Chapter 11 – Are you worthy?
Cunning Beasts, creatures that appeared alongside the Transcendent. Up until now, the Sky Eye's database has recorded forty-nine different types of Cunning Beasts, but there are signs that there are even more.
The academic community has yet to reach a consensus on their origins. Some say they come from beyond the heavens, not belonging to the present world. But there are also those who believe that they are animals and plants influenced by the Transcendents, just like the Transcendents among humans.
But one thing is certain, they are extremely dangerous.
The Sky Eye discovered a camp.
Everyone in the camp focused their attention on the sudden appearance of the Cunning Beast. The Commissioners dispersed in teams and the dense rain of bullets formed a net, pouring down on the bull-headed Cunning Beast from all directions.
Although there were no other Transcendents in the camp, the combat team was well-equipped. With such firepower coverage, even tank armor should have been pierced, but it had little effect on this monster.
It charged forward, breaking through the Commissioner's formation like a bowling ball rolling down a lane.
The Commissioner operating the machine gun gritted his teeth and endured the numbing vibration, but it had little effect. The bull-headed Cunning Beast charged forward, defying the intense firepower, like a runaway train.
In a critical moment, a figure swooped in with a whirlwind. Wei Chuan grabbed the machine gunner and dodged to the side, just as the machine gun was lifted off its mount.
Wei Chuan placed his rescued comrade on the ground, took a deep breath, and turned towards the ferocious beast covered in bullets, tightly gripping the handle of his knife.
It was the knife given to him by the instructor at the training camp.
In fact, Wei Chuan was quite lucky during his training. The instructor in charge happened to be a Transcendent of the wind element, just like him, and it was said that the instructor was a B-ranked Transcendent. Most of his combat skills and ability development were benefited from that instructor.
He still remembered, when he was still a rookie, the instructor casually swung his knife, and the several millimeters thick steel plate broke with a loud crack.
Literally cutting through iron like mud.

"The attributes of the Transcendent themselves are important, but the user is equally important," the instructor said to the students at that time. "Any type of Transcendent is ordinary in the beginning. But with proper training and guidance, most Transcendents can develop tremendous potential."
That scene left an indelible mark in Wei Chuan's mind during his rookie days. It was also at that time that he made up his mind to make "sharpness" and "cutting" the main focus of his ability development, just like the instructor he admired.
In Wei Chuan's impression, the instructor was the most powerful Transcendent he had ever seen.
And today, he was no longer the rookie from back then. He had already become a capable Transcendent, not only receiving the instructor's gift of a sword but also mastering the same sword technique that the instructor used to cut through iron like mud.
Wei Chuan leaped up, and the whirlwind gathered around the blade he pulled out, forming a black tornado in the air.
It was the ultimate strike, the convergence of the will of "cutting" to the maximum extent of his ability. At this moment, he was the lord of the wind, and every wisp of air in his domain obeyed his command, becoming a part of his lethal blade.
It was called the Blade of Gale!
Wei Chuan shouted, as if he wanted to put all his weight into this strike. The blade, enveloped in black smoke, fell like a force splitting Mount Hua. The Cunning Beast was placed right in the center of the whirlwind, and the strengthened blade struck its body without any hindrance!
The blade fell, and the wind stopped.
Wei Chuan landed in a cool pose, and his clothes slowly fell in the wind.
Originally, the bull-headed Cunning Beast that was roaring at a small team was struck by this powerful blow, freezing its movements.
After about half a second, it slowly turned its head. It glanced at the shallow scar on its body caused by the strike, then looked at Wei Chuan, who had just finished his pose.
Its eyes gradually turned fierce.
Wei Chuan silently hid the knife behind his back and awkwardly met the gaze of the beast's large eyes.
"...Sorry."
"Roar!"
The bull-headed Cunning Beast suddenly became furious and slapped down towards him. Wei Chuan dodged, avoiding the slap, but was still blown away by the blast of air.
Unfortunately, Wei Chuan's lethal strike broke through its defense, but the depth was not enough. It was at the delicate scale of being able to enter but not deep enough.
No wonder the bull-headed Cunning Beast suddenly became furious.
"Cover! Cover!"
