Chapter 278 - 53: What Should Not Exist, Shall Eventually Perish_2
"You think you can hurt me with this rabble? Haha, you’re underestimating me," Xu Lie laughed at Xu Lie’s shadow. "I’ll handle the small fries; you go after that guy."
Who knew Xu Lie’s shadow wouldn’t take orders, "Summoned creatures start with two hundred percent aggro, I must kill them before I can deal with that guy." After saying this, he charged at the four Divine Weapons.
Zhang Haojie was delighted to see this, thinking Xu Lie’s shadow was quite rule-abiding. Taking advantage of the fact that the shadow was distracted by the aggro from the four Divine Weapons, he spurred his horse and rushed toward Xu Lie, thinking he must quickly dispatch Xu Lie while he could.
However, four Divine Weapons were no match for a boss at taking hits. Zhang Haojie had just drained three to four hundred of Xu Lie’s health points when suddenly, with two muffled thuds, two of the Divine Weapons were destroyed, turning into golden smoke and disappearing.
"Damn, they go down that easy?" Zhang Haojie’s heart turned cold, (Crap, am I going to die here? Looks like I have no choice but to use that move.)
Zhang Haojie watched as the other two Divine Weapons were also slain, and Xu Lie’s shadow turned his steed around, bearing down on him again. He steeled himself, knowing the move he was about to use was costly and even life-threatening. He wouldn’t dare to use it unless it was absolutely necessary, but now he had no choice. Just then, there was a crackle in the sky, and before he could react, boom!
A bolt of lightning struck down between him and Xu Lie’s shadow. The force of the impact made him stagger back several steps before stopping. Xu Lie, being closer, was blown away by the blast.

The attack was unexpected, and Zhang Haojie was stunned for a moment before noticing that there was someone standing where the lightning had struck—the healer, who else?
Xiao Buli? What was this guy’s story? As he stood there in confusion, Xiao Buli had already soared into the air again.
In the instant when he had landed, he had calculated the distance to Xu Lie—twelve meters.
After launching into the air, he made a small adjustment and drifted exactly twelve meters away, then fell once more.
Boom! This time he landed squarely on Xu Lie.
-682. A large red number floated up. Xiao Buli thought to himself that the move was indeed powerful, but he didn’t dare stop there. Xu Lie still had two to three thousand health points; this attack wouldn’t kill him.
Cloud Thunder Leap! A bolt of lightning struck like a thunder shock from a clear sky, and Xiao Buli soared into the heavens once again. This time there was no need for lateral movement. Without a moment’s hesitation, he clicked to fall again.
As Xu Lie was trying to get up, the second bolt of lightning struck him squarely, charring his entire body.
-983.
This blow was even more severe, reducing his remaining health points to less than a thousand.
Seeing Xiao Buli take flight once again, Xu Lie finally reacted. He scrambled away, and the third bolt of lightning struck down to no avail. Xiao Buli made some adjustments but still missed. However, the explosion sent Xu Lie flying again, bringing him On the Verge of Death.
Xiao Buli didn’t use Cloud Thunder Leap again. Firstly, because the True Origin Points it consumed were indeed too much, and secondly, because the opponent was on guard now, another strike would likely miss anyway. After landing, he directly unleashed Mysterious Ice Slash. Since Xu Lie had lost his ability to move quickly, he was perfectly frozen.
With the deep freeze triggered, Xiao Buli watched as Xu Lie turned into a block of ice, then charged with his sword ready. @@novelbin@@
He was about to launch a powerful spell when Xu Lie couldn’t wait any longer and cried out, "Don’t kill me, I don’t want to die."
Xiao Buli hesitated for a moment when Xu Lie’s shadow suddenly charged over, slashing and dragging out a residual image.
Xiao Buli hastily retreated with Shadow Clone; he had no intention of taking hits like Zhang Haojie. With less than four hundred health points and low Armor, he couldn’t afford to take a direct attack.
