Chapter 710: Mountain Collapse
Chapter 710: Mountain Collapse
The peaceful and quiet Blue Dragon's Hidden Realm became noisy and lively again with Chu Liang’s appearance. Ever since he obtained the Dragon God's Mark and rested there for six years, the draconic demonic beasts within had become highly attuned to his aura. As soon as they sensed his aura, they knew instantly that their master had returned.
Amid the rumble of the forest, several massive draconic figures leapt forward, eager to approach Chu Liang. However, instead of approaching and calming them, he swiftly moved away, immediately leaving the hidden realm.
He needed to return to Mount Shu as quickly as possible.
With Daoist Cangsheng, the sect leader of the Penglai Supreme Sect, wanting to take his life and the demons of the Far West searching every inch of the world to hunt him down, his current situation could be described as extremely dangerous. He had to return to Mount Shu. He would only feel safe under the protection of his sect leader and esteemed teacher.
Although the Blue Dragon's Hidden Realm was secluded, Chu Liang couldn’t be certain whether Caiyi had left some hidden method on him to track his whereabouts. Taking advantage of this rare moment of freedom, he needed to make full use of it and return to Mount Shu at full speed.
Whoosh!
At present, his fastest speed was using his full strength to ride his sword.
The light of his sword streaked across the sky so fast that it was nearly impossible to follow with the naked eye.
After reaching the seventh realm, traversing the world felt like an entirely new experience—what had once seemed a chaotic mass now appeared clear and defined. When he focused closely, he could even perceive the faint strands between reality and illusion.
Having previously practiced Dimension Compression, Chu Liang had already gained some understanding of the Great Dao of Reality and Illusion. If he could gain some understanding of the Great Dao of Distancelessness, he might achieve the same thousand-mile leaps as those Eminent Ones and travel at the speed of the immortal art Golden Path.
Now that he had stepped into the realms of the Heavenly Gate, his cultivation of the Great Dao would be unlike anything before.
While traveling, part of his divine sense sank into the White Pagoda’s space, and he took another close look at it.
Earlier, when Caiyi mentioned she could tell him how to retrieve the Demon-Suppressing Pagoda, Chu Liang wasn’t even curious.
Aside from the reason that he thought that Cai Yi had been bluffing, the most important reason was that he was almost certain... his White Pagoda was the Demon-Suppressing Pagoda!
Well, at least a part of it was.
If the item was already with him, why would he need her to tell him where to find it?
Chu Liang remembered noticing a small hole in the White Pagoda’s wall when he wore the Crimson Devil Helmet and had wondered how it had come to be. In hindsight, it had likely been caused by the Heaven-Devouring Bug burrowing through.
The rewards he drew from the White Pagoda were always objects, with Tuntun being the exception. Could it be because Tuntun had originated from outside the White Pagoda?
In the past, the Demon-Suppressing Pagoda was focused on suppressing and eradicating the life essence of the demonic creatures within it.
The White Pagoda, however, focused on exchanging the life essence of demonic creatures for rewards.
Chu Liang was uncertain of the changes that had occurred between the two, but the most important thing he should keep in mind was that the things Caiyi said might not necessarily be true.
All matters should be decided after consulting with the higher-ups of the Mount Shu Sect.
A white sword light streaked through the clouds, capturing the attention of children below. They paused in awe, raising their hands and shouting, “Mother, it’s a Sword-Wielding Immortal!”
Timid parents would quickly press their children’s hands down and scold, “Don’t point. Don’t be disrespectful to the immortals.”
As Chu Liang sped along like the wind, he soon caught sight of the distant outline of Mount Shu. With no incidents along the way, Chu Liang felt relieved.
But just as he thought he was safe, something unexpected happened.
Boom!
On the outermost peak of Mount Shu, a powerful surge of shockwaves burst forth from Red Cotton Peak. It was truly earth-shattering!
...
While Chu Liang had been going back and forth with Caiyi, the thunderous voice of Venerable Wen Yuan had already echoed across the Far West, sending shivers through the ranks of the greater demons.
The Great High Priest of the Demon God Temple was the first to step out.
