Chapter 830: Sacred White Emperor Sword
Chapter 76: Sacred White Emperor Sword
The Whale-Riding Immortal strode toward the cliff's edge, stopping before a weathered stone stele. Names were carved across it, many nearly worn away by time.
Lin Feng Sect, Yue Tianji.
Mingyue Nunnery, Peijian Ni.
Tiger Gang, Qiao Santai.
Plum Blossom Sect, Ruan Hongmei.
The Heavenly Palace of the Sword Domain was known to few, and fewer still had ever reached this far. Yet, across the years, half the stele had already been filled. Some of those names might have become the legends of the martial world.
The Whale-Riding Immortal glanced over the names and let out a hearty laugh. Using his two fingers like a brush, he wrote his name at the top of the stele.
Mount Shu Sect, Jiang Tiankuo.
Then, laughing loudly, he soared into the sky.
The colossal sword towered high, its hilt vanishing into the heavens. As the Whale-Riding Immortal approached it, he grew larger and larger.
The Whale-Riding Immortal had activated the Form of the Heavens and the Earth!
The power of the immortal art was overwhelming. He grew larger and larger, rising until he reached the very limits of this world. He stopped growing when he hit the maximum size this world could contain
He was now the same height as the sword, but he still needed to use both hands to grab the sword hilt. With a thunderous cry deep from his chest, he roared, "Hrrgh!"
Rumble!
The entire world trembled. Mountains shook, and a terrifying white light erupted from the upper half of the sword. It was the same blinding brilliance as the one outside the Heavenly Palace, but far more deadly. Just a single thread of that light could cut down anyone with slightly weaker cultivation.
The Whale-Riding Immortal raised the Yang Qi Severing Banner, shielding himself from the deadly glow. At the same time, he gave everything he had to pull the sword from the ground. But it remained unmoved, as if it were part of the earth itself.
Whoosh!
After a tense standoff, a sudden crack of thunder tore across the sky. Lightning split it wide open, and a massive rift appeared overhead, revealing ancient stars glowing with the breath of primordial chaos.
It was the night sky of the Divine Ruins.
According to Elder Yin's father, this was a sign. The sword had rejected the Whale-Riding Immortal as its master but acknowledged his strength and opened a way out.
"Let it go!" Elder Yin's father shouted. "It didn't choose you!"
The Whale-Riding Immortal suddenly laughed aloud. "Go on without me! I want to play with it a little longer! Hahahahaha!"
In that moment, he stood tall between the heavens and the earth, overflowing with heroic spirit. It felt as though he had returned to that glorious day decades ago when he was crowned champion of the Assembly of Immortal Sects, radiating boundless brilliance.
Chu Liang understood this wasn't the time to act on impulse. There was no point for them to stay here, and it was impossible to try and convince the Whale-Riding Immortal to give up.
After all the suffering and planning the Whale-Riding Immortal had endured for the sake of finding his wife, there was no way he would walk away with the legendary artifact finally in front of him.
Jiang Yuebai didn't try to stop him either. She stood silently with her eyes filled with worry.
Chu Liang called forth the Lianglong and ushered everyone aboard. Just as he was about to fly out at full speed, the opening of the hidden realm connected this world to the outside. The moment the isolation lifted, he felt something stir deep within his divine soul.
His clone on Mount Shu had been killed! And not just anywhere, but within the Mount Shu Sect's own territory. The one responsible was the sect leader of the Penglai Supreme Sect. The realization hit Chu Liang hard, leaving him in complete shock.
What happened on Mount Shu?
Nevertheless, Chu Liang didn’t have the chance to worry about that
When Lianglong flew past the Whale-Riding Immortal and the colossal sword, the White Pagoda within Chu Liang suddenly quivered violently!
Boom!
The White Pagoda trembled fiercely within his soul, sending him into a sudden wave of dizziness. Since he had been aware of the existence of the White Pagoda, it had never reacted so strongly like this.
It was as if a voice from the ancient primordial wilderness roared beside his ear.
"Sacred White Emperor Sword!"
Rumble!
...
"Chu Liang?" Jiang Yuebai caught his arm as he stumbled. Her voice was filled with worry. "What's wrong?"
"I'm fine," Chu Liang said, tightening his grip on her hand.
His eyes narrowed as he looked ahead. He could sense it—something unusual was about to happen.
