Chapter 35: Thirty-one Save me, Lord Visas!
Chapter 35: Thirty-one Save me, Lord Visas!
Ulu lay on the ground, panting for over ten minutes before he belatedly realized what he had just done, and cold sweat instantly broke out.
“Visas, Lord Visas!” He immediately sat up, looking down at his left middle finger. He wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but it seemed slightly reddened from his own tight grip. He quickly explained, “I’m sorry, Lord Visas, I just got a little…”
Before he could finish his apology, Bai Wei interrupted him slowly.
“Ah, it seems you’ve calmed down.”
“Yes, Lord Visas, I was just a little…”
“Don’t worry about it. Besides, I prefer the defiant look you had earlier compared to how you are now,” Bai Wei said. “Would you like to recover a bit?”
...
Ulu: “…”
He wouldn’t dare to recover even if he had the guts!
“Ts, is that it? It’s rather dull,” Bai Wei said. “But your reaction just now was quite interesting. You seem different from what I imagined. Is there anything else you’d like to tell me?”
Once again, Bai Wei tried to become a confidante.
But this time, Ulu responded with silence.
The silence lasted for several minutes.
Just as Bai Wei thought that the wall in Ulu’s heart was about to rise again, Ulu slowly began to speak, his voice deep, “That kid, he really resembles how I used to be, even the place he lives isn’t much different.”
Bai Wei said nothing, listening quietly.
“My father died when I was very young, and I was raised by my mother, a devout follower of Rhein, which profoundly influenced me. Thus, when the great famine came twenty years ago and my mother fell seriously ill, my first thought was to go to Rhein, and then I met Lu Ji.” Ulu’s body trembled slightly as he was sharply stung by the memories from twenty years ago, “After that, my mother died, and from then on, I was under Lu Ji’s wing… It was then I realized that the Rhein Priests weren’t what I had imagined; they were all scumbags.”
Hearing this, Bai Wei slowly stood up straight again and looked directly at Ulu with those small eyes. “But you became one of them.”
Ulu’s expression suddenly became unnatural, as if he wanted to argue, but he opened his mouth and was unable to speak his objections.
“You think it was Lu Ji who changed you, not that you were always like this, right?” Bai Wei again spoke slowly.
Ulu didn’t hesitate this time and immediately responded, “Of course! If it weren’t for running into that old bastard Lu Ji, if those priests were really like the priests my mother imagined, why would I have become what I am now? Just like that kid, if he had met Lu Ji instead of me, he would have become the same kind of person! Ultimately, it’s not about what kind of person I want to be, but what this world makes me, and no one is an exception!”
Ulu tried to exempt himself from blame, and Bai Wei noticed this but didn’t argue, just casually remarked, “Is that so? That’s an interesting point, I’ll remember it.”
Remembered it?
Ulu felt uneasy hearing Bai Wei’s words, but he couldn’t pinpoint why, so he temporarily pushed it aside.
“It’s already dark; it’s time to head back.”
Ulu glanced at the sky and murmured as he stood up and dusted off his trousers before walking into the town.
Having received Visas’s finger, Ulu felt he hadn’t relaxed all day; whether physically or mentally, his energies were rapidly depleting, and today his heart power also felt brutally slashed.
He didn’t want to think about anything now, just wanted to return to his room and sleep well.
But for some reason, after entering the town, he felt something was odd.
Despite it being a famine year… was this street really so quiet?
Ulu stopped walking, puzzled, and looked around. The dim alleys rustled as if shadows lurked and wandered.
Is it… a rat?
A strong sense of unease surged in Ulu’s heart, prompting him to subconsciously call out to Bai Wei in his mind, “Lord Visas, is there something off here…”
Before he could finish, Bai Wei’s voice faintly echoed, “They have come.”
They… have come?!
Ulu had not yet grasped what this meant when suddenly he felt his left hand grow heavy, and his entire arm forcefully pulled his whole body downward.
Before he could react, he felt several arrows whiz past his scalp, snipping off a few strands of hair before embedding into the wooden wall beside him.
It was then that Ulu realized what was happening and his eyes widened in shock, “This is…”
Before he could finish speaking, several small orbs of light were suddenly thrown from the shadowy alley. Landing at Ulu’s feet, they rapidly burst into blinding beams and loud noise.
With both his sight and hearing under attack, Ulu let out a wail. Meanwhile, two Church Knights took this opportunity to rush in front of him, using the noise from the light beams to cover the buzzing sound of the Holy Swords being unsheathed.
As a civilian staffer, it was natural that Ulu could not match these Church Knights, especially when they were fully prepared.
Unsurprisingly, this battle was about to end quickly.
The two unsheathing knights seemed to foresee Ulu’s head falling to the ground in two seconds.
What they did not know was that two seconds earlier, Ulu had already screamed in his mind, “Lord Visas! Save me!”
Thus, the two unsheathing knights saw “Ulu” suddenly extend his right hand, thumb pointing downward.
Both knights widened their eyes as the Knight Master Kelsay’s prior warnings flashed through their minds.
This was “Taboo No. 24”! @@novelbin@@
Was it really the right thumb?!
Both knights immediately lifted their hands to form seals, chanting simultaneously, “Rhein!”
This was a spell from the Spirit Defense System, capable of resisting any mental disturbances for a very short time. Although they were uncertain of the resistance effect against something like “Taboo No. 24” from the Rule System, just enduring a second or two was enough to determine the outcome of the battle.
However, before the spell could take shape, they heard a crisp snap of fingers.
That nearly completed spell was abruptly canceled at that moment.
This sudden turn of events left both battle-hardened knights somewhat stunned, freezing in the disruption of their spellcasting.
Then, Bai Wei took advantage of their momentary paralysis, grabbed their sword blades with both hands, and slightly altered their attack direction.
Consequently, the two swords straightforwardly penetrated the throats of their bearers.
The two knights stared dully at this so-called civilian staffer, then looked down at his hands, finally realizing the truth.
“It’s not ‘Taboo No. 24,’ it’s ‘Taboo No. 29’…”
“It’s not the thumb, it’s the middle finger…”
“Quick, notify Lord Kelsay…”
Their words were not as fast as the fading of their lives, so before they could finish speaking, their heads drooped, and they were dead.
What do you think?
