Chapter 595

Chapter 595: Chapter 15: The Death of Aiwass Chapter 595: Chapter 15: The Death of Aiwass “I say, old man.”

Oswald squinted his eyes and said abruptly, “Though you’ve had your difficulties, this time you’ve gone a bit too far.

We’ll need to remember this.”

“As it should be.”

The square-faced elf with an air of righteousness simply nodded solemnly, “Anyway, I’ve tried my best; what happens next is no longer my concern.”

As he spoke, he turned to Aiwass and whispered, “Be careful these days, Bishop Moriarty.

Unless there’s something special, try not to go out…

There’s no need to even go to church.

Where the candle burns eternal, there is the sanctuary of the Candle Master.”

It might seem rather odd for a butler to be directing a bishop on matters of church and faith…

but if one knew that the individual was a Papal Guard, it would all seem quite reasonable.

“Don’t always talk about the young master.

...

You be careful yourself, old man…”

Oswald walked over and unceremoniously placed his hand on Diomedes’s back, pushing him away as if to urge him to leave.@@novelbin@@

Diomedes obediently followed Oswald out…

Once they left Moriarty Manor, it was expected that Oswald would inquire about some matters with him.

And as the old butler left with another butler, Old James turned back to look at Aiwass with interest, “Did you perceive something?

Can you tell Dad when you started feeling that something was amiss?”

Aiwass did not answer but countered, “Then why didn’t you attend the banquet?”

“Don’t answer a question with another question, Aiwass.”

James leaned back on the sofa, with his mouth slightly upturned.

But he was still good-natured enough to give an answer.

“Because those matters are too troublesome, not suitable for me.

Since I rejected the invitation, it wouldn’t be right to go there for a free meal and drink.”

Professor Moriarty’s mouth curved slightly upward as he calmly said, “Does this satisfy your curiosity, Dad?

“Now, back to the original question—when did you start to feel that something was off, and why was your refusal so adamant?”

Aiwass felt his heart suddenly gripped by an invisible pressure.

To hear Professor Moriarty’s words, one might think he was talking only about the royal engagement banquet.

What he had refused seemed to be just an invitation from Queen Sofia…

But Aiwass understood what he meant:

What Old James had refused was the invitation to join the rebellion led by Drost and others.

Even though he made his stance clear, not siding with the traitorous rebels, Drost still didn’t dare lay a hand on Old James…

That attitude could even be described as wary.

From another perspective, the foster father also did not take sides with the royal family.

In the game’s storyline, James had also remained hidden throughout.

At least before 4.0, there was no indication of anything wrong with James.

After Aiwass and Isabel fled to the Holy Nation, Oswald, James, and Edward also disappeared unnoticed.

Afterwards, Edward had been following James all along.

And his power level increased at an astonishing rate…

He always managed to gain some special benefits from world-ending disasters.

——When Edward once again became a supporting character with dialogue and voice acting, he had already become the main boss of the 6.0 version.

Although the foster father was theoretically the final boss, strictly speaking, he never participated in the actual battle—he was a mechanic kill outside of combat.

That was the last main line dungeon of version 6.0, and it was also the last dungeon Aiwass played before his transmigration.

Aiwass remembered the performance of that dungeon, clear as day, to this moment.

The final boss of that dungeon was a corrupted Edward.

He had fused with the heart of the “Calamity Demon Dragon,” wielded the tainted and shattered Holy Sword “Excalibur,” and had absorbed three Celestial Marshal Shards, becoming exceedingly powerful.

After the players valiantly defeated the high-difficulty Edward, to everyone’s surprise…

Professor Moriarty, previously believed to be just a schemer, appeared out of nowhere and easily intercepted the players’ killing blow.

But James was not his usual profound and gentle self; instead, he became crazed and gloomy, his once straight back now hunched.

He claimed that Aiwass had been his man from the start, and tried to persuade Aiwass to turn traitor.

The professor declared that “his great work” was nearly complete and he no longer needed “the players”—the word “player” displayed the name input by the player themselves, clearly indicating the player specifically.

However, at that moment, Aiwass appeared hesitant.

He wanted to go with James but also tried to plead on the player’s behalf.

This indecisiveness infuriated the somewhat crazed James.

He directly attacked the player, attempting to kill the player and take something from them.

Professor Moriarty’s power was incredibly strong—his attack froze time, turning the whole world into “negative colors.”

The players used a Divine Artifact given by the Hourglass to erect a shield, barely managing to carve out a small domain to counterattack.

And just then, Edward, who had just recovered from near-death, overexerted his Strength to launch a deadly sneak attack on the player.

That instant-death Spell was one of the core mechanics in the Edward dungeon.

Edward possessed seven selves, which meant six constantly appearing and disappearing clones.

Any damage dealt to his true self was shared among all present clones, the true self being invulnerable.

While attacking clones did result in normal damage, once a clone died, Edward would channel and resummon a new, fully-healed clone.