It was just as Chu Liang had expected. Just as the echo of that ancient roar faded, the pressure beneath the Whale-Riding Immortal's palms vanished.
With a shout, the Whale-Riding Immortal pulled the giant sword upward.
BOOM!
The air shook with a deafening boom. As the sword was drawn, its massive blade shattered, leaving only the hilt behind. From the hilt, white energy of the chaotic mass surged upward, gleaming with silver like stars scattered in the wind.
The Whale-Riding Immortal blinked, then bellowed, "It's a broken legendary sword! That's the sword soul! Don't let it get away!"
As it turned out, the force governing the Heavenly Palace of the Sword Domain had always been the remnants of the White Emperor Sacred Sword. It possessed the undeniable power of a legendary artifact, perhaps even greater than some of the top ten ranked in the Catalog of the Mortal World's Ten Thousand Treasures. But what kind of being could have shattered such a mighty sword?
With only the hilt and sword soul left, the trials it forged were likely a test to find a worthy wielder. To be acknowledged by a legendary artifact was an extraordinary challenge—one that no one had ever passed. Yet, to be approved by the legendary sword was obviously too big of a challenge, and no one had ever succeeded in all of recorded history.
Given the White Pagoda's violent tremor earlier, Chu Liang could sense that the sacred sword had responded to it. But why did it flee? Was it trying to escape the Whale-Riding Immortal... or was it afraid of the White Pagoda?
After a brief moment of thought, Chu Liang concluded that it couldn't have been the Whale-Riding Immortal the sword feared. It had remained in this realm for countless years to seek a worthy master, striking down the unworthy and yielding to the qualified. There was no logic in it running now.
The chaotic sword soul shot into the sky, using the starry rift that had just opened as its escape route. The Whale-Riding Immortal immediately gave chase, reaching out to grab the swirling mass. But then, the sword soul twisted away, evading him in a flash of light and speeding toward the distant heavens.
"We must stop it!" Elder Yin's father shouted, preparing to move.
"Don't be reckless!" the Sword Emperor shouted as he stopped Elder Yin's father. "That's the soul of a legendary sword. Do you really think people like us can touch it so casually?"
Even though the sword had no corporeal form, it could slice Elder Yin's father in half with just the residual force of its aura. And so, stopping it recklessly would be very dangerous. That swirling chaos, intangible as it seemed, was laced with terrifying spiritual power and dense Dao essence.
"Everyone, hang on tight!" Chu Liang suddenly shouted.
"What?" The group looked at him in surprise.
Then it happened.
Boom!
Chu Liang was the first to vanish.
The rest of the group was thrown from the airship as explosions followed in rapid bursts.
Boom boom boom!
The now-empty Lianglong surged forward at a suicidal speed, slamming into the chaotic mass in front of the sword soul with unstoppable force.
BOOM!
That impact finally caused the chaotic mass to falter for just a moment.
Hovering in midair, Chu Liang smiled faintly.
That was the airship he had poured an enormous number of spirit stones into. It had once destroyed a seventh-realm demonic beast with a self-detonation. And now, after multiple upgrades and refinements, its power had only increased. Just how much more powerful, even Chu Liang wasn't sure as he had never dared to test it.
It was a strike worth more than a grand immortal sect. It was powerful enough to make even the sword soul of a legendary artifact tremble, if only for a moment!
The Whale-Riding Immortal quickly caught up. With one palm pressed down, he attempted to suppress the sword soul, which surged with terrifying spiritual energy. The two forces clashed in a brief, intense deadlock.
At that very moment, Chu Liang felt a sudden warmth from within his robes and a beam of green light then burst forth.
It's the bronze talisman?
It was the object he had found in the Jiuli Hidden Realm, the remnant of a giant bronze city that survived the heavenly tribulation. It was said to be a material worthy of forging a legendary artifact... and now, it had flown out on its own.
Whoosh!
The green light merged into the chaotic energy, and everything stopped for a breath before the energy started to roil and surge with violent intensity.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
A series of deafening explosions ripped through the heavens and the earth. Hues of bronze and flame devoured the sword soul's chaotic glow, and within moments, it began to take on a faint shape.
Everyone stared in stunned silence. None of them could fully grasp what they were seeing. But that shape... it looked like... a ship?
What do you think?
