Volume 13 Chapter 29: Working Together
The day of the dungeon exploration had arrived. Keith and the others wore the equipment and headed out. Keith smiled as he waved, "Good luck, everyone! Make sure to be careful." Depending on who was in the party, they got a different dungeon.
Sarah asked her group, “Is everyone ready for today?” She tried to do some small talk to lighten up the mood.
"If we're not ready, it'll be a problem." Calia scoffed.
"...I see." Sarah nodded as they quickly entered the dungeon. It was filled to the brim with different types of trees and other grass-themed items. Sarah then stated, “We should be careful going forward.”
“Why?” Reven’s eyes narrowed.
Sarah explained, "We're going to be facing monsters above us." Before Calia could comment, a spear flew down at the team! Coen quickly moved his shield to intercept!
“Quickly move!”
“Don’t tell us what to do!” “Yeah!” The two growled as they stared at Coen, continuing to block the spears raining down.
“Just do it!” Sarah shouted. The others grumbled before they sliced the spears before them as they fled from the trees. The spears continued to fly down as they tried to run away. It only stopped after they had arrived in the open field. Sarah quickly cast her healing magic on them; those spears did land on some parts of their body.
“What in the world was all of that?!” Reven shouted. He couldn't believe there were so many monsters going after them. Spears raining down was something no one expected.
“Be quiet, or do you want to attract more monsters?” Sarah frowned. That was enough to silence Reven; he knew not to say anything since facing those huge spears. However, his expression said he wanted to say more.
"Look, we won't be able to head down if we're like this." The way the group was now, there was no way they could go forward.
“If we’re going to fight, we must work as a coordinated group.” Sarah stated, “We can’t keep doing things out of line.” She was talking about those two.
"You don't have to like me. But we all share the same goal." A good grade on the practical. She wasn't looking to make friends; she wanted to pass this practical.
“…” The three didn’t say anything, but their silence was enough to get the picture. At the end of the day, they were still students. Whatever they did, they would need to make it work, or they would lose.
"Understood." "Yes."
"Calia, ensure you don't fire so many arrows from the get-go." She stood in the far back and watched everything going down.
"But there's-"
"I know you want to deal with the monsters; you need to watch our team as well." Firing at monsters was second nature. However, it would whittle her supply down.
"Understood."
Sarah nodded, “Good, then I’m going to explain our strategy; I was thinking about a hit-and-run strategy.”
“Hit and run strategy?”
...
While that happened, Tennol and the others watched from their base camp.
"Ahh, these kids are doing quite well."
"Indeed."
"We really don't need to look at the students from S-class." Having one of them at the party made things a cakewalk.
"Wait a moment, you should check out this party."
....
Slowly, as days passed, Sarah's group made it to the boss's floor. Fighting with one another for some time, they understood what to do. A blitz from the start! As they attacked the boss, it didn't go down! Instead, it stood right back up and was prepared to fight again. However, Coen was already out of its way. That was when the others started to attack.
Good. Sarah nodded as she watched all of this go down.
“We’re not the strongest group out there.” Their team didn’t have the highest firepower. A crazy ace like Gabriel and Keith or a bomber mage like Carolyn and Alfia who could take care of a monster in one move.
“But we’re pretty mobile.” Unlike the normal tank that would guard the attack, Coen is more of a mobile tank. That was something she had realized. And the others were pretty athletic as well. That was why,
“We’ll do hit-and-run tactics.”
“Are you sure?”
"It's an easy method since we have more durable members." She was correct; the monsters were slowly dwindling due to this tactic. Even against the boss, it didn't have multiple eyes to spot every blind spot.
Reven shouted, “Everyone, back off!”
However, the monster was too fast, and they were injured. That was when a wave of mist had landed on all of them. It was not the end as a mist slowly surrounded the beast, causing it to be difficult to find them. And the other three continued their hit-and-run tactics till they were finished. It was quite something.
“We did it!” Everyone cheered as they quickly headed out of the dungeon. And that was when they saw a professor there, “Good, another team is finished. Please return to the lobby for you to get it done.”
“Understood!” The others nodded.
“We passed!” Calia cheered, “That was a good job, Sarah.”
“We did really well together.” This was not a one-person thing; this was a group effort.”
“That last attack was something.” Reven smiled, “To blind the person in the mist was a smart move.”
“Thank you.”
What do you think?
