Accidentally Married to the Big Shot

Chapter 24 - 24 How to Hold Him?

Chapter 24: Chapter 24 How to Hold Him?

Li Pingping was being indiscreet by bringing up sensitive topics, causing several doctors to give her warning looks, asking her to drop the subject.

Su Meixi also remained silent, unsure of what to say.

She remembered Gu Wei mentioning that it was Gu Cheng who had helped, and since Gu Cheng was a corporate executive, it made sense that he knew some PR firms.

However, she couldn’t explain that to them without sounding like she was bragging.

Li Pingping was persistent, “Dr. Su, why don’t you introduce us to that impressive person? Maybe next time we encounter such a situation, we could also ask for your help. We often have medical disputes, right?”

The other doctors couldn’t stand it anymore and finally spoke up.

“Dr. Li, please let it go. No matter how powerful a PR company is, one needs a clean record.”

“Dr. Su has just resolved her issue; let’s not bring it up again and cause her pain.”

“Dr. Su knows someone powerful—that’s her capability. If you want to know such people, you need your own capabilities.”

Only then did Li Pingping reluctantly shut her mouth.

Gu Group.

Gu Wei and his brother Gu Cheng were also preparing for lunch.

The CEO’s office had a private kitchen with chefs who could prepare various styles of dishes.

Just as they were about to eat, Gu Wei’s phone rang.

He glanced at the caller ID, then said to Gu Cheng, “It’s our mom. I don’t know which old bird blabbed, but she called right after I got to the office.”

Since it involved their common mother, there was no need for secrecy; Gu Wei switched the call to speakerphone.

From the other end, Qiu Yurou’s voice was stern, “Gu Wei, are you back in Feng City?”

“Yes, Mom.”

“Why did you suddenly come back? Are you injured? Where are you hurt now? You really make it hard for people to have peace of mind.” Qiu Yurou was strict.

Gu Wei replied, “I’m not hurt anywhere; just came back for a vacation.”

“Who are you fooling? I’ve been telling you to leave the army earlier, but you never listen, always getting hurt here and there.”

“Really, I’m not injured.”

Qiu Yurou suddenly changed the subject, “By the way, Gu Wei, I met a girl abroad. She’s from Hua Country, a 26-year-old student; I think she’s quite compatible with you. I am planning to introduce her to you, add her on WeChat later.”

Gu Wei hurriedly responded, “Mom, you don’t need to introduce anyone to me; introduce her to my brother instead since he’s not yet married. Why would it be my turn?”

“Your brother?” Qiu Yurou chuckled coldly, “To expect him to marry is like expecting pigs to climb trees, the impossibility for iron trees to bloom, for age-old rocks to sprout!”

Gu Cheng chimed in from the side, “Mom, I’m here.”

Qiu Yurou didn’t mince words, “I would say the same even if you were here. I’d have more hope for your brother getting married than you.”

Gu Cheng tentatively asked, “Mom, maybe my brother already has a girlfriend?”

“No way. It was agreed that no matter what girlfriend he has, she must pass my approval.”

Gu Cheng shrugged at Gu Wei.

Gu Wei said, “Mom, I’ve got to go, my brother and I are about to have lunch. Have fun traveling abroad.”

“Who has time for fun? I am not traveling for leisure but managing an overseas branch for your brother.”

After hanging up, Gu Cheng looked at Gu Wei sympathetically, “You see, that’s how our mom is. Your relationship with Ah Xi has to be kept secret for now. I’ve already pulled some strings to hide your marital status; no one can find out you both are husband and wife for now.”

“Thanks, brother,” Gu Wei sighed helplessly.

His mother had not allowed Gu Wei to join the military, fearing she might lose him like she lost their father early.

However, Gu Wei had stubbornly joined the army behind her back, which infuriated her.

Since then, Qiu Yurou had made a rule: he could join the army, but when it came to marriage, he must follow her arrangements. Gu Wei had agreed at the time.

Seeing Gu Wei’s downcast expression, Gu Cheng advised, “Considering mom lost her husband at a young age, don’t be too hard on her, just find the right opportunity to tell her.”

“I understand.”

Soon after, the chef served the dishes.

Gu Cheng pushed Gu Wei’s favorite dishes toward him and served him a bowl of sea cucumber soup, then asked, “Ah Xi dealt with her issues yesterday. I hope she wasn’t too upset?”

“She wasn’t, she cried last night and felt much better; she went to work today.” Gu Wei lost his appetite as he mentioned Su Meixi.

“Big brother, I think… women are really hard to figure out. I often can’t guess what Ah Xi is thinking. She seems so inconsistent.”

Gu Cheng just smiled lightly, “Don’t try to guess a woman’s mind. No matter how much you guess, you won’t figure it out. What women need most beside security is companionship. Try to spend more time with her when you can.”

“Companionship?”

“It’s not just about being there; you also need to spice things up a bit.” Gu Cheng raised his eyebrows, thinking his brother would understand.

Gu Wei nodded, indicating he understood.

Su Meixi was in a good mood today.

After dinner, she noticed Gu Wei working on his laptop in the living room.

She wasn’t familiar with military stuff and, seeing Gu Wei’s robust build, assumed he must be better at physical tasks rather than at computers.

To her surprise, he seemed very skilled with the computer, and the screen displayed sophisticated software she couldn’t comprehend.

Seeing Su Meixi approach, Gu Wei stopped working and looked at her.

“Am I… interrupting you?” Su Meixi asked.

“Of course not, I’m not doing anything official, just helping my older brother with some work.” In Gu Wei’s eyes, only military work was considered real work; tasks for Gu Group didn’t count.

Out of curiosity, Su Meixi asked, “You also do your brother’s work?”

“He’s an executive in the company. He oversees a department that is working on life detection devices; they needed my help with some technical issues,” Gu Wei explained.

Su Meixi’s curiosity intensified, she walked over and asked, “Can I see what you’re working on?”

“Of course.”

She leaned closer to him, her head nearing the screen.

Her hair was medium-length, soft, and dense; as she looked at the monitor, her hair tips brushed against his arm, tickling him and carrying the scent of her shampoo. @@novelbin@@

Gu Wei couldn’t help but swallow hard.

After a while, she awkwardly shook her head, “I don’t understand this at all.”

“This software is quite specialized, and involves advanced mathematics,” Gu Wei explained.

Su Meixi looked at him with admiration, “That’s pretty impressive, do you handle the technical stuff at your unit?”

“Occasionally,” Gu Wei said.

Realizing he didn’t seem eager to share, Su Meixi thought maybe his unit was of a special nature, not everything could be discussed publicly, so she decided not to probe further.

Then she remembered she hadn’t hugged Gu Wei today. If she didn’t, she worried he might not sleep well tonight.

But she couldn’t just go and hug him, right? That would be too direct.

Maybe practice some martial arts?

No, too sore from last night’s extended session.

Seeing Su Meixi standing by his side, not moving, Gu Wei thought it was a good time to discuss his plans.

“Ah Xi…”

Before he could start, Su Meixi suddenly collapsed onto him.
