A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality: Immortal Realm

Chapter 1254: Face of Dreams

Chapter 1254: Face of Dreams

As the mirror shattered, an unnatural flush appeared on the woman's face, and she threw up a small mouthful of blood, following which her complexion turned deathly pale, indicating that she had sustained internal injuries from the damage to her bonded immortal treasure.

However, she didn't even bother to spare the mirror a glance as she reached out with her right hand, releasing a burst of dark red light to capture the five-colored vial and draw it into her grasp.

Chi Meng and Huo Yuan were furious to see this, and both of them made a string of hand seals to send nine fiery dragons and a vast torrent of purple lightning crashing down upon her from all directions.

Having already suffered severe internal injuries, the woman's legs involuntarily gave out from under her in the face of the immense pressure weighing down upon her, but she was still tightly clutching the five-colored vial in her right hand.

Wu Yang and Wyrm 3's expressions changed drastically at the sight of the dire situation that she was in, and they frantically flew toward the entrance of the palace to try and save her, but they were clearly too far away.

The veiled hat on her head had already been sent flying, fully exposing her face, and there was a look of despair in her eyes as she gazed up at the oncoming attacks.

Right at this moment, Han Li abruptly appeared before her amid a burst of spatial fluctuations, and with a sweep of his sleeve, a burst of golden light was released before flying through the air to settle above the woman's head.

From there, the golden light transformed into a golden cloud with countless runes dancing within it, encompassing both Han Li and the woman inside.

Everyone was very much taken aback by this turn of events, and immediately thereafter, the golden cloud was inundated by the fiery dragon and the torrent of lightning.

A deafening commotion rang out as all of the space within a radius of several hundred feet was torn apart, creating countless criss-crossing spatial rifts, while the surrounding world's origin qi also churned violently.

The entire palace swayed and quaked, while the golden light emanating from the walls and the ground flickered erratically, looking as if it could collapse at any moment.

A long while later, the storm of destruction finally subsided, and all of the spatial rifts quickly closed.

As the dust settled, it was revealed that the golden cloud had been reduced significantly in size, but it remained as intact and resolute as ever, much to the incredulity of Chi Meng and Huo Yuan.

They had gone all-out in that previous barrage of attacks, yet somehow, they hadn't even been able to breach that thin, golden cloud.

Right at this moment, two high-pitched shrieks rang out as two streaks of golden light abruptly shot forth toward Chi Meng and Huo Yuan, both of whom hurriedly sprang back in retreat in an alarmed manner.

The streaks of golden light made no effort to pursue them, immediately flying back to Wu Yang before vanishing up his sleeve, following which he descended near the golden cloud in the blink of an eye.

Wyrm 3, Lu Chuanfeng, and Shi Kongmo also arrived on the scene, forming a protective encirclement around the golden cloud.

Han Li swept a sleeve through the air to withdraw the golden cloud, and despite all of the people around him, his gaze was fully focused on the woman beside him.

"Wan'er..."

His usual, composed facade had completely disintegrated, leaving him looking dazed and vulnerable.

This was a face that he had seen countless times in his dreams, and it had become even more heartbreakingly beautiful than before.

In this moment, his mind was completely blank, and the only thing occupying it was the woman before him. He was overcome by the urge to reach out and cradle her in the palms of his hands, but he was also afraid that she would disappear at his touch, like a reflection in a pond of water.

An unprecedented emotion welled up in Han Li's heart, and all of a sudden, a certain bottleneck was shattered as his mental state evolved to a new level.

"Wan'er? Are you talking to me? Thank you for saving my life, but my name is Rushuang, not Wan'er," the woman said with a rather displeased expression at the sight of Han Li's blatant ogling, then rose to her feet and promptly devoured a red pill.

"Rushuang?"

Han Li was completely rooted to the spot upon hearing this.

"Thank you for saving Sister Rushuang, Fellow Daoist Han. What are you doing here?" Wyrm 3 asked, and she could also see that Han Li's behavior was rather abnormal.

