Chapter 62: 061 The bragging has been busted!
“Old Demon Clan Faction?”
In the private room, Shane muttered the term mentioned by Vivian.
“…”
On the other side, Tielle, Lu Muya, and Merica all seemed to become tense upon hearing this term: one straightened her spine, another swallowed hard, and someone else tightened her facial expression, creating a heavy atmosphere around them.
Seeing this, Shane knew that it definitely wasn’t anything good.
In fact, it was just so.
...
“The so-called Old Demon Clan Faction refers to an extremist faction within the Demon Clan,” Vivian began to explain, as if understanding the confusion in Shane’s heart, “They advocate that the current way of existence for the Demon Clan is quite twisted and no longer pure or orthodox as in the past. They believe that the Demon Clan has lost its true form, so their purpose is to correct this distortion and return the Demon Clan to its original state.”
To others, these words might be puzzling.
But Shane, who already knew the current situation of the Demon Clan, easily understood what it meant.
“Return the Demon Clan to its original state?” Shane curled his lips and said, “That means they believe the Demon Clan shouldn’t be maintaining peace with the Human Race and the Divine Race, right?”
“To put it plainly, yes,” Vivian said with a wry smile, “They believe that the origin of the Demon Clan is the Demon King, and the Human Race and Divine Race are the enemies who defeated their king. After the death of the Demon King, the Demon Clan, in order to survive, groveled at the feet of the Divine Race and Human Race, abandoning their demon pride, all of them traitors. Therefore, they constantly want to restore the Demon Clan to its rightful state, and their hostility towards the Divine Race and Human Race is great.”
Vivian’s explanation reminded Shane of that show-off’s performance.
“Indeed, that guy always seemed to hate everything in this world, as if all humans and their belongings were filthy trash.”
Shane figured out why that guy had shown such an attitude. @@novelbin@@
However…
“That guy?”
Vivian looked puzzled, apparently not understanding the meaning of this adjective.
“Don’t mind the details,” Shane chuckled dryly and said, “So, what is he doing inside Lamijion?”
Shane actually already had an idea of what that person had come here for.
It was quite obvious.
“You saw the portrait he was carrying, didn’t you?” Vivian said, “His purpose is to find the person in the portrait.”
Right, that was that person’s motive.
More precisely, it should be said to be the Old Demon Clan Faction’s motive.
Still, there was one thing Shane truly didn’t understand.
“Why is the Old Demon Clan Faction looking for the person in the portrait?”
That was the real question in Shane’s heart.
Why would those troublemakers, intent on returning the Demon Clan to its true form, go to the lengths of infiltrating the towns of the Human Race, which they loathed and rejected so much, just to find “That Person”?
Combining what “That Person” had once mentioned, Shane felt that there must be some significant hidden agenda.
The rest of the squad thought so too.
“I’ve heard that the Old Demon Clan Faction has always been committed to destroying the balance between the Three Clans, often doing things no different from terrorists, causing many incidents,” Merica said, raising her hand with a sense of alarm, “Could it be that they are also aiming for the same purpose this time, planning to do something in Lamijion?”
“It… It couldn’t be…” Lu Muya also said tremblingly, “Was the celestial phenomenon that appeared yesterday done by the Old Demon Clan Faction?”
Shane’s mouth twitched immediately.
The direction this conversation was taking seemed to be heading towards someone taking the fall for him, didn’t it?
As Shane was thinking this, Vivian gave him an imperceptible glare.
“Currently, the Guild and the Knight Order do indeed lean towards the idea that it was all the work of the Old Demon Clan Faction,” said Vivian with an air of annoyance. “After all, they don’t know that someone went there yesterday to practice their Skills, and the person who taught him lives on a farm nearby.”
“Cough…!” Shane’s eyes bulged, and he couldn’t help but give a violent cough.
“…I thought so, we can’t hide it.” Tielle seemed to have foreseen this outcome and let out a silent sigh.
“Eh?” Lu Muya and Merica tilted their heads, seemingly not grasping the implication behind Vivian’s words at first.
Vivian, still appearing somewhat annoyed, continued explaining as if she had no intention of probing further.
“Currently, the Guild and the Knight Order are still investigating this matter, and the identity of that infiltrator from the Old Demon Clan Faction has been almost confirmed. Unless there are any surprises, it should be one of the three masterminds behind the large-scale assassination incident that happened in the Royal Capital some time ago.”
That’s what Vivian said.
“His name is Killian. He was once part of the Dragon Demon’s forces, one of the Six Great Demons that now lead the Demon Clan, and a courtier to the Violent Dragon—one of Dragon Demon’s top four aides. He reached Level Seventy-seven and was once even valued as a possible candidate for the fifth top aide. That was until ten years ago when he and two other Demon Clan members plotted the massive assassination in the Royal Capital, causing a significant number of Nobles and even members of the Royal Family to perish. After that, he vanished without a trace, and no one knew where he went. It’s unexpected that he would turn up in Lamijion, causing a huge mess among those above.”
As Vivian was saying this, she glanced over at Shane and rolled her eyes, “Such a fearsome figure, yet he was subdued by a Newbie Adventurer of just Level 10 with a so-called self-defense Magic Tool. The Knight Order was shocked, they came to me for confirmation this morning. Rather than seeking to understand the whole story, they seemed more interested in what that powerful Magic Tool was, wondering why such a dangerous Magic Tool was given to a newbie for self-defense.”
Shane nearly broke out in a cold sweat.
This was bad, his bluff had been called.
Not panicked?
Sorry, Shane was freaking out big time.
Without knowing the identity of the other person and without giving a second thought to the plausibility of his bluff, Shane felt he was going to crash and burn.
What Shane didn’t know was that Vivian had already smoothed things over for him.
“In fact, he’s a very promising newcomer, and that Magic Tool isn’t mine—it was given to him by President Riley in the form of sponsorship, to keep him from dying during his newbie phase.”
Vivian had explained it to the Knight Order’s people like this.
Who could blame Vivian for being just Level 50?
If there was a Magic Tool that could subdue someone of Level Seventy-seven, wouldn’t she want to use it herself?
Hence, if she said she had given that Magic Tool, the Knight Order would probably still be skeptical.
So, Vivian simply pushed it onto Riley.
Given Riley’s status, possessing such a powerful Magic Tool wouldn’t seem strange at all, right?
Besides, Riley indeed took great care of promising newbies. Even if giving away such a powerful Magic Tool was a bit extravagant, as long as Riley insisted on this version of events, the Knight Order would have to believe it.
Luckily, Vivian had already discussed it with Riley beforehand, and they both decided to keep Shane’s identity and background a secret, which meant there shouldn’t be any problems on Riley’s end.
Of course, because of this situation, Riley had said this to Vivian.
“Being able to subdue Killian and cause such a celestial phenomenon, I’ve really started to become curious.”
In other words, Shane had been thoroughly marked by the President herself.
All that could be said was, this was the price to pay.
What do you think?
