Chapter 83 outpost seige
Guilliman, crouched atop a small rock, could be seen with a look of calming focus on his face. His hair danced in the wind as he looked forward.
It was finally that day.
Two weeks of striving fighting against dreadful monsters, to grow stronger—finally they would be sieging the outpost. It could either lead them to salvation or be a total waste of time.
One thing that couldn't be a waste, though, was the strength they had accumulated; it was the key to this door and many that would follow.
'They are in position, what's taking so long?'
Guilliman thought in his mind as he looked towards the other side of the outpost. There, Victoria and the main strike team were assembled to take down the mythic beast.
However, they didn't have a distraction of sorts, one that would draw the attention of the sentries on the right gate.
That distraction would be Guilliman and his men.
'Being a walking target is so stressful,' he smiled bitterly.
That was when he noticed a small spark of light a distance away from the position of the main strike force.
"Here we go," Guilliman stood up and, with a snap of his fingers, donned a green armour with shell plates nested all over it.
Tortie Shroud.
"You two, come with me," Guilliman quickly pointed to two of the men assigned to him, calling them forward.
They spoke for a minute, then descended from the rock together, slowly approaching the right gate.
The outpost's right gate was a shell of its former self, red all over from years of rust and wear. However, it still stood firmly and locked.
As the three approached it slowly, their eyes darted around, hoping not to get attacked.
Not Guilliman, though; he simply walked towards the gate with a look of utter confidence on his face, more like he was walking on a free road.
He didn't even dare to walk in the forest's paths with such leisure.
"Hmm," he soon reached the gate and kicked it open with a swing of his foot, causing a loud sound to erupt.
Immediately after he did so, vine spikes shot towards the gate, barreling towards him.
However, Guilliman and the other two were able to cut a majority of them rather easily as they walked into the area.
As soon as he stepped into the gate, a cloud of poison suddenly burst out from a couple of plants in his surroundings, quickly making its way towards him.
Guilliman didn't look surprised, though; he quickly pulled out some daggers and shot them at a few precise locations far from him.
‑boom
‑boom
‑boom
Explosions of fire erupted and slowly consumed several plant-like monsters. These explosions, of course, alerted the dormant creatures around to sprout into action, sending more waves of vine spikes.
The grand flora were pitching in now.
"Time to retreat!!" Guilliman, feeling a bit overwhelmed, shouted to the other two.
Holding back sacred spikes with his sword was easy, but the attacks from these grand plant folk were harder than anything. Plus, the poison was already upon them.
They could only get out.
For him, though, he would have to stay back for a couple more minutes.
He held his breath and activated soul pulse, his eyes focused on the other part of the outpost, where several silhouettes rushed in and started their own attacks.
"They got in," Guilliman nodded while swinging his swords, then with a small tap of his elbow, he alerted the person behind.
Morgan
Morgan, using his aspect, suddenly pulled Guilliman from within the cloud of poisonous smoke right towards where they were stationed.
"You alright?"
Just as he landed before them, Morgan frowned. The mission was to take out as many poison plants as they could before retreating, but it was explicitly said that they should abandon if the poison got close to them.
Guilliman seemed not to have heard that part…
"Ehn? Sure, I'm okay… the poison caused my eyes to water, though," Guilliman commented.
Actually, he was planning to walk through that cloud of poison while holding his breath to buy the strike force more time.
However, that didn't seem possible after he got held down by that barrage.
"Looks like I'll just have to go the other way around," Guilliman smirked.
His attack just then wasn't just meant to pull the attention of the grand plants—it was also to destroy the poisonous plants near the left gate.
Right now, no matter how much poison they released, it wouldn't be able to get to them over there.
It also meant that he could follow behind them.
Guilliman stood up quickly and summoned the gushing spring echo and used it to wash his eyes. After which he summoned Ghost and climbed atop it.
"Are you guys coming? Or what? You don't want to be a part of a mythic kill?" he asked, a joking look on his face.
Victoria and Cyrus decided that they didn't need to join after taking the full brunt of the right gate, but who was that helping? Definitely not them.
The bragging rights of killing a mythic beast—or what if they killed the thing? He could remember Thane killing one and getting pushed to level 9.
They would be stupid if they didn't join.
"Sure, we'll go," the three of them nodded and climbed atop Ghost's hulking figure.
Seconds later, they were off, riding towards the left gate at full speed; the distance wasn't that much to cover—he was able to do it in under a minute… that is, with Ghost's help.
As soon as they got to the gate, though….
"Talk about overboard," Guilliman smiled; however, the look on the faces of the other three was horrid.
The creature around had been utterly decimated; its bodies had been split apart and mutilated, leaving in their wake a trail of corpses.
‑boom!!!!!
As they observed, a loud sound resounded from the front as Barthold's figure was flung back into a wall.
"They've started already," Guilliman smirked and rode forward with a determined look on his face.
What do you think?
