Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Sang Qiao’s Chief Physician is L
Mrs. Sang looked at her second son who had fainted and was terrified. She hurriedly called an ambulance, as the household already had one person hospitalized, and now there were two.
When Sang Shen woke up,
everyone immediately crowded around him. Jiaojiao voiced her concern, “Second Brother, are you alright? If I had known, I wouldn’t have asked you to go back to get my clothes for me. I could have made do with my hospital gowns.”
Sang Shen seemed not to hear her words at all as he scanned the surroundings before continuously looking towards the door.
“Second Brother, what are you looking for?” Jiaojiao asked puzzled, always feeling that something was odd.
Once Sang Shen confirmed that the person he was searching for was not there, he reached out and grabbed Mrs. Sang, “Where is Sang Qiao? Where did you send her, Mom? Did you drive her away?”
Upon hearing this, the complexions of the three present changed. Mrs. Sang and Jiaojiao were somewhat displeased, but they did not show it.
Siyang was very surprised because when he came to the hospital, he had explained on behalf of Qiaoqiao a hundred times, yet the Second Brother had maintained that she couldn’t possibly be innocent. Now, he was frantically looking for her? It was bizarrely inconsistent.
“No, I have to find Sang Qiao. There’s so much I haven’t made clear. You drove her away, and she will definitely think I still don’t trust her. I believe, I do believe now.”
Sang Shen spoke in agony. As he spoke, he tried to pull back the covers and stand on the floor with his legs.
He was stopped and supported by Mrs. Sang, “Shen’er, stop thinking about it. Even if you were wrong, she was too! Right now, she doesn’t care about you at all. When you fainted, she didn’t even turn her head back, let alone follow you to the hospital!”
“You’re lying. That’s impossible. You’re trying to fool me again. Why must you destroy our family…”
Sang Shen, a tall and robust man, cried out loud for the first time, as weak as a grievously wounded person, his face streaked with tears, and the pain in his heart unbearable.
He wished he could tear open and dig out that part of him. He resented his mother, and he couldn’t understand why.
He hated himself more for his arrogance and pride. Qiaoqiao didn’t contact him, and he couldn’t reach her, but couldn’t he have looked for her? Even if it meant flying overseas, what would it matter?
Why must he wait for her to lower her head, wait for her to admit her wrongs…
Even if it was true that Qiaoqiao didn’t want to have anything to do with him, he should have heard it straight from her, not silently pass a “death sentence” on her in his heart.
“Shen’er, how can you speak like this? I am your mother. If Sang Qiao doesn’t come back, she doesn’t. But you still have Jiaojiao, don’t you? Isn’t Jiaojiao a good sister to you too?”
Although Mrs. Sang was hurt to hear her own son speak to her like this, she still patiently comforted him.
She thought she should have never spoken to Sang Qiao that day, and such words should never have reached Shen’er’s ears.
“I never intended to acknowledge any sister other than Qiaoqiao. If it wasn’t for her paying a heavy price to get L for me, but now you are telling me, it wasn’t her who asked him. I owe Qiaoqiao an apology…”
Sang Shen was utterly annoyed with himself. He shouldn’t have accepted L’s treatment back then. Even if his hand were disabled for life, even amputation would have been better than acknowledging Jiaojiao.
“What? L wasn’t invited by Jiaojiao?” Siyang seemed to understand the pain of his Second Brother.
He was feeling the same way. If he hadn’t followed his brothers’ advice and had obstinately gone to the airport to pick up Sang Qiao on the day of her return, if he had stood by Qiaoqiao’s side instead of Jiaojiao’s at that moment…
Maybe… things wouldn’t have ended up like this.
When Jiaojiao heard these words, her face went white immediately. She trembled slightly in her speech, trying to maintain a forced smile, “Second Brother, what are you talking about? I don’t understand. It was me who invited L indeed.”
“Jiaojiao, you’ve never been out of the country, so how could you have invited him, and how would you even know him?”
Sang Shen, annoyed by her current explanations, felt vexed. Why did he not realize the obvious at the time? Why was he so foolish?
“Everyone says it was Miss Sang who invited him over, wasn’t it? Just because I’ve never been abroad doesn’t mean I didn’t have the chance to meet him, Siyang. You can’t just suspect me based on a few words from Qiaoqiao, especially when you clearly know that Qiaoqiao has never liked me.”
Jiaojiao was extremely anxious, but she forced herself to stabilize her emotions, trying to appear as though nothing was wrong.
So what if it was Sang Qiao who invited him? Could Sang Qiao possibly get L to come out and testify for her?
As if his schedule wasn’t jam-packed!
“Sang Qiao is also Miss Sang, and at that time, the outside world did not know that you were a part of our family.”
Sang Shen’s eyes darkened, filled with the desire to slap his past self. The fact that Sang Qiao didn’t contact them didn’t mean she had cut ties with the family. Why did his first reaction upon hearing Miss Sang was to think it was Jiaojiao?
“But my name has always been Jiaojiao since I was young. Since you no longer trust me, I don’t want to continue explaining. However, I will definitely find evidence to prove my innocence. I just hope you’ll give me some time.”
Jiaojiao pretended to be heartbroken, lowering her head, her frail body shaking as she walked towards the door.
“Jiaojiao! Where are you going? You’re still sick,” Mrs. Sang hurried forward to support her.
“Shen’er, you can’t just take Qiaoqiao’s word for it and not give Jiaojiao a chance to explain. She has never harmed us, but has always silently given to us. Have you forgotten?”
“It’s okay. I can explain clearly. I didn’t meet with L face to face; we have chat records. Although it’s been a long time, I will find them.”
Jiaojiao silently gave ground, tears of loss in her eyes, yet she did not blame him at all.
Sang Shen felt a strange sense of guilt inside, ultimately feeling that he should believe her this one time.
In the past, it was because he did not give Sang Qiao a chance to explain that they ended up in the current situation. He could not treat Jiaojiao the same way.
“No rush, heal first. As long as it’s not proven definitively it was Sang Qiao who invited L, I still believe you.”
Upon hearing this, Jiaojiao’s heart was in turmoil, but on the surface, she managed to smile through tears, “Siyang, I will find the evidence as soon as possible.”
“Good, Mom, take Jiaojiao back to the ward. I need some time alone.” Sang Shen dared not look her in the eyes.
The mistake was his, and he was the foolish one.
“Shen’er, then you rest well.”
“Siyang, wait for me.”
After speaking, Mrs. Sang and Jiaojiao left the ward together, leaving only Sang Siyang still standing there.
“Why aren’t you leaving?” Sang Shen lifted his head and glanced at him.
“Do you want to know about those medical records now?” Sang Siyang knew it wasn’t the time to upset Siyang again, but he would soon have to return to the club, and he didn’t know when he could get leave again.
“Yes, tell me.”
“Qiaoqiao didn’t go abroad to study; she went to get treatment. Her chief physician was L. Since returning to the country, her condition has been unstable, but she always went for treatment alone, never troubling us. Only that one time with the car accident…” @@novelbin@@
Sang Siyang didn’t continue, as the two of them understood all too well.
He thought they had treated Qiaoqiao well and that she was the ungrateful one, but faced with these medical records, he felt undeserving of being a brother.
He had never known Qiaoqiao’s health was so poor.
What do you think?