Han Li took a glance at Wyrm 3, but offered no response to her question as he turned his gaze back to the self-proclaimed Rushuang.

A hint of disdain appeared on the woman's face as she ducked behind Wu Yang to avoid Han Li's gaze.

A twinge of pain spasmed through Han Li's heart upon seeing this, and he glowered at Wu Yang as his hands balled up into tight fists.

He was certain that there was no way he would mistake someone else for Nangong Wan.

He didn't know what Nangong Wan was doing here, how she had become a member of the Reincarnation Palace, or how she had already reached the Great Encompassment Stage, but he was confident that it was her.

Wu Yang's brows furrowed slightly at the sight of Han Li's hostile gaze, and he urged, "Now's not the time to be standing around, we have to go!"

However, as soon as his voice trailed off, the gates of the palace suddenly swung shut, sealing everyone inside.

Alarmed looks appeared on everyone's faces upon seeing this.

Chi Meng was situated closest to the gates, and she immediately made a hand seal, conjuring up a giant, fiery, crimson sword that struck the gates with tremendous power.

The fiery sword exploded into a crimson mushroom cloud, and the fire law powers imbued within erupted outward in a frenzy to try and blow the gates open.

A layer of golden light instantly surfaced over the gates, while the crimson mushroom cloud quickly faded away, and the gates were completely unscathed.

Chi Meng's expression instantly darkened slightly upon seeing this.

"The restrictions on those gates were personally set up by our patriarch. They take a long time to activate each time, but once they're activated, this palace may as well be an indestructible cage," Daoist Master Chun Jun declared with a cold smile as he swept an emotionless gaze over everyone present.

At this moment, Yang Junzi and Daoist Master Lei Jun were standing behind him, with each of them holding a shimmering, golden tablet that was giving off waves of golden light.

The entire interior of the palace had also been enshrouded in a layer of golden light.

At this point, Han Li had already managed to compose himself, and a look of realization appeared on his face as he cast his gaze toward Yang Junzi and Daoist Master Lei Jun.

No wonder the two of them had remained inside the array this entire time, their true objective had always been to activate the restrictions in the palace.

Judging from the effect that Chi Meng's attack had on the restrictions, or lack thereof, they were clearly extremely formidable.

Furthermore...

Han Li took a glance up at the ceiling with slightly furrowed brows.

As soon as he entered the palace, he had detected that the entire structure was enshrouded within a burst of invisible force, severely restricting one's ability to wield law powers.

This was most likely why Wu Yang and the others had only been able to conjure up such small spirit domains unbefitting of their Great Encompassment Stage cultivation bases.

With the restrictions in the palace activated, the restrictive force in the air had become even more potent, and this was undoubtedly going to be severely limiting on their powers.

Wu Yang and the others were looking around with grim expressions, while Shi Kongmo remained as casual and aloof as ever.

Daoist Master Chun Jun's gaze lingered on Han Li and the others for a moment, then shifted to Lu Chuanfeng as he demanded, "Lu Chuanfeng, how has the Reincarnation Palace convinced you betray the Heavenly Court and kill Immortal Envoy Feng Tian?"

"They didn't have to do any convincing, I've always been a member of the Reincarnation Palace to begin with," Lu Chuanfeng replied with a faint smile.

A surprised look appeared on Daoist Master Chun Jun's face upon hearing this, but it was then replaced by a cold sneer as he said, "I didn't think that the influence of the Reincarnation Palace would stretch so far and wide. I won't allow a single one of you to leave this place alive!"

"If you have what it takes, you're free to claim my head as you please!" Lu Chuanfeng chortled.

Daoist Master Chun Jun gave a cold harrumph, then turned to Chi Meng and Huo Yuan as he asked, "And what are you two doing here? Could it be that you also have ties with the Reincarnation Palace?"

"Of course not, Abbot Chun Jun. Mountain Master Huo and I only intervened because that vial was about to fall into the grasp of those Reincarnation Palace swine. We have not come here with any ill intentions," Chi Meng replied with a smile.
