Chapter 81: A Good Actor
As the dust settled and the wreckage cleared, the battlefield revealed a battered and bloodied figure lying amidst the debris. His clothes were torn and tattered, his body was covered in cuts and bruises. One hand clutched his side, where blood seeped through his fingers, while the other weakly traced the mark of a black sword etched into his chest.
Unexpectedly it was Xue Ren !
As Xue Ren slowly raised himself from the wreckage, coughing up blood, the injuries on his body became evident.
"Thank you for showing mercy, brother Liang," Xue Ren said, his voice filled with both exhaustion and disappointment.
Before him, Liang Yifei's figure materialized, a warm smile playing on his lips. His presence seemed untouched by the preceding battle as if he had barely exerted himself. The contrast between the two combatants was striking, emphasizing Xue Ren's weakened state.
"It was just a sparring session, brother Xue," Liang chuckled, his tone oddly jovial considering the circumstances. "Of course, I wouldn't want to seriously hurt you." His words held a hint of mockery as if he found enjoyment in Xue Ren's struggle.
Xue Ren let out a bitter laugh, which quickly transformed into a strange smile. "You have a strange way of showing your affection, brother Liang," he retorted, his voice laced with a combination of exhaustion and mockery.
Liang Yifei only smiled at Xue Ren's comment. It was difficult to discern his true intentions or emotions, leaving Xue Ren to wonder about the depths of this brother Liang's character.
Observing Liang Yifei's expression and demeanor, Xue Ren weakly smiled, As mustering his remaining strength to speak. "Okay, brother Liang, I will go now to heal my injuries." The exhaustion in his voice was palpable, the weariness apparent in his every word.
Liang nodded, a hint of concern in his eyes. "Take care, brother Xue," he replied earnestly. "If you need any assistance, don't hesitate to reach out."
With a grateful nod, he slowly made his way off the battlefield, his footsteps heavy and weary.
Liang watched as Xue Ren slowly disappeared into the distance expressionlessly, his thoughts a mixture of relief and introspection.
"Xue Ren truly isn't simple, He is really a good actor, " he mused. "During our last clash, I sensed an immense power within him, yet he still seemed to hold back. The sword wound on his chest was meant to inflict serious harm, considering the power he displayed. But the events unfolded in a way that suggests he still possesses some hidden trump cards. I doubt that his injuries aren't that serious as he reveals. I still can't be completely certain that he poses no real threat to me."
Though Xue Ren's injuries bore the unmistakable marks of seriousness, their true extent remained uncertain. Nevertheless, Liang knew that Xue Ren had asked for a fierce battle, a test of strength, and he had given him just that .
Xue Ren may think he had witnessed the extent of Liang's abilities, but little did he know that Liang had deliberately held half of his true strength. This realization brought a sense of satisfaction to Liang, knowing that he still had plenty of tricks up his sleeve, hidden from the prying eyes .
A smile, tinged with contemplation, played on Liang's lips. With his recent advancement to the Dao integration realm, he had only unlocked a single technique - the Void Wraith Form. This forbidden bloodline technique exacted a tremendous toll on the user's bloodline power.
Upon reaching the Dao integration realm, Liang had sensed the existence of this bloodline power within his body and soul. Though its purpose eluded him, he knew that employing the Void Wraith Form would deplete a substantial amount of it. However, this only applied when he assumed his serpent form. As for why he activated it during the battle, he just wanted to know if there were any consequences to using it while in his human form.
Just as Liang Yifei was about to leave the mountain peak, his footsteps were halted by a voice that pierced through the air.
"Dao brother, please wait,"
Intrigued and curious, Liang Yifei turned to look, his eyes widened in surprise as he laid his gaze upon the breathtakingly beautiful woman standing before him.
Her delicate features were framed by flowing hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall of alabaster silk, swaying gently with each movement. It seemed to possess a life of its own, creating an enchanting aura around her, giving her an ethereal appearance. Her skin had an almost porcelain-like quality, exuding a soft luminosity that caught the light. Her eyes, a shade of mesmerizing blue, sparkled with both calmness and a hint of mystery, drawing others in like a magnet.
Her white robes billowed gently in the breeze, their fabric seemingly woven from pure moonlight. Floral embroidery adorned the edges, delicate patterns of silver and gold that glimmered as she moved. The fabric seemed to float around her, as if touched by a spatial current, creating an illusion of weightlessness.
Adorned with minimal accessories, She wore a simple silver pendant around her neck, depicting a crescent moon intertwined with a star. Her movements were graceful and fluid, each step carrying an air of serenity and poise.
Liang's eyes narrowed as he studied the mysterious newcomer intently. Her aura was as elusive as a whisper in the wind, and had she not called out just now, he was certain he would have overlooked her entirely. But something about her presence ignited a spark of curiosity within him, an undeniable pull compelling him to listen to what she had to say.
As she approached, her steps were light and graceful, as if she floated on air. Each movement she made exuded a quiet confidence, a sense of serene composure surrounded her, which made his eyes narrow even more, as most cultivators would require even the tiniest trace of spirit Qi to levitate, yet he sensed none emanating from her. keep in mind that he activated his void sense to its fullest almost the same time he heard the woman's voice.
Unable to resist the curiosity that pulsed through his veins, Liang finally spoke, his voice laced with both caution and interest. "Who are you?"
What do you think?
