying to put on airs in front of his research colleagues right now.
Speaking of which, I had a quick glance through the data in the files but they were all a bunch of numbers and stuff that I didn't understand so I left it for Ries to look through instead. She seemed quite excited to look through it as well which surprised me a little until she explained that the data could give her some insight into making some weapon related to the anomaly.
I decided not to ask for details and left her to it.
Hasani turned back to me, "What about the ship? What happened to the crew on the ship? Why weren't they answering our hails?"
I took out the personal terminal and handed it over to him, "You might want to see this video then."
He took it from me and raised an eyebrow at me but went ahead to start playing the video.
The other researchers immediately crowded around behind him and peeked around him to watch the video as well.
I waited patiently as the video played out, my mind mentally playing out what was happening using the sounds played through the speakers as reference.
Then the screams started happening and I know they reached the part where the shadow entity had appeared and were attacking the crew members.
There were a few gasps coming from the researchers and some of them were looking at the probe behind me with clear concern on their faces.
I decided not to tell them that the creature was no longer there and just let the video play out first.
At that point, I could hear the distressed cries so they should be seeing the guy transform into the shadow figure right now.
Sure enough, most of their eyes widened and there was a gurgle coming from the personal terminal which meant that they were watching the cameraman transform as well.
Then there was silence.
"That's it," I told them, my voice actually causing Hasani to jump a little.
He quickly put the personal terminal aside and gave me a serious look, "Are you telling me that you met these things on the ship as well?"
Ah yes, the questioning.
Obviously I couldn't give him the full information since I didn't want them to have any suspicion that we might have Psionics on our ship so I have already gone through with the girls on what I should tell them.
"We first boarded the ship and found no one inside. I believe all the crew had run towards the front of the ship so the monsters ended up being at the front while we had entered the ship from the back. Then we found that personal terminal and realised how screwed we were so we simply freed the probe from the cargo bay doors and ran back to the docking hatch."
Hasani frowned, "So you didn't see these… Things?"
I shook my head, "That's not it. When we opened the cargo bay doors, it seemed to have triggered them and the ship started getting pulled into the black hole for some reason while these things started flooding the cargo bay."
"Did you kill them?"
"Bullets don't work on them but it seems like they really don't like fire. We had some fire grenades that we tried using to slow them down and it was really effective. We used that to cover our escape back to the docking bay and back onto our ship. My crew secured the probe and I decided to open fire on the ship since I didn't want to risk them trying to use the ship to fly back or something."
"What about that big monster with the spikes?"
"It's not on the probe if that's what you're worried about. We saw it amongst the crowd of those shadow monsters coming from the front of the ship."
There were quite a number of sighs of relief from the researchers when they heard me tell them that the monster wasn't on the probe anymore.
I thought Hanabi would be one of those who were relieved but he actually frowned in disappointment, "What? So it's not on the probe? Damn… I wanted to study it…"
Dude, did you not see how it literally killed an entire ship full of people? And you want it on this station? This guy is mad…
I gestured at the probe, "Anyway, it's here now. So just pay us for it and we'll be on our way. I think your security really doesn't want us to be here longer than we already have."
Hasani turned to look back at the guards who were clearly dissatisfied with our presence and shrugged, "Fine. Here, as promised. Plus the bonus for finding out what happened to the crew and getting this video back as well."
He handed me a gold Credit Chip and I immediately slotted it into my Codex to see the number twenty million pop up on my screen.
Sweet. I guess this was worth it after all.
Now I'm prepared to do some serious shopping with all the money we've earned so far~
Before I could wave goodbye to Hasani though, he stopped me with a raised hand.
"Hey… Just asking… Would you be interested in working for us again?"
There were a few groans coming from the security team but he ignored them.
I shook my head, "Hell no. You guys are located in such an isolated place and I wouldn't want to go out of my way just to come here."
"Then… How about just keeping in contact? I'll contact you for anything we might need and you can decide if you want to help us?"
I was about to say no again but then thought that it would be better to just hold on to it than to just completely burn bridges with them.
But before I could even voice out my agreement, Lanos quickly raised her hand to interrupt.
"Please! Allow me! I can serve as the liaison between them! I do wish to have a trading agreement with them as well since only they can procure something which we need!"
Ah…
I'm pretty sure Hasani thought that Lanos was referring to the Psionic Crystals but I know for a fact that Lanos was talking about my food.
Instead of correcting Hasani's misunderstanding though, I thought this could just be another avenue of profit for us so I just let it go.
There's no such thing as too much money after all~
Anyway… I think we're actually done here now, are we?
What do you think?
