Chapter 107: Congratulations, Player: Mission Complete – Survival
Bo Jingmo took the woman’s cold hand and lowered his head, explaining to Guangran in a calm voice: “My soul is too weak. She wants to use your souls to nourish mine.”
After speaking, he gently held the person in his arms, lowered his head and kissed her ear softly, his voice tender: “Let them go, I know you don’t really want to do this.”
The woman lifted her eyes to look at him, her gaze unreadable.
Her voice was low: “Bo Jingmo, if I help them, my soul will disappear.”
Bo Jingmo’s expression softened as he let out a gentle laugh and coaxed her patiently: “Then I’ll go with you. The memories of this world are too painful. Let’s start over in our next life, okay?”
The woman pressed her lips together without answering, just tightened her grip on Bo Jingmo’s wrist.
She lowered her head to glance at Guangran on the ground, then looked at Yi Xian and Qi Mai beside her. After a long silence, she finally spoke: “Guangran, I can agree to your request.”
Before Guangran could even show a look of joy, they heard Yu Li suddenly say: “But when you leave, go to Zhao Xu’s house and take Zhao Meng with you.”
That long-unmentioned name made Guangran freeze.
Zhao Meng…?She’s not dead?
She looked up at Yu Li, but the woman had already turned and picked up the divine statue from the table. The foul blood ran down her pale wrist, soaking into her sleeve with a sizzling, burning sound. Red mist slowly enveloped her.
Black mist began pouring from her body. Her once solid soul form was now becoming faint.
She was using her own soul to absorb the evil aura of the cursed item.
Yu Li lowered her head to look at Guangran. Her face showed no emotion, her voice calm as she stated:
“I didn’t kill Zhao Meng. She’s innocent. So I hope you can take her away and give her a new life.”
In Yu Banxue’s memories, Zhao Meng was actually a pitiful little girl too. Living in this mountain village, she had lived timidly and humbly.
But she used to sneak food to Yu Banxue, bring her blankets at midnight, and even helped cover for her when Yu Banxue tried to escape.
Yu Banxue didn’t blame her. The dead girls had chosen to forgive her too.
Yu Li respected their choice.
But actually, there was another more important reason—Zhao Meng was the key to the players solving the mystery.
They had forgotten this unremarkable little girl.
But in truth, the story they wanted and the way to escape had all been tied to her.
Yu Li had given them the chance—don’t kill Wei Caifan, find Zhao Meng, and they could escape.
Unfortunately, they chose the wrong path.
Golden light rose in the east. The courtyard was bathed in afterglow. The ghost woman slowly turned into a translucent spirit form.
As her body became more and more ethereal, she turned to Bo Jingmo, smiled gently, and reached out her hand, “Bo Jingmo, I have to go.”
Bo Jingmo held her hand, lowered his head, and softly kissed the back of it, his actions filled with indescribable longing and love.
“I’ll go with you.”
As dawn slowly broke, sunlight spilled onto the forest lake. The mist lingering above the water gradually dissipated.
The fog curling around the mountains vanished overnight, like countless wandering souls finally set free, reborn in the morning light.
The woman’s red figure and Bo Jingmo disappeared from the courtyard together. The pitch-black divine statue fell to the ground with a clatter.
Guangran stared blankly at the fallen statue, her trembling hand reaching for it—only for another hand to pick it up first.
She looked up and saw Zhao Meng, who had been missing all this time.
Zhao Meng looked down at the statue in her hand, her long bangs covering her eyes.
She didn’t say a word. She silently walked to the table, placed the statue over the candle flame. The fire shot up instantly, engulfing the entire statue.
Zhao Meng slowly let go, her face expressionless.
Her family was dead. The villagers were dead. Yet her expression looked faintly… relieved.
Just then, an old, obscure song suddenly played from her pocket.
The familiar sound made all the players present jolt.
Back on the bus, it was this very sound that had woken them up.
Their pupils shrank, fists clenched. Why was Zhao Meng’s phone still working?
Zhao Meng pulled out her phone, looked down and pressed “answer.” After listening to the voice on the other end, she hung up and looked at them.
“Someone is already waiting for us at the village entrance.”
She paused and lowered her gaze, “…Sister Banxue told me, if any of you are still alive, I should take you with me.”
“She also said… everything that happened here, no one else will ever know.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the players’ minds finally echoed with that familiar voice.
【Congratulations, Player: Mission Complete – Survival.】
In this instance, they had only completed the bare minimum: survival.
They didn’t uncover the mountain village’s secret. They didn’t dispel the ghost’s resentment.
Because from beginning to end, it was the ghost herself who had killed the villagers.
As the system explained the plot, the village’s history was laid bare. The ghost had not lied to them. The truth was exactly as she said: the tragedy of this village stemmed from Wei Caifan’s greed.
The only thing she had lied about… was that last part.
【Yu Banxue had long since lost her faith in humanity. Trapped beneath the lake for years, her heart corroded by hatred day and night, she was no longer Yu Banxue, but the embodiment of all the girls’ resentment.】
【No one could redeem her. Only self-destruction or death could bring her any sense of safety.】
So she chose to kill Bo Jingmo. Only the companionship of death… was true, eternal love.
As the players walked away, the screen slowly faded to black. The audience finished watching.
【The film has ended. Thank you for watching. Please rate your favorite/least favorite characters!】
【Who else thought all the players were going to die, and it turned out the ghost saved them…】
【So the players’ role was—? To help the ghost break her seal?】
【And once it was broken, she sacrificed herself...?】
【The players didn’t do much this time. Probably all newbies. Didn’t even find the key NPC.】
【Yu Banxue killed too fast—one after another. The players were dumbfounded.】
【One save for three. Technically a win, but I still feel awful.】
【Wrong. It’s two saves for three. Bo Jingmo went with the ghost.】
【But it’s not the same! Once the game ends, Bo Jingmo comes back. But the ghost… she’s truly gone… I’m crying. This NPC may never know that her boyfriend was just a player—who only stayed with her to complete the mission.】
【Don’t say that. Remember? After Bo Jingmo dies, he loses consciousness. That means everything he did was from the heart. He really gave her real love.】
【Wuwuwu, beautiful sister still died. Is Bo Jingmo cursed? Every beautiful NPC he pairs with ends up dead. Let’s not ship him with anyone anymore.】
【I’m breaking down. I only feel sad for the ghost. I can even forgive everything she did. She just wanted one sincere love. Wanted to avenge those girls.】
【That old b*stard was the one who deserved to die most!!】
【Guess it’s an open ending. Don’t be too sad. At least the ghost and Bo Jingmo left together. She left with happiness in her heart.】
【Wuwuwu, I hope they’ll be okay.】
And in a room where no one was present, a woman was pinned against the wall, being kissed by a man.
Her soft, slender waist was held firmly in his large hand. The corners of her fox-like eyes were tinged with a rosy flush, shimmering with moisture.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and tilted her head up, accepting his feverish kisses.
On the ground, scattered, were a red wedding dress and a red wedding veil.
What do you think?
