Chapter 585 - 435: Golden Patterns
Familiar golden patterns!
These golden patterns were from his own magic bricks!
Xiang Beifei immediately took out two magic bricks. Erha had been happily lying beside the sofa, watching videos and licking an ice cream, but when it saw Xiang Beifei pull out the bricks, with a "howl," it reflexively jumped into the air and hit the ceiling, cracking it!
"I'm not messing with you, what's with the overreaction?" Xiang Beifei said irritably.
"Howl! Howl!" Erha glared with indignation.
Xiaohei stood by the side, grinning, mocking Erha for being a coward.
Xiang Beifei couldn't be bothered with the Wooden Kirin and instead carefully compared the patterns in the video, gently touching the two magic bricks together!
Boom!
When the magic bricks collided with each other, a series of golden patterns immediately appeared on them, composed of intersecting lines. Some were like curved half-circles, while others were very straight, like parallel lines.
But these patterns were incomplete; most of them broke off at the edges of the bricks, as if more patterns were needed to complete the picture.
However, these patterns were nearly identical to those patterns Xiaohei had seen!
Xiang Beifei compared for a long time, trying to see if he could connect the brick patterns with the other patterns, but couldn't find a connection point.
"Woof woof woof!"
At this moment, Xiaohei paused the video, zoomed in quickly, and enlarged the grooves on the ground!
At the center of that groove was a rectangular slot.
Xiaohei took the brick, held it vertically, and gestured.
Xiang Beifei understood.
His magic brick could fit into that slot.
According to what Xiaohei described, the size of the slot matched his magic brick perfectly!
"Tick!"
At that moment, after the man spilled the last drop of blood, he started to walk back, leaving the cave.
Xiaohei had planned to stay and investigate, but considering it couldn't leave without the man and the magic bricks were with Xiang Beifei, it had no choice but to jump onto the man's bucket and leave the cave with him again.
"Woof! Woof woof!"
Xiaohei danced around with a serious face, gesturing.
It indicated that Xiang Beifei couldn't feel that aura just from the video, but the atmosphere in the cave was very strange. Being there, it felt extremely oppressive and powerful, indescribably weird, as if some monster was whispering.
"The whisper of a monster? Is something sealed below?" Xiang Beifei exclaimed in surprise.
Xiang Beifei watched the video back and forth, comparing the entire cave's patterns, pondering the origin of the magic bricks.
He still didn't understand what the deal was with the magic bricks. One brick came from his grandfather, and the other was sealed in the Bull Constellation. When used separately to hit someone, aside from causing a bump, they seemed to have no ability.
But when combined, they had the power to immobilize someone.
To say nothing of the complaining Erha by his side, which had been hit by the magic bricks many times, now it howls whenever it sees a brick on the roadside.
"It seems I really need to take a look at that cave sometime."
But he also knew how difficult it would be to infiltrate the core base of Unrestrained. After all, he still didn't know the exact location of Zi Hou.
Xiang Beifei put away the magic bricks and looked at the video Xiaohei had recorded.
After leaving the cave, Xiaohei realized that Erha was missing and started looking everywhere for it. At that time, the ground began to tremble, and the video became unstable.
The shaking was intense and spread far and wide.
Suddenly, a bunch of people appeared on the cliffs on either side of the canyon, and all of them were from Unrestrained. Like worker bees disturbed from a wasp's nest, they collectively leaped into the air, looking uncertainly in one direction.
"The mountain is acting up again! Everyone, quickly evacuate the base!"
"Be careful! Watch the ground and surroundings, don't let the cold air invade!"
Someone shouted urgently from the sky, apparently warning their companions. They clearly knew this situation well, as it wasn't the first or second time they had encountered it. A group of people began to fly rapidly out of the canyon.
That direction was toward the desolate beast area.
"Woof woof woof!"
Xiaohei pointed at the other side of the canyon, the obvious source of the shaking, which was opposite the direction the Unrestrained were evacuating.
It wanted to check out the source of the vibrations, but just then, a scream emanated from the crowd, and Xiang Beifei saw a familiar figure.
Wang Chengli!
Wang Chengli had been evacuating with the others, flying in mid-air not too far from the others.
However, at that moment, the space next to him seemed to rip open, and a gust of cold air shot out from the crack, instantly enveloping his right arm!
His face changed immediately, then his whole body started to convulse, and he fell straight from the sky!
"Quick! Quick! Use the black rope to get him out, but be careful not to touch him."
Someone was shouting as they flew toward Wang Chengli, quickly surrounding him. Soon after, a segment of black cord was flung toward him, its material unknown, but it carried an aura of frostiness.
