Chapter 79: Chapter 0079: First Visit to the Lu Family3_1 Chapter 79: Chapter 0079: First Visit to the Lu Family3_1 After hearing Lu Tianzhi’s words, Father Lu realized.

Lu Jiang was oblivious to this incident, but Father Lu had a clear understanding of it. On that day, Lu Tianzhi told him about it. It turned out that the girl who helped Lu Tianzhi evade a group of children was Feng Qingxue! What a great destiny it was.

The most important point was that the incident proved Feng Qingxue really did not care about social status.

Father Lu’s regard for Feng Qingxue increased by three points in his heart, secretly pleased that he still entrusted the matchmaking to Wang Zhenguo for Lu Jiang even when Wang Jiao disagreed with the marriage. Therefore, he constantly urged Lu Jiang to start cooking.

“I’m going to help!” Although she was a guest, Feng Qingxue could not comfortably sit and let others prepare the meal for her.

The Lu Family did not have a kitchen, instead, a simple stove was set up under the straw shed outside the house.

Livestocks were more important than people. During winter, they were often fed boiled fodder, so every production team’s cowshed had a stove.

The two-hole stove made of earthen bricks, with a large and a small iron pot covered with wooden lids on the stove top, was piled with firewood made of shrub branches, cotton stems, corn cobs, and tree limbs in front of it.

Lu Jiang was busily scrubbing the pots and starting the fire, occupied on both ends.

He had been in the cooking squad when he was in the military, but having not done it for many years, he was rusty at it. It looked like he needed to relearn it.

“You take care of the fire, I’ll handle the rest!” Feng Qingxue casually tied on the black apron Father Lu usually used when cooking.

“How can that be?” Lu Jiang wiped his face, unknowingly smudging it with firewood ash.

Feng Qingxue smiled and said, “Why not?”

All the vegetables and meats were already cleaned and placed in various size dishes, with oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar prepared very completely. Feng Qingxue’s main task was to fry each dish and meat.

Although she had no professional training as a chef, her cooking skills were at the level of home-style dishes, which were good enough.

According to the Lu Family’s preparation, Feng Qingxue quickly came up with the menu after a brief thought: braised wild rabbit, radish stewed spare ribs, hot and sour shredded potatoes, and crucian carp soup. Radishes and potatoes were common winter storage vegetables at home.

As for the other vegetables and meats, she didn’t plan to cook it all but saved them for the Lu Family to eat later.

Lu Jiang was sitting on the futon in front of the stove, making a fire, and casually buried a few sweet potatoes in the ash underneath the stove.

Before the meal was ready, the sweet potatoes in the ash pile were cooked through.

Lu Jiang used a fire hook to dig out the sweet potatoes, “Qingxue, eat something first.”

With the big pot stewing wild rabbit and the small one stewing spare ribs, Feng Qingxue was kneading dough in a sand basin, mixing cornmeal with sorghum flour and wheat flour. Hearing Lu Jiang’s words, she turned around and smiled, “Serve it hot to Uncle Lu and the two kids. I’m not hungry now, and I’m busy.” She was busy sticking a round of pancakes to the big pot. When the rabbit meat was cooked, the pancakes were also ready.

“Alright then.” Lu Jiang called his nephew, “Take the sweet potatoes to eat, and give one to grandpa.”

The sweet potatoes were still very hot, holding a sweet potato, Lu Tianjun had to switch it between his left and right hand due to the heat, and he breathed heavily onto the sweet potato. When it was finally not so hot, he peeled off the blackened skin, and smudged his fingers black, revealing the white, tender inside of the sweet potato that was giving off an enticing aroma.

Lu Tianzhi was standing on his tiptoes, looking in the big pot, “Auntie Xue, what are we having for lunch?”

It smelled so good, Lu Tianzhi couldn’t help but take a breath, his eyes glittering, and then swallowed several times.

They had been eating meals cooked by Father Lu these years. Father Lu’s cooking skills were mediocre which usually resulted in the food either being half cooked or burnt, and the noodles were often boiled into a lump, and they were tasteless.

Feng Qingxue stuck the last piece of pancake to the pot, covered the pot, and smiled, “I made a lot of dishes, eat more later.”

“Okay!”
