Chapter 84: The Thugs
Inside the dark train carriage, Lin Xian stared at the radio in his hand, his face heavy with concern.
He tried adjusting the frequency, but no matter how much he turned the dial, it always snapped back to 1542.
A wave of unease surged through him. He had already seen through this eerie trick—the fear invasion was merely a mental disturbance. But despite knowing that, he still had no idea how to escape this place.
A cold wind howled through the carriage, filling the air with an icy chill.
Lin Xian’s heart suddenly skipped a beat.
Wait.
I remember… when I picked up the silver antenna, the lights turned on…
His eyes narrowed. Immediately, he activated Mechanical Heart, and—clang!—the entire train’s lighting system powered on.
This time, the lights behaved normally. They weren’t swallowed by darkness, nor did they flicker strangely.
Click. But oddly enough, just a few seconds later, the lights shut off again.
Lin Xian’s gaze snapped toward the control panel at the end of the carriage.
Who turned off the lights?
The Infinite Train’s lighting system was working fine. This wasn’t a malfunction—someone had turned them off on purpose. That made things even eerier.
An idea struck him. He activated Mechanical Heart again and switched on the heating system in Car No. 1.
Inside the freezing carriage…
On the other side, Chen Sixuan suddenly felt a warm breeze.
“It’s Lin Xian!”
She instantly realized what was happening. Without hesitation, she quickly turned the heater off again.
Back inside the eerie carriage, Lin Xian abruptly shot up from the sofa.
“Turning off the heater to save power… That’s definitely Chen Laoshi!”
His eyes widened in astonishment as he grabbed the radio.
“So, I really am trapped inside a frequency!”
Why was he stuck in 1542? He didn’t have time to figure that out. What mattered was finding a way out.
"Frequency… That’s it!"
"The Phoenix Group transmits important information using LW01 longwave frequency, while we Wanderers mainly use AM07 and AM09…"
Lin Xian’s pupils contracted as he suddenly understood.
He wasn’t in a real place. He was inside an eerie frequency. No matter how he adjusted the dial, the radio would always display 1542.
"If that’s the case, maybe I need someone outside to tune to a different frequency… That way, I might be able to sync with it and escape!"
He clenched the radio tighter, but his excitement quickly turned to frustration.
"But I can’t change the frequency from in here!"
Wait.
He glanced at the silver antenna in his hand.
"I almost forgot about this thing!"
But then, he hesitated.
If I put this thing back on, will it summon something terrifying again?
"...So what if it does? It’s all fake."
Lin Xian’s eyes darkened. Gritting his teeth, he slammed the silver antenna into place.
Sure enough—
The moment it connected to the radio, a red ghostly figure materialized at the end of the corridor.
A woman in a blood-red dress stood eerily still, her pale face twisted into a disturbing smile.
Lin Xian scowled.
"What the hell are you looking at?! Tell me how to get out of here!"
A surge of irritation overpowered his fear.
His sudden outburst stunned the ghost.
Her eerie smile vanished. Her eyes flashed with rage, and in an instant, she teleported right in front of him, raising blood-soaked claws to tear at his throat—
Slash!
Lin Xian’s gaze turned icy. His blade flashed.
The ghost’s head flew clean off, rolling to the ground with a heavy thud.
"Tch. Trying to scare me?"
Silence filled the carriage.
The ghost’s severed head rolled into a corner, her lifeless eyes glaring at him with hatred. Meanwhile, her headless body remained standing, claws still raised.
Lin Xian snorted. He knew this was just an illusion, so he ignored it. Instead, he turned the radio dial—and this time, the frequency changed.
"So I was right!"
His theory was correct. The radio’s true nature was in the silver antenna. It had trapped him inside this eerie frequency.
To escape, someone outside needed to sync their radio with his—but on any frequency other than 1542.
Realizing this, Lin Xian felt a surge of relief.
"Now, how do I get Chen Laoshi to tune in?"
Gurgle…
The severed ghost head rolled to his feet, her eyes gleaming maliciously.
"Ugh, you again…."
Annoyed, Lin Xian kicked the head aside and frowned at the headless corpse.
Even knowing it wasn’t real, its creepy presence was unsettling.
A thought crossed his mind.
He suddenly grabbed the ghost’s dress—
RIP!
The red fabric tore away, revealing a thin but well-shaped female body… dressed in red lingerie.
Lin Xian blinked.
"Huh. Ghosts wear lingerie too?"
Apart from being disturbingly skinny…
The severed head in the corner looked horrified for the first time.
As the torn fabric fell, the sinister atmosphere instantly vanished. The overwhelming sense of dread evaporated.
Lin Xian let out a long breath.
Pointing at the ghost’s head, he smirked.
"Mess with me again, and I’ll strip you completely."
…
Vrrrooom…
Engines rumbled in the distance, growing louder.
A large convoy of vehicles was approaching through the forest.
"Chen Jie, more of them are coming!"
Shasha’s furious voice crackled through the walkie-talkie. "Looks like they’ve really set their sights on us tonight!"
Chen Sixuan’s face darkened. "We don’t have a choice. Keep an eye on them—something’s happening with Lin Xian."
She had finally heard movement from Lin Xian’s side. That was her priority now.
Rat-a-tat-tat!
Before she could react, gunfire erupted from the rear carriages.
At least a dozen vehicles had arrived, attempting to surround the train.
Shasha and Luo Ye opened fire immediately. Meanwhile, the commotion also attracted a horde of zombies from the snowfields.
Outside, a blizzard raged.
Thud, thud, thud!
A sudden noise echoed from the roof. Someone was climbing on top of the train!
"Chen Jie! Up front!"
Shasha realized something and shouted through the walkie-talkie.
Chen Sixuan’s heart pounded. She rushed to the cockpit, intending to seal the doors.
If the attackers figured out there were only three people on board, the situation could spiral out of control.
Thud, thud, thud!
The sound moved from the back of the train to the front at an alarming speed.
Flashlights peeked through cracks, searching for openings—until a face suddenly dropped upside down in front of the windshield, grinning wickedly.
The man had scorpion-like insect limbs growing from his back.
Chen Sixuan’s face went pale.
An Ability User!
His flashlight beam landed on her. His eyes glowed as he let out a shrill laugh.
"Hah! There’s only three of them! And two are chicks!"
With that, he leapt off the train and sprinted toward the convoy.
Chen Sixuan’s heart sank. She snatched the walkie-talkie.
"Shasha! An Ability User spotted us! He’s running to tell them!"
In Car No. 5, Shasha’s face darkened. She grabbed her gun and yelled—
"Ge, take that bastard out—NOW!"
What do you think?
