Vol 3. Chapter 26: The Arrival of Mist and Clouds
To be precise, the flow of Earth’s veins here is exceptionally peculiar.
Earth’s veins themselves have no shape or solidity, they are merely a network of energy gathering deep underground.
Under normal circumstances, even with Violet’s level 110 perception, it’s challenging to clearly grasp the flow of Earth’s veins hundreds or even thousands of meters below. At most, she can discern differences in strength, as exploration is not her expertise.
But here is different, the energy of Earth’s veins is too strong.
Something has obstructed the Earth’s veins, causing them to converge and accumulate.
It’s like the crater of an erupting volcano.
In a literal sense, it’s “about to erupt.” If this surging energy were to be detonated, it could probably overturn more than half of the Forest of Calamity.
Because the energy concentration is too high, it is not conducive to plant growth, leading to the bare appearance of this area.
“Everyone, step back a bit.”
Although the others didn’t understand what Violet intended to do, they naturally had great confidence in this priestess. Immediately following her orders, they dispersed towards the edge of the abrupt empty space.
The only one who didn’t move was a certain dragon.
“Master?”
Xiao Guang naturally also sensed the unusual situation here. As a dragon, her perception ability far surpassed Violet’s, but she didn’t quite understand her master’s intentions.
But it’s okay, Violet will teach her what to do, just as they have fought side by side countless times before.
“Xiao Guang, use your dragon breath on this spot. Concentrate the energy a bit, be gentle, and don’t let it spread too far,” the black-haired girl pointed to the empty soil beneath her feet.
“Directly blast it? I have no problem with that, but doing so might trigger...”
Violet immediately gestured, stopping the dragon lady from continuing.
They both understood that given the state of the Earth’s veins and the accumulation here, a strong external attack would undoubtedly cause a more terrifying explosion than a simple eruption of the veins.
While Violet and Xiao Guang might be able to withstand such an attack, the others and everything within the inner circle of this forest would be annihilated unless the priestess intervened.
“No need to ask more, trust me.”
“Okay.”
Even though Xiao Guang could imagine the dreadful consequences of such an action, Violet’s command was everything to her. Even if she was asked to sacrifice herself, she wouldn’t hesitate, especially when this thing posed no real threat to them.
If her master chose to do this, there must be a reason, and she only needed to follow orders.
So, in the already darkened forest, the golden-haired girl unfolded her broad platinum wings, revealing dragon traits. She slowly ascended into the sky, heading towards the open space where Violet had already marked. There, she began brewing the destructive and terrifying dragon breath.
The highly destructive white light, gradually gathering in the dragon lady’s mouth, set off intense fluctuations in the already massive energy conglomerate.
Sizzle... Sizzle...
Dark clouds filled the sky, flickering with white lightning, consecutively striking a certain spot in the forest, causing thunderous roars and a vast expanse of fire.
As if in a scene of world-ending catastrophe and the pervasive oppression in the air, all living beings in the forest, except for Violet, including the four legendary figures like Advena, found even breathing becoming somewhat difficult, their faces filled with horror.
Normally, encountering such a calamitous scene would prompt them to turn and run or unleash their utmost efforts to launch a desperate strike against the instigator. However, Violet was still there, and this terrifying scene was caused by her companions.
Therefore, they could barely maintain composure.
For an adult dragon, a single breath was an exceedingly simple feat.
“Roar!”
After a brief buildup, a fiercely bright white aurora, forcefully compressed to only a few meters in width, gushed forth from the formation in front of the golden-haired girl. The surging thunder reached its peak at that moment!
A myriad of thunderclaps resounded, signaling the impending extinction!
This should have been an undeniable fact about to unfold, and even the priestess had raised her artifact, frowning slightly.
However, at this very moment.
The thick mist that vaguely pervaded the air after the numerous calamities died suddenly expanded, pouring out from a crack that seemed to come from an unknown space, as if swarming out of another dimension.
It obscured the sky, veiled the earth, encompassing the entire inner circle of the Forest of Calamity, like gray clouds wrapping up everything. Even the white dragon breath, with its surging electric power, tore through the vast expanse of gray clouds but emerged without any subsequent sound.
However, the dense fog, thick enough to make one unable to see their own hand, reduced visibility to its extreme. Even Violet, relying solely on her vision, could no longer see the distant figures of her teammates.
A notorious figure, bringing countless disasters and fear to the world, the “Southern Calamities” of the Four Disasters.
The “Illusionary Cloud” has appeared.
Violet doesn’t seem surprised by this outcome. Instead, she looks relieved, gently lowering the holy staff in her hand.
“As expected, you can’t let this place be destroyed, Seed... That’s the true reason why ‘Illusionary Cloud’ can appear anywhere.”
Since getting involved and learning various related information about the “Southern Calamities,” Violet has been contemplating why the “Illusionary Cloud” persistently wreaks havoc everywhere each year, leaving traces resembling “Calamities” in various locations.
Even if the “Calamities” are killed, the disaster won’t disappear. Unless purified by special means, it will only transfer to a new host.
What is the significance of these “Calamities,” or rather, what is their essence?
Now, Violet understands.
The “Calamities” are the “Illusionary Cloud,” and they are not the true “Illusionary Cloud,” but they can become the “Illusory Cloud.”
They are all seeds of the “Illusionary Cloud.”
Just like certain plants use birds to spread their offspring across the world.
In this world, there exists a collective consciousness called the “Illusionary Cloud,” along with countless seeds it has given birth to. They are all interconnected, and their total quantity is determined.
Through the seeds scattered throughout the world, this consciousness can actively control any seed to become the “Illusionary Cloud” when necessary. Through consumption, parasitism, and spreading, it makes the “Illusory Cloud” more numerous and stronger.
That’s why the “Illusionary Cloud” can swiftly move without anyone witnessing it, even instantly crossing thousands of miles to return to the Forest of Calamity.
So, the “Illusionary Cloud” is almost impossible to be completely killed because as long as the seeds are not completely eradicated, it will inevitably come back someday.
And where is the consciousness or source that can instantly turn any seed into the “Southern Calamity”?
Right beneath her feet.
Within the Earth’s veins.
The adversary didn’t rely on the power of the Earth’s veins but instead stored the plundered power within the Earth’s veins in some form.
As for why the “Southern Calamity” only activates every spring, it seems to be due to hibernation, preventing the accumulated power from being carried away by the flow of the Earth’s veins.
Now, the remaining question is to find and understand the essence of the “Illusionary Cloud” consciousness.
And...
Violet turned her head to look around.
Defeat the enemy.
Although the dense gray mist, far more concentrated than ordinary “Calamities,” was completely unable to approach her, it severely blocked her line of sight. Not only that, even sound, the transmission of energy, and even the sense of direction became quite chaotic in this mist.
A dozen seconds ago, Xiao Guang should still be above her head, but now, in the sensation conveyed by the contract, the direction is unexpectedly below her feet.
This is what they call “Illusion,” right? Some yet-to-be-understood special law or ability.
What do you think?
