"Ufufufu~ I hope you've learned that you should pay more attention to your territory and staff instead of just your sword all the time now~"

I'm pretty sure Unerolia didn't do that because it might draw attention to our group and by extension, draw attention to me.

That's why even Mother did not complain when Unerolia decided to just leave quietly after the maid's suggestion.

I did understand that Unerolia wanted to make sure there was enough rope to hang whoever was in charge around here as well, so confronting him with the problems directly when he returns right there would fit the requirements.

The only problem is that we don't know when he will be back.

When she had pressed the maid further, she found out that the Ragnus guy sometimes might just leave the fort for days on end and only return after a while. There was even sometimes where he might disappear for an entire month before returning from wherever he had been.

While this might be normal if he was in a position to engage in diplomacy and meetings with important people outside of the fort, this guy doesn't have the authority to do so and his area of influence should be limited to the immediate vicinity of the fort.

That's why for him to just disappear for such a long time was entirely unreasonable.

Even if he were to inspect the fort's surrounding areas, he should be back within three days at most and that's only because of emergencies and not as a frequent occurrence.

Well, what that means for us is that we would most likely be stuck here for a few days at least. If we're unlucky, then we might be stuck here for a few weeks…

The good thing was that there's actually quite a number of accommodations within this fort town since there's quite a lot of traffic travelling in between the Oligarchy and the Kingdom here. Thus, merchants have set up plenty of amenities catering to travellers that are moving through here.

That's why we were able to get this rather nice suite for ourselves to stay while we wait for that guy to come back.

Oh, Unerolia is also staying in another room, though it's already pretty clear she wants to spend most of the time in our room so I wonder why she even bothered to book another room.

She has been pacing back and forth in the middle of the room ever since we came here as well…

Unerolia turned to Mother, "Can't you tell me where he is? We could get an estimate on how long it would take for him to come back if we know his position."

"Ufufufu~ Is little Une asking for information from the Nilm Family again?"

"Oh come on!! Haven't you extorted enough from me already?! This information would also help you, wouldn't it? That way you won't need to remain stuck here for longer than necessary!"

Mother giggled, "Ara, ara~ That's where you are mistaken, little Une~ You see, I have no problem with this taking a little longer than normal~"

She then pulled me into her lap and started patting my head while cuddling me.

Unerolia looked at me, then at Mother, then back at me again.

Right then, I could see the imaginary cogs spinning inside her head and her lips suddenly curled up into a smile.

"You're right! This is the perfect time to enjoy Aster! And since this is all related to work, I won't be scolded by Esmeral for staying here too! This is perfect!"

She then tried to pounce towards me but Mother reached out one of her hands and grabbed her face before she could land in my chest.

"He's about two days out from the fort and he'll be coming from the direction of the Oligarchy. He has been gone for three weeks and he has primarily been in the Oligarchy this entire time. That's all the information I would be giving you, any more will cost you. Now go and get to work."

Oh geez Mother, seems like Unerolia really got you there huh?

She then pushed her a few steps back and Unerolia rubbed her face while groaning, "Ughh… Can't you be a little bit more gentle with me, Madam Nilm? I'm still a sprightly young girl, you know?"

"When you stop acting like a harlot then I will consider it~"

"Oh come on! You expect me not to do anything when Aster is right there?! Even a straight woman will turn lesbian for her!"

"Ufufufu~ At least you understand~ But just because of that, it doesn't give you the right to do whatever you want, whenever you want~"

"Ahhh! Just give me a break already! Just a little won't hurt right?! Just the tip! I'll be happy with just the tip!"

You know what? I think it would be better for me to just get out of here so that I can avoid this…

I stood up from Mother's lap and both women turned to look at me.

"I'll go take a walk around the fort…"

Mother smiled at me, probably realising that I was doing this to just escape from the situation.

"Ufufufu~ Very well, my little one~ Have fun~"

Unerolia quickly raised her hand, "I'll guide you around the fort town, Aster!"

Before I could even respond, there was a knock on the door and Esmeral's voice came from behind it.

"Mistress? There's a new batch of paperwork that needs your attention here. I hope that you aren't planning to run again."@@novelbin@@

Unerolia turned to the door and quickly ran to hide behind me, "Noooo!! Not now!! I'm busy, Esmeral! Come back later!"

Without even a moment's hesitation, Esmeral fired back, "These are marked as high priority, Mistress. There will be another batch of them later and if you don't do these now, it will just keep accumulating."

"Unngghhh… But Aster wants to tour the fort! I have to guide her since she's my guest!"

"In that case, I shall arrange for some guides for her, Mistress. There is no need to trouble yourself for this."

"But I wannaaaaa…"

"I will stay under your desk while you work, Mistress."

Unerolia suddenly clamped her mouth shut and I could feel her body tense up behind me.

Really? This got her attention?

She looked at me for a moment and I took the opportunity to take a step away from her.

I guess she got the message and her shoulders slumped slightly, "Fineeee… Can I still come and sleep with you tonight though?"

"Umm… I guess that's fine?" I muttered, looking at Mother to seek her confirmation.

Mother giggled, "Mama doesn't mind either, my little one~"

Honestly, I still don't understand Mother's priorities. Certain times she wants me all for herself but other times she's happy to share me with others.

There must be some criteria that she has for this which I have yet to decipher what it was and I doubt Mother was going to tell me.

Oddly enough, I kind of see the same behaviour in Katsuki recently and I'm not just saying that time where Esmeral wanted to fix my hair and Katsuki intervened.

I've come to learn that she has basically taken over the washing of my laundry and refused to let anyone else do that.

She has also taken up the role of being the sole maid who cleans my room after I have slept in it and even though the room itself was by no means really big, it was still sizable enough that a thorough clean would take a while… Especially considering what I do with the girls every night…

I think there were also other things that she was doing but this was what I know so far.

Hmm… I guess maybe she's preparing for the time that we would leave the house and she will be the only one that serves me?