Wearing the golden mask, he soared into the air. His massive figure closed in on Venerable Wen Yuan, Daoist Yan, and Di Nufeng.
He had been channeling his spiritual energy to help Changfeng, the Demon King of the Great Marshlands, fight back the effect of Daoist Cangsheng’s divine technique. The moment he left, Changfeng shivered violently, and the situation rapidly spiraled out of control.
Nevertheless... the Great High Priest had something more important to attend to.
As the Great High Priest stared at Mount Shu's most talented trio in midair, the expression beneath his mask grew somber. The demons had no legendary artifacts, so they couldn’t pose much of a threat to human cultivators at the eighth realm. Only the demon kings of the same cultivation level could fight back.
“We demons have already retreated to the Far West, yet you, being the leader of the Mount Shu Sect, still followed and bullied us! Isn’t that a bit too much?” he questioned with a resonating voice.
Venerable Wen Yuan's gaze sharpened, sensing an intent to stall for time, so he wasted no words.
He replied, “Two of your demon kings have taken a disciple of my sect. What are you plotting? Give Chu Liang back to us immediately, or I will flatten the Far West.”
He gave the Great High Priest no room to maneuver.
“Heh.” The Great High Priest sneered at his harsh words. “If this were the Mount Shu Sect of three thousand years ago, you'd have the confidence to say such things. But with just the few of you now...” @@novelbin@@
He didn’t finish his sentence, but it was clear he had no intention of letting Chu Liang go.
“Then we fight,” Wen Yuan declared without hesitation.
Since the demons were coveting something, they likely wouldn’t harm Chu Liang’s life. But the longer they delayed, the more likely that the demons would have succeeded and this would then make Chu Liang’s situation worse.
Since they couldn’t come to an agreement, a fight would start.
Di Nufeng might have been the most straightforward and aggressive of Mount Shu’s ranks, but she was not the only one. As the sect leader, Wen Yuan had been calm and cautious for years, but that didn’t mean he would hesitate when it was time to act.
Rumble!
With a press of his palm, the Mountain Range of the Seven Kings sank dozens of zhang, and the land for hundreds of li around it exploded violently. The barren ground at the center cracked and collapsed into rubble.
In an instant, it felt as if heaven and earth had been destroyed.
In the blink of an eye, the entire Mountain Range of the Seven Kings, made of black meteoric rock, was lifted into the air. With a flick of Wen Yuan’s fingers, who could say where this massive mountain would land?
“How dare you!” the Great High Priest bellowed.
The Great High Priest’s face was hidden behind his mask, but he sounded furious. The temple on the Mountain Range of the Seven Kings was one of the few sacred places where the demon race worshiped the Demon God. Such disrespect could not be tolerated!
He raised his scepter, and a haunting, horn-like wail rose from deep within his chest.
As his eerie howl echoed, the entire Far West seemed to come alive. Dense demon qi spread, fueling the blood and vitality of every demon who heard it!
It was the Demon-Awakening Melody!
This was the battle music of the demon race, a sound that empowered their warriors and signaled a call to arms. As it echoed, towering pillars of demon qi rose in response.
A presence in the northwest was the first to wake up. It had been asleep for many years, and upon waking, it let out roars that sounded like a yak’s bellow and rumbled like thunder.
“Who dares to invade these lands?!”
This was the Demon King of Mount Thunder.
Hearing this voice, the Great High Priest remained still, but Venerable Wen Yuan’s brows furrowed slightly. With a pinch of his fingers, the Mountain Range of the Seven Kings was sent hurtling forward!
The closest demon territory to the Mountain Range of the Seven Kings was the towering Mount Thunder. Scattered across the hills and desolate plains surrounding it were the descendants of demons, who mostly belonged to the ox demon clan.
In response, Venerable Wen Yuan brought the mountain crashing down, shaking the earth violently. Mount Thunder crumbled under the impact, and any demons who failed to escape in time were swallowed by the collapsing ground!
The Demon King of Mount Thunder, having just awakened, was utterly enraged and let out an earth-shaking howl!
"RAAAAAAAAAAAAR!!!"
What do you think?
