Chapter 112: Progress
This time, his coming here was to kill this beast—though he wouldn't risk his life doing so. He was pretty confident in his ability to kill it.
"Maximum effort!" Gripping the shield tightly in his hand, Guilliman made Ghost swerve to the side as he slashed at the beast with his claymore while keeping his guard up.
Currently, Guilliman had three mythic echoes active: the claymore he borrowed from Victoria, the charm he obtained from slaying the mythic tree, and a long steel chain.
After several repeated exchanges with the beast, Guilliman suddenly threw out a steel chain, which wrapped around the bear's neck and tightened immediately, in the next second it released several bolts of electricity sending them coursing through his veins.
The beast struggled desperately to endure, but its wounds were too severe. At one point, it even felt metal scraps within its battered body conduct electricity and begin spinning, ripping through its insides. In the end, it fell to the ground, completely paralyzed, as the chain slowly dissipated.
"One-use echoes are the worst—worth it, though," Guilliman muttered as he approached the nearly lifeless body of the giant bear in front of him. He had gone to great lengths to obtain that chain; unfortunately, it was only a one-use echo.
"Anyway, time to end this body!" With his claymore in hand, Guilliman thrust it deep into the bear's head, instantly killing it.

"Finally!!" Sighing in relief, Guilliman let out a breath of hot air.
He was the only person in the entire cohort still stuck at level 7 all this while; even Jemie, that good for nothing had found a way to break through, and he hadn't. It was extremely embarrassing.
"No echo, I have to be fast then," Guilliman said after a brief moment of rejoicing as he looked at the bear, sensing its soul beginning to depart.
Without a beast echo , the beasts soul would quickly dissipate and then everything would be in vein.
So he quickly walked toward it and paused; this would probably be a bit harder than the other beast souls he had summoned. It was the soul of a great beast, after all.
But he was confident. More so than any rational shaman should be in fact. And that was because of his heavy soul.
Taking a deep breath, he stretched out his hand and uttered the word of power.
"Manifest!!"
In the next second, the silhouette of a giant bear began to form right above the corpse; its eyes filled with anger as it glared down at him.
This little human had chased it for weeks, torturing it at every step. Now the human had succeeded in killing it—and yet he was still trying to toy with its soul?! Despicable!! What had it done to deserve all this?
"Submit!!" Guilliman barked, looking at the indignant expression on the bear's face. It had lost to him in life, and now, as a soul, it had no choice but to submit.
[Congratulations, you have subdued Wanning Moon Bear and added it to your soul beast soldiers. Would you like to name this new soldier?]
The system resounded in his ear.
Normally, this option was not available. For example, he couldn't name the Swordfish Legion since the system deemed them too worthless to name. However, this particular beast soul had a lot of potential. It was a descendant of the beasts that laid siege to Raven's Keep Shelter 200 years ago. These were great beasts!! Even the system had to give it some respect.
"Name, huh… what about… Goliath?" Guilliman smirked.
This beast was massive; when crouching, it was 12 feet tall. He couldn't even imagine how big it would be if it stood on its two paws.

"Hmm, what's with the commotion?"
After settling everything with the Wanning Bear, Guilliman packed up some slabs of that pristine meat and made his way back to the keep. Moving through the forest as a Level 8 slayer was much easier than it had been when he first arrived. So he returned quite quickly.
But as soon as he exited the fog, he noticed a commotion at the gate.
"Looks like a Nu caravan. I should probably steer clear of it," Guilliman muttered to himself.
The three clans, although at loggerheads with each other, still had some agreements. After all, this was the only usable gate in the shelter; the others were either collapsed or led to gorges. In the struggle for power, the Valors, despite their numbers, were the actual winners.
Passing through the gate without issue, Guilliman paid the entry fee and made his way up the city steps, slowly treading over the cracked ground.

All around him, there was some activity, but he didn't pay it much heed. This was a common occurrence, fueled by the propaganda spread by the three clans about the happenings among them.
Gossip.
Guilliman didn't care for it.
Soon enough, he arrived in front of a stone building with newly installed wooden doors and windows. He had put them up himself, so he was sure this was the right place. However, when he opened the door, he was met with an unfamiliar face.
"Hm? Who are you?" Guilliman frowned.
This was the house they had commandeered when they first entered the city. It was their base of operations and also where they had been lodging these past few weeks. A stranger showing up without prior notice was not something he liked, especially at this time of night.
"Hm? Is that your Guilliman?" Suddenly, another man approached the door from behind. He was towering, clad in black armor, and his green hair flowed down his head and draped over his shoulders.
"Thane?!!" Guilliman was taken aback.
The Blacksteels were back??!!
What do you think?
