[Vol. 6] Chapter 183: The Beginning of the Grand Gathering
“The [Origin Realm]?”
Hearing Ming Lan mention this term, the expressions of the Spirit Veil Tribe members, including Ming Yue, subtly shifted. Some showed surprise, others deep thought, and the joking atmosphere instantly faded.
Ming Yue paused for a moment, contemplating.
“Wasn’t the [Origin Realm] sealed off not long ago? Even for us, it’s nearly impossible to travel there freely. Could this Violet possibly…”
Ming Lan shook his head, replying calmly.
“She didn’t arrive here through the Spirit Veil Merchant Guild’s channels. And the [Interdimensional Long-Distance Spatial Portal] is the only one of its kind. I just used it to report back to the young lady, and it can’t be reactivated so soon. She likely came here using her own methods, much like that person over 300 years ago.”
“And there’s something else you don’t know. This Violet… I’d already heard of her back when I was working in the [Origin Realm]. Though she’s only been active for just over two years, she’s accomplished feats across the world that can only be described as shocking. She’s demonstrated incredible power, so much so that even the Spirit Veil Merchant Guild’s intelligence network hasn’t been able to uncover her full background. She’s a mystery.”
“But about a year ago, she and her companions left the Ten Thousand Demons Mountains and entered the Holy Empire’s territory. For reasons unknown, she mysteriously vanished. Just as she appeared suddenly, she seemed to evaporate without a trace.”
“Many have been searching for her in secret, but none have succeeded. And now I finally understand. She quietly made her way to the [Ancient Spirit Realm]… though what her purpose might be, I have no idea.”
Ming Yue and the others exchanged glances, their surprise evident.
“And you still let her approach the [Void Prison]? What if she has malicious intentions and releases the sealed destructive forces? We wouldn’t be able to explain that to the higher-ups!”
Ming Lan glanced at his companions, who were now all nodding in hindsight, and his mouth twitched. He couldn’t hold back from launching into a sarcastic tirade.
“Let me ask… who was it that kept shouting through telepathic communication, [No way, no way! This person is a total monster! Can you feel that terrifying aura? Unbelievable! If we go in, we’re basically cannon fodder! We have no choice but to wait and see!] Then, as soon as things were resolved, grabbed everyone and escaped? And now you’re pointing fingers at me?”
“Uh…”
Ming Yue, the Spirit Veil Tribe girl, awkwardly turned her head away. Ming Lan sighed but didn’t seem upset. Instead, he continued in a calm tone.
“Alright, the decision was made collectively after a discussion. No one can shirk responsibility for it. The reason I agreed to wait and see was because I had considered multiple factors.”
“This Violet, while mysterious in origin and immensely powerful, has consistently acted to maintain order, save lives, or prevent disasters. Despite her seemingly carefree attitude, the intelligence gathered by the Spirit Veil Merchant Guild suggests her heart isn’t bad. In fact, her personality is somewhat similar to that of the young lady.”
“Moreover, the two companions traveling with her are also far from ordinary. The girl who seems to be a cat yokai, while I can’t fully discern her background, I can sense the immense, deep-like power within her. As for the silver-haired girl, she’s most likely the newly emerged Western Origin Spirit Maiden, who had appeared not long ago. I simply pretended not to recognize her.”
One of the Spirit Veil Tribe members looked stunned.
“She’s the Spirit Maiden? But why would a Spirit Maiden casually mingle with outsiders? And this generation’s Spirit Maiden should be… Wait, are you saying Violet is actually—!”
Ming Lan shook his head, cutting him off.
“It’s hard to say… very hard to say. The deeper truths behind this are too complicated. Only the [Seven Hidden Stars] were truly involved in the core of the matter. For us, who only know bits and pieces, speculating wildly serves no purpose.”
The fox-eared young man sighed softly again, his thoughts heavy. He lifted his head and gazed at the gradually clearing sky in the distance, as if he had made up his mind.
“Let’s return to the Immortal Island. I need to inform the heads of this matter. The situation here still has room for resolution, but if the upcoming event goes wrong… it could spell disaster for the entire [Ancient Spirit Realm].”
……………………………
Few weeks later, outside Xingyuan City, the capital city of the Eastern Origin Mysterious Kingdom.
The convoy came to a halt, and a group of over ten people climbed down one by one from the wagons loaded with goods. Among them was a black-haired girl in white robes who had clearly grown tired of the monotonous journey. She stretched her arms and muttered in frustration.
“Finally, we’ve arrived. This trip was way too long…”
The middle-aged man in white beside her immediately laughed.
“It’s not too far, Miss Violet. It was just over a thousand miles away. Among the capitals of the Four Nations, this is actually the closest one.”
“What a grand city… Humanity has developed quite well,” remarked Xiao Kong, the catgirl who had been living in seclusion on Peach Blossom Peak. She stood still, holding her pet white cat in her arms, and gazed up at the massive, serpent-like walls sprawling across the plain with a hint of approval.
“Though it doesn’t match the peak of those ancient cities from back then, it’s still impressive. Truly fitting for the capital of a nation.”
“Hehe, thank you for the compliment, Miss Xiao Kong,” the middle-aged man said with a smile. “Now that we’ve arrived at Xingyuan City, I suppose this is where we part ways for now.”
Mu Ze, the leader of the [Shocking God Sect], stepped forward with his disciples and raised a hand to bid farewell to the other group of four, three women and one man.
Violet turned to look at the group that had been traveling with them ever since they left the [Endless Wasteland Sea]. She seemed a little surprised.
“You’re not coming into the city with us?”
Mu Ze smiled warmly and shook his head.
“The [Shocking God Sect]’s base isn’t located inside Xingyuan City. Now that our training is complete, and with the [Four Saints’ Immortal Selection Ceremony] approaching, we need to return to the sect as soon as possible to report back and prepare for the competition. We’ll catch up with you in the city later.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll definitely meet again.”
“Alright then.”
Hearing this, Violet didn’t seem particularly bothered.
Although she had interacted with them quite a bit, and had heard that while inside the [Heaven-Opening Sect] ruins, the [Shocking God Sect] had gone all out to assist Miss Hen, who had been left outside, and had held off those so-called powerful experts trying to force their way in to take a share, Violet felt that they were probably just repaying her for saving them in the past.
Debts repaid, ties loosened. There are no endless gatherings in this world. Parting is only natural.
As the disciples of the [Shocking God Sect] bid their farewells, one in particular stood out. Yanzi, said to be the reincarnation of Xuan Shu from a thousand years ago. She gave Violet a series of subtle winks, but it seemed she wasn’t ready to reveal her true identity, so Violet refrained from saying anything further.
Fate brought them together, and fate now pulled them apart. Before long, the [Shocking God Sect]’s group disappeared into the outskirts of Xingyuan City.
Watching their companions leave, leaving just the four of them once again, Murong Yun couldn’t help but sigh.
“The [Ancient Spirit Realm] is vast and full of powerful figures. Judging by their words, it seems the [Shocking God Sect] will also be participating in the [Four Saints’ Immortal Selection Ceremony]. The scale and level of competition for this event will likely surpass any previous one. It’s not to be underestimated.”
Violet glanced at him with a smirk.
“It’s not like there’s only one slot for the winners. If someone like you, a walking anomaly, can’t make the cut, then they definitely won’t.”
“Alright, we can talk about these trivial things later. It’s time to head into the city. More and more people are gathering here. If we delay any further… we might not even find a place to stay!”