The black cord wrapped around Wang Chengli, pulling and dragging him away.
The specifics of what happened next remain unknown, as Xiaohei was too far away and the video didn't capture it clearly. It didn't concern itself with this person, instead running swiftly ahead, while everyone else ran towards the back end of the canyon, it went in the opposite direction.
When it emerged from the canyon, it quickly saw a towering mountain piercing the clouds!
It was a snow mountain!
The snow mountain was some distance away, and at its foothills were a series of sharp ice spires rising from the ground. These spires were both sharp and tall, resembling slender peaks; the tallest even reached hundreds of meters, while the shorter ones stood at least ten or so meters tall.
From afar, the grand snow mountain appeared to be surrounded by a dense thicket of thorns, a magnificent sight to behold.
"Woof woof woof!" Xiaohei turned its head and gestured to Xiang Beifei.
This towering snow mountain stood there, with its surroundings a vast expanse of pallid whiteness, uninhabited by humans. However, Xiaohei indicated that the snow mountain was protected by powerful forbiddances from all directions, including both a system and Spiritual Power.
"Could this be Zi Hou?"
Xiang Beifei looked at the snow mountain with a hint of amazement.
Not being there in person, he could not sense the aura of the snow mountain, but from the video, the mountain seemed majestic and imposing!
And the source of the disturbance that shook the entire desolate beast battlefield came from this snow mountain.
Xiang Beifei wanted to keep watching, but he found that the footage that followed was just Xiaohei running back in a mad dash.
It was when he called Xiaohei to prepare for departure, and Xiaohei showed no sign of stalling. The Wooden Kirin also emerged from nowhere, running back alongside Xiaohei.
"Zi Hou and the mountain cave, what exactly is going on?"
Xiang Beifei had a plethora of questions in his mind, many things he could not explain clearly at the moment.
The strange mountain cave marked with snowflakes, the snow mountain on the other side of the canyon—all very odd.
Moreover, it wasn't even clear how Wang Chengli got injured. It seemed as if he was just the unlucky one chosen, suddenly swept up by the frostiness emanating from the space itself, nearly losing his life.
The most important thing was, if this place was so dangerous, why would the Unrestrained gather there?
Couldn't they just find a place to live further away? Did it have to be in the canyon?
...
Xiang Beifei pondered these issues, yet he wasn't in a hurry. Having found some clues, he decided to investigate them one by one, slowly.
Next, the Unrestrained would surely ask him to help mass-produce Formation Jades, and he would eventually get his chance.
"It's a pity I didn't get more video footage," Xiang Beifei said with some regret.
"Aoow!"
The Wooden Kirin flew down from the ceiling, scampered to the sofa across, and distanced itself from the brick in Xiang Beifei's hand. Then it barked at him a couple of times.
"Eh? Did you also get some video footage?" Xiang Beifei exclaimed in surprise.
With a smug lift of its head, Erha tapped the glasses on its tail, indicating that it wasn't just good for making trouble—it could get things done, too.
Xiang Beifei took the glasses from it and played the video within.
His eye twitched momentarily.
This silly creature, rather than wearing the glasses on its face, had placed them on its tail, meaning the entire video was shot looking backward.
Originally following Xiaohei forward, Erha saw Xiaohei enter a cave and, not wanting to be left out, it hurried off to the other side of the canyon and into a large cave.
This cave was far more whimsical, seemingly more imbued with a sense of modern technology than the one Xiaohei entered, lined with white glass panes on its walls, with shiny floor tiles, passing through various compartments akin to a laboratory.
It ran joyfully into the cave, stopping now and then, looking around curiously.
"You're running with such purpose—are you onto some scent?" Xiang Beifei asked.
As the fool had filmed the tail-end of itself, it remained unclear what it planned to do or where it was heading.
The Wooden Kirin wagged its tail, letting out a smug laugh.
It had caught the scent of a Beast Pill!
"I knew it," Xiang Beifei said resignedly, thinking to himself that next time he should attach a bell camera to its collar to save it from its own whims, preventing it from wearing the camera back to front like this.
But at that moment, it stopped running, and fortuitously the tail turned around. Although still tilted, it managed to capture the side view of a laboratory.
The strangest part was that the laboratory contained rows of lying people!
These individuals were covered in blood, with various types of wounds on their bodies. Upon closer inspection, they appeared to have been inflicted by desolate beasts, and many were clinging to life by a thread.
Xiang Beifei assessed the system interface of these people and discovered they were all S-rank Awakeners!
And some, by their attire, were clearly wearing the clothing of explorers from the alliance!
These were all explorers!
What do you think?
