Chapter 592: Chapter 249: The Impossible Task (Two-in-One Mega Chapter)

Lord Reine finished observing and rode his swift steed ‘Little Black’ down the hillside to the temporary camp of the imperial army ahead. Before he even arrived, he could hear wailing coming from tent after tent.

After passing inspection, Reine entered.

He found that most of the tents were sheltering soldiers of the empire who had been seriously injured in the battle.

At the same time, Reine saw the few town residents who had been rescued from the Fishing Port Town’s ruins.

Reine’s mood sank as he asked a soldier nearby, “Are these just over a dozen survivors from Fishing Port Town?”

“Yes, my lord,” the soldier replied, his expression equally grave.

By the time they arrived, they discovered that the Sea Clan had been utterly despicable, almost completely destroying a small town and some sea creatures were still gnawing on human corpses, a sight too horrible to bear.

As if recalling something, the soldier immediately said, “Oh, my lord, however, the sheriff of Fishing Port Town, Cornett Leyman, luckily survived.”

“Hm? The sheriff of Fishing Port Town? Take me to him,” Reine’s eyes lit up.

He had thought that only a dozen or so survivors were left, meaning the Reiman brothers must have fallen victim to the Blood Curse Naga.

But he hadn’t expected the younger brother to have survived.

That was a piece of good news among the bad.

However, it seemed that because of the severity of his injuries, the bed arranged for Cornett was located towards the inner part of the camp.

As Reine walked into the inner tent, suddenly, he saw a familiar face among the number of beds lying there—the younger of the Reiman brothers—Cornett Leyman.

Cornett’s eyes were closed and his brows were tightly furrowed, his face in pain as if he was recalling something.

Upon closer inspection, Reine noticed that Cornett’s right hand had been cleanly severed at the elbow, and his chest and abdomen were wrapped in thick bandages, on which three distinct dark red bloodstains were apparent, but fortunately, all had missed the heart.

To have survived such injuries was truly fortunate.

“Cornett.”

Hearing this familiar voice, Cornett’s eyes suddenly widened in an expression of disbelief as he turned to look over.

The next second, his eyes reddened, and with a tearful voice, he wailed, “Lord Reine!”

“Lord Reine! My brother is dead! Fishing Port Town is all gone!”

Finding a familiar person to talk to, Cornett’s tears and snot ‘whooshed’ down…

Reine walked over, firmly grasping Cornett’s remaining left hand, comforting him, “Cornett! Recover well.”

For a moment, Cornett cried noisily, and then, he intermittently recounted the events of last night’s sudden attack to Reine.

Only then did Reine learn that last night, Fishing Port Town had been attacked almost completely unguarded, because the combat skill of the Blood Curse Naga was too strong, and the patrolling Night Watchmen couldn’t even raise an alarm before being killed on the spot.

Even when Cornett and his brother joined forces, they could only resist for less than a minute.

His brother Cobert was killed on the spot, and Cornett passed out due to severe injuries.

It was lucky that he had passed out, mistaken by the Blood Curse Naga to be dead as well, which allowed him to narrowly escape with his life.

The death and injury of the Reiman brothers was unexpected for Reine.

Before coming, Reine had thought that even if the Reiman brothers couldn’t win, they should have been able to lead some elite Night Watchmen in a fighting retreat.

But now it seemed, the vast difference in strength made such hope a luxury.

As Cornett’s emotions steadied, he looked at Reine and asked, “Lord Reine, you came this time to…”

“I’m here to undertake a mission in that direction.”

“The seaside?” Cornett’s eyes widened.

Reine nodded.

“Lord, you must be careful, at the seaside, you will surely encounter the Blood Curse Naga. Their strength is truly terrifying.”

Cornett, reliving his encounter, nodded, and fear briefly flickered in his eyes. He fell silent for a while before saying, “Strength! Their strength is simply too great!”

“Just one strike with their Trident pierced through my brother’s steel shield!”

“A second strike sent me flying, and then, with two more stabs, they killed my brother on the spot and left me seriously injured and unconscious!”

“The strength they demonstrated throughout was terrifying!”

Reine nodded, understanding.

That was the overwhelming might of an ancient race.

All tactics, combat skills, meant little when the gap in strength was so large.

In terms of the past, it was a case of ‘brute force overwhelming skill’!

“They are over two and a half meters tall, with robust physiques. I think even a Great Knight wouldn’t necessarily be a match for them in strength.”

“If you encounter them, you must be cautious. As much as possible, use hit-and-run tactics, and never engage two Blood Curse Naga at the same time,” Cornett advised after some thought.

“Thank you, I’ll be careful.”

The Reiman brothers together were Great Knights who, under normal circumstances, could have held their ground.

But in just three or four exchanges, one brother died, and the other was severely injured.

This showed that the description of the ancient Blood Curse Naga in the old texts was not an exaggeration, but rather conservative.

Their strength was overwhelmingly superior to that of humans.

As for how to fight them, normal human Great Knights would indeed need to employ hit-and-run strategies or overwhelm them with numbers, as Cornett had said.

But for himself…

Light flickered in Reine’s eyes, and an eager thrill rose in his heart.
