Awakened: SSS Ranked Soul king

Chapter 82 Untitled

As his blade sharpened, Cyrus's gaze panned to the beast in front of him, its towering body full of scaly armour and teeth that ground like a meat grinder.

It was severely weakened and had also been ambushed; however, it was a Grand beast of the knight code. Fighting such a beast was hard—harder than anything he had done so far.

However, he had no choice unless he wanted to become cannon fodder.

"Brace yourself!!" Cyrus barked as his lone figure ran forward with a gleaming blade at his side.

The beast, seeing him rush forward, swiped its tail, crashing down at him with incredible force and magnitude. It felt like a hammer was falling from the sky:

‑shing

But just as it reached Cyrus, blood splashed, and all of a sudden the beast's tail was cut off like a knife through butter.

Cyrus's aspect allowed him to make his weapons incredibly sharp; this wasn't limited to only sacred weapons. The one in his hand at that moment was a grand weapon, and with his amplification… honestly, he didn't know how sharp it was.

But it seemed like it was able to cut through the shell of an armoured grand beast like a knife through butter.

‑shing, shing, shing.

As he moved forward, he cut through numerous layers of the beast's scales, slowly bringing it to tears of pain and anguish.

This human was abnormally strong.

"Break!!" From the back, Quinn's voice sounded.

All of a sudden, Cyrus felt his gaze become black, devoid of light. He was blind.

This flaw was a harrowing one—blindness, that is—and unlike the big shots from the myriad families, he didn't have a fixed solution… his brothers' help could only last for 5 minutes so far.

That was his best.

"Okay," Cyrus jumped back whilst still swinging his sword to counter any attack that might come. Thankfully, even after landing, nothing came.

He deactivated his aspect and looked around.

The beast in front of him was horribly mutilated and, to an extent, looked scared; what Cyrus had just brought upon it was a barrage of unstoppable force—even its scales couldn't stop him.

This was bad; it had to get out of this place.

Panning its head to the side, the beast saw a way and immediately took it as it rushed out of the area.

"Don't let it escape!!" Cyrus barked at the other two members of his cohort as they watched the beast barrel towards one.

The other rushed forward to stop the monster like he had down countless times before, but this time… he just couldn't make it; he was extremely weak and tired… fighting this monster for so long was exhausting.

"Don't worry, we're here to help."

All of a sudden, a gust of wind blew past him, accompanied by a calm and soothing voice. However, despite how calm it was, he did not feel in any way happy.

That voice didn't belong to anyone in their cohort.

‑wing

A gust of wind, amplified by a blind light, shone as two figures reached the beast at top speed.

One moving from below and the other from above, two different elements melded into one, and when they clashed, the sound of thunder struck.

Before any of them knew, a large but sudden bump sounded on the ground of the forest, and blood trailed onto the floor, wetting it with a crimson dye.

The beast had been decapitated.

"Ahhh, I didn't get the kill, huh? Any beast echo?" Victoria smiled bitterly as she turned to Guilliman.

The two of them hand-stalked this battle until this moment where no one would hold them at fault to step out.

What could they realistically say? "You saved our men, that's not fair?"

Of course not.

"Not even one, bummer," Guilliman smiled bitterly.

The kill did increase his gene points, though.

Guilliman, for the past few days, had killed a myriad of beasts at sacred and two at grand; his rise to power was without a doubt earned.

While he looked at his stats, Cyrus and his brothers approached them, gloomy looks painted on their faces. This beast they had painstakingly hunted had been stolen by these two.

It was annoying!!

However, he had to keep his composure. After all, they were going against the rules they agreed to.

"It attacked us from out of nowhere, had no idea the others were chasing it…" Cyrus explained what had 'happened' in great detail. It was as if he were trying to explain himself to a grand tribunal.

"I figured that was the case… this forest is just too unpredictable," Victoria smiled, cleaning the blood off her blade.

'I wonder why people treat her this way,' Guilliman wondered. Victoria was actually pretty down-to-earth from what he could see, but everyone treated her with so much formality and decorum as if they were truly speaking to royalty.

It was really strange.

Of course, Guilliman didn't know that he was the one who was strange in all honesty; her presence really wasn't oppressive… but he himself was, in truth…

A king, the King of Souls.

...

Several days later, the two cohorts descended toward the outpost very close to the evening, just as the sun was about to set.

After so long, it had been determined that they indeed had the power to see this battle through. They had enough people at level 6… Victoria herself had entered level 7, and between the two cohorts existed around 6 Grand echoes.

They were as prepared as they could ever be to face a mythic beast.

"Why are we stuck with this guy, by the way?"

Towards the right gate, three members of Cyrus's cohort could be seen crouching just below a rock, enough for them to see what was in front, but not enough to be seen.

"You guys should watch your mouths… he might hear you," one of the three men voiced, looking daggerly at the other two.

They were making fun of the young man with a rabbit-paw blade on his back, standing atop the rock looking directly at the gate.

They had no idea.
