Chapter 53

“Send me the medical bill later. For today, just go home.”
Alicia flashed a bright smile at the flustered Maren before slamming the door shut with enough force to make a point.
“Mom, how was it?”
As soon as the door closed, Alicia turned to Mikael. His eyes sparkled, all traces of his earlier hesitation gone.
“That was amazing!”
“Really?”
“Yeah, Mom, you’re the best!”
Mikael burst into laughter and threw himself into Alicia’s arms. She smoothed his tousled hair but frowned slightly as she did.
“This won’t do. You need a bath.”
“But I already took one this morning.”@@novelbin@@
Mikael tried to back away, but he had no chance of escaping Alicia’s grasp. Chuckling, she pinched his cheek lightly.
“Well, what can we do? My son came back looking like this.”
“…”
“What’s with that look?”
“I thought you’d be mad at me for fighting.”
“So you do know that fighting is bad?”
“Yeah…”
He looked seriously troubled, his small face scrunched in contemplation. Alicia found it adorable. She placed her hands firmly on his shoulders and met his eyes.
“It’s okay. You won.”
“…”
“I don’t encourage fighting, but sometimes it’s necessary when people say cruel things. If you just keep holding back, they’ll think you’re weak.”
“Like you, Mom?”
What do you think?
