Chapter 79: Chapter 79: The Final Farewell

Su Meixi knew that a wise person did not suffer immediate losses, so accepting the WeChat request was fine, as she could simply delete it later.

She pulled up the QR code from the car window and added him on WeChat without changing her expression.

After adding him on WeChat, she slid her phone into her coat pocket and promptly started the minivan.

Seeing this, the two men also started their motorcycles and followed.

The gas station attendants, sensing things were going south, dialed an emergency number once they left.

...

By now, Su Meixi was driving very fast; however, Ma Zi and Scar were also speeding, their motorcycles had been modified, and it didn’t take long for them to pull up beside her.

One of them shouted from either side, “Miss, why are you driving so fast? This road is very dangerous, you know.”

“Actually, we’ve had our eye on you for a while. Don’t go so quickly, let’s be friends!”

At this point, Su Meixi didn’t want to waste words with them; she floored the gas pedal.

Fortunately, the four wheels were not weak, and with the snow, the minivan quickly put some distance between them.

She dared not relax and continued to floor the gas pedal, speeding down the road.

However, on a steep slope, the minivan suddenly lost power, inexplicably stalling out. If she hadn’t held onto the steering wheel, she would have crashed into a nearby hill.

Su Meixi cursed inwardly: Why did it have to break down now, of all times?

She tried the ignition several times, to no avail.

Staying in the vehicle would surely mean waiting for death.

She heard the roar of the modified motorcycles behind her and, without a second thought, immediately jumped out of the car.

She ran toward the hillside.

She heard the motorcycles stop, then start heading in her direction.

Damn, she had forgotten that motorcycles could maneuver between the hills.

But luckily, there were many hills around, so she just ran towards the more complicated terrain.

The snow was deep, making the journey difficult. Every step she took left a footprint, and she cursed herself for being so stupid while running.

It was over, this time the odds were truly against her.

These two didn’t look like pushovers. If they decided to rape and then kill her, this would be where her life ended.

As she ran, she felt her smartphone shaking in the pocket of her down jacket, so she took it out while still moving.

She dialed 110, but there was no signal.

Unable to run any further, Su Meixi found a hillside to hide behind.@@novelbin@@

She didn’t indulge in wishful thinking; in the snow, as soon as one stepped on a footprint, those two would be able to find her.

She grabbed her phone again.

In that moment, she thought of so many people: the parents she yearned for as a child, but whose affection cooled later on when she no longer longed for them.

Bi Yuanhang, whom she had a crush on during her youth, but whom she had forgotten after his sudden disappearance.

Then various colleagues from different places, and finally… Gu Wei.

If she were to leave this world, she would have to confess to one person, and that person would definitely be Gu Wei.

Her hands, trembling and on the verge of freezing, she turned on her phone’s camera.

Snowflakes fell all around her, but she had no idea what she wanted to say to him.

After a while, when she heard some noise nearby, she rushed to record a video, “Gu Wei, that day you asked me if I had ever had feelings for you. I said never, but I was actually lying. Please forgive my cowardice. Living with you, I felt incredibly safe. If there’s an afterlife, I’ll be brave for once.”

Having said that, she placed her phone in a concealed spot and continued to let the camera roll.

If something were to happen to her, the camera would record her final moments.

In no time, Ma Zi and Scar arrived.

They found her.

Ma Zi asked with a laugh, “Pretty girl, why are you running?”

Su Meixi asked, “What do you want to do?”

Scar chuckled, “It’s too cold here, come on back to your car with us.”

Su Meixi stood up without responding to him.

Ma Zi came over to pull her, but as soon as his hand touched her shoulder, she struck him in the abdomen with self-defense maneuvers.

She kicked him again.

Ma Zi howled in pain as he lay in the snow.

Seeing this, Scar cursed, “You filthy woman, you’ve got some tricks up your sleeve, alright, let me take you on.”

Scar swung his fists towards her.

Su Meixi blocked several moves.

By that time, Ma Zi had recovered and charged to help.

But after all, she was a woman, the strength disparity was great, and against two strong men, she was soon overpowered.

Ma Zi raised his hand and slapped her across the face, sending her reeling, stars flashing before her eyes, her ears ringing.

Then, Ma Zi and Scar each grabbed one of her arms and began dragging her outside.

Halfway there, Ma Zi, annoyed, suggested to Scar, “Why don’t we just finish her off here?”

Scar spat out, “In this freezing weather? You want to freeze your balls off?”

As Su Meixi was dragged through the snow, the world seemed to spin and turn dark, plummeting her into despair.

She stared blankly at the snow on the ground, awaiting the inhuman torment to come.

However, Scar and Ma Zi suddenly stopped.

Next, they heard Ma Zi curse, “Who the hell are you?”

In the blink of an eye, there was a “smack,” and Ma Zi was lying on Su Meixi’s left side.

Su Meixi froze for a moment, her left hand slackening.

Right after, Scar was kicked over to the side, the force holding her down released, and she collapsed onto the snow.

Then, someone came over and helped her up.

Su Meixi saw Gu Wei with a worried face covered in snow, even on his eyebrows. At that moment, her nose tingled, she opened her mouth wanting to call his name, but found herself unable to say a word.

Gu Wei helped her to sit to one side, while he walked over to Ma Zi and Scar, swinging left and right, punishing them with his fists.

Soon, Xiao Ding and Da Liu arrived as well.

Su Meixi’s nerves relaxed, and she passed out.

When she woke up, she found herself in the room of a health clinic.

An electric blanket was turned on under the bed, warming her.

Her face was in pain; Ma Zi’s slap had caused her face to swell, but she could smell medicine, suggesting someone had already applied ointment to it.

Then, she heard people talking outside:

It was Dr. Ma’s voice: “…I know, from now on, whenever she makes house calls, I’ll notify you all, so that this never happens again.”

Then Gu Wei’s voice, “You can go back; I’ll take care of her here.”

“Are you sure? Shall I call Sarah to take care of her?” Dr. Ma asked.

Gu Wei said, “I’m fine.”

Dr. Ma glanced at Gu Wei, then at the door to Su Meixi’s room.

Su Meixi was someone they had rescued, and they had helped out the health clinic quite a bit; they were trustworthy.

Dr. Ma left feeling reassured.

A little while later, Xiao Ding said, “Boss, you should go back too. You’ve been patrolling outside all day; we’re here for her.”

Gu Wei gave him a look and said resolutely, “I’ll stay with her!”

Xiao Ding didn’t dare to say another word.

Soon after, Su Meixi’s room door creaked open.