Xu Lie’s shadow, who was now between them, didn’t attack again. Instead, he said indifferently to Xu Lie, "Don’t forget who you are, how can you beg for mercy."
"Damn it, why wouldn’t I beg for mercy if I’m about to die? Don’t forget, if I die, you won’t survive either," Xu Lie retorted.
Xu Lie’s shadow spoke indifferently, "Although I don’t want to die, there’s nothing I can do if it’s Heavenly Dao’s will."
"What do you mean, ’there’s no way’? Aren’t they just after the equipment? If worse comes to worst, just hand it over to them. It’s better to live than anything else."
However, Xu Lie’s Shadow seemed unmoved. "Hmph, can you give them the equipment? I’d like to see that."
"Why can’t I! Today, I really will hand it over." As Xu Lie said this, he actually threw the weapon in his hand towards Xiao Buli. Xiao Buli looked and was immediately stunned, but he wouldn’t pass up a free offer, so he went to pick it up. However, despite clicking for ages with his mouse, he couldn’t pick it up at all.
"See? The equipment of a BOSS can’t be picked up unless you’re dead. There’s a certain chance they could find it on your corpse."
Xu Lie was dumbfounded. "Damn, what kind of rule is that? You can’t play me like this. Do I really have to die today?"
Yet Xu Lie’s Shadow still spoke indifferently, "Rules are rules. I’ve said it before, the will of the Heavenly Dao must not be defied. Anyone who goes against the Heavenly Dao will not be tolerated by this world. You should not surrender; better to fight till death. Don’t worry, I will do my best to protect you, after all, this is also what the Heavenly Dao demands."
Xu Lie was both anxious and angry. He said to Xiao Buli and Zhang Haojie: "Don’t listen to him. Don’t kill me; I’m willing to surrender. Whatever you want me to do, I’ll do it. I can help you kill the monsters, okay?"
Zhang Haojie said, "Then make your subordinates surrender."
Xu Lie nodded repeatedly. He was only left with a sliver of health, a couple more hits and he would be done for. There was no way he could survive if it really came down to a fight to the death. Survival instincts overwhelmed everything else at this point.
"All of you, drop your weapons and surrender, fast!"
But the Black Mountain Bandits showed no reaction whatsoever; they kept charging at the fortress walls and clashed with the militia.
"It’s no use. Did you think everyone’s like you, not abiding by the rules? The rule is, if you die, they might disperse and even surrender, but as long as you’re alive, they will fight to the death, until you die." Xu Lie’s Shadow’s words were like a death curse. Xu Lie, with his face full of rage, "You bastard, wishing so badly for my death? I’ll kill you first!"
Immediately, he lunged at Xu Lie’s Shadow. Xu Lie’s Shadow did not dodge or evade, and took the hit squarely. Xu Lie lunged right through and found nothing when he stood up again.
"Eh, where’d it go?"
"You want to kill me? Hehe, I am you, and you are me. Killing me is easy, all you have to do is end yourself."
That voice echoed in his mind, leaving Xu Lie speechless, {What in the world is going on?}
Suddenly, the sound of horse hooves came from behind. When he turned around, a sword and a spear were thrust at him simultaneously.
He saw a vision of blood-red. Xu Lie felt himself growing lighter, his consciousness blurring, as if he were gradually fading away.
"What exactly is it?" he asked the voice in his mind.
"I’ve told you before, I am you, you are me."
Xu Lie grew frantic, "If we are one and the same, why do you want to kill me? Aren’t you afraid of dying?"
Xu Lie’s Shadow replied, "I adhere to the Heavenly Dao, and the heavens will take care of me. Even if I die, I can be resurrected. But you won’t have that chance. Whatever should not exist will ultimately not persist."
Xu Lie wanted to ask more, but his consciousness had already lost the capacity to think and eventually faded away completely.
PS: Recently, many readers have expressed concerns about the loss of tension in the book. Alright, I admit that there has been this issue recently. But don’t worry, things will get tense soon enough—I’ll give a little spoiler—this book will turn quite dark later on. (To be continued.