The Commissioners continued to fire all around, but it was obviously ineffective. The impact-deformed casings scattered around the Cunning Beast.
They couldn't win.
This was a situation that the camp, on a level three alert, was completely unprepared for. Wei Chuan realized that this was not a problem they could handle on their own. All they could do was to try to restrain and wait for reinforcements, to prevent the Cunning Beast from escaping and harming civilians.
That's what Wei Chuan originally thought, and he had even prepared himself for sacrifice. After all, that's how this job was, or rather, they had already made up their minds when they signed the contract.
Wei Chuan, who was blown away by the blast of air, staggered to his feet and once again gripped the handle of his knife, his eyes determined.
Sometimes, a man has to fight even when he knows he will lose.
This was a quote he read in a book before he joined the training camp. At that time, he was in his teenage phase, and those words made his blood boil, imagining that it was his desired destination.
With the knife in hand, facing the almost invincible Cunning Beast in the center of the firepower, Wei Chuan's mouth slightly curled up.
Now looking back, he still thought it was not bad.
To die on the battlefield for the lights of thousands of families behind him, it was the romance of a man.
However, just as he was about to charge forward with a heroic spirit, a figure suddenly descended from the sky.
It was so fast that no one could see clearly, but at the moment of landing, it was as if someone had thrown a large iron ball from thousands of meters above the sea surface. The earth shattered with a loud explosion, and the dust wave swept like a tsunami.
Just as Wei Chuan was about to stabilize himself, he was blown away again, landing face down in a dog-eating-mud posture. Fragments and casings were blown in all directions, and even the arrogant bull-headed Cunning Beast took two steps back under the surging air waves.
The sudden change in air pressure created a circular open space on the ground, as if a dust-free area had been deliberately cleared on the chaotic battlefield to welcome someone's arrival.
In the center of the cracked open space, a figure stood upright.
A deep blue uniform, a red cape like a soaring flame.
...
...
Jiang Bei saw the twisted creature with horns, almost as if it had "I am the villain" written on its face.
And as soon as that thing saw him, it immediately let out a threatening roar and charged towards him.
To attack upon seeing someone, it further indicated that this thing was definitely not a good guy.
The bull-headed Cunning Beast was actually quite terrifying in appearance. First of all, its size was many times larger than Jiang Bei's weak and scholarly physique. Coupled with its sharp fangs and ferocious appearance, even a quick glance was enough to give someone nightmares for a week.
This terrifying creature charged towards him, and honestly, Jiang Bei felt a bit scared deep down.
Feeling the threat to his life, he had to take appropriate defensive measures.
So he clenched his right fist, and in his eyes, he clearly reflected the path and angle of the Cunning Beast, calculating the timing.
He threw a punch.
Boom!
It was like a high explosive detonating in the center of the camp, the strong explosion shook everyone's eardrums, and the subsequent powerful air pressure cut off their breath.
One second later.
The dust settled, and the fiery red cape slowly fell.
The bull-headed Cunning Beast was still standing there.
No, or rather, it should be said that it was now only half a bull-headed Cunning Beast.
Because from its waist up, it was completely gone.
Wei Chuan widened his eyes, staring at this incredible scene in front of him, and slowly opened his mouth...@@novelbin@@
...and then was choked by the rolling smoke, coughing a few times.
But he had no time to care about that. His entire body and mind were filled with unparalleled shock. He felt like his brain was a malfunctioning DVD player, replaying the scene he had just witnessed uncontrollably.
That Cunning Beast, the Cunning Beast that was unharmed by the rain of bullets, the Cunning Beast that his full-powered Blade of Gale had no effect on.
It was killed in an instant.
No fancy abilities, no powerful weapons, just one punch.
A punch that was so plain that it even made people feel fearful.
For some reason, this terrifying punch made him vaguely remember the past. He thought of when he first arrived at the training camp, he thought of the instructor's one strike that cut through iron like mud.
Over the years, he would occasionally recall that day. But every time he thought about it, he would be deeply impressed by the instructor's strength and once again strengthen his determination to move forward.
However, today, for the first time ever, he didn't think that way.
If he could go back in time to that day, he just wanted to point at the instructor's nose and say to him—
—Is this the fucking extent of your pathetic skills?
Who do you think you are!?
What do you think?
