Chapter 249 Not the Strongest, Not the Fastest… But the Smartest?!
The staff led them deeper into the building, where the more powerful beasts were kept.

They finally stopped before a row of protected cages. The staff then gestured toward the first beast. "This is Scaltor."
The beast was a massive lizard whose body was covered in thick metallic scales.
Each of his scales overlapped each other like armor plating. Even at rest, its muscles looked dense and powerful.
"Scaltor is a beast known for its overwhelming physical strength."
"Its bite can shatter armor, and its body is naturally resistant to both blades and magic."
Loreia observed it for a moment, tapping her chin. "It looks slow."
The staff smiled. "It is, but if you're looking for something that can charge through enemies like a battering ram, Scaltor is unmatched."
Luna glanced at Loreia. "Not your style, though, is it?"
Loreia shook her head. "I prefer something more… versatile."
The staff nodded and moved on. "Then, how about this one? Meet Cindarox."
The next beast was a red-scaled lizard with black obsidian spikes running down its spine like jagged blades.
Its claws and fangs were also constantly engulfed in flames and they could feel the heat from standing near it.
"Cindarox is a fire-type beast with high agility. Its claws can melt through steel, and its obsidian spikes make it extremely dangerous in close combat."
Loreia watched as the lizard let out a low growl, scratching the ground, burning it. "Strong, but fire is too common. I want something more unique."
The staff smiled knowingly. "Then perhaps Voltigon will interest you."
The third beast was a yellow, black-scaled lizard. Its body was constantly crackling with static electricity.
Its most striking feature was its tail that was split into three whips, each one crackling with thunder energy.
The staff then explained the third beast. "Voltigon is a thunder element lizard with exceptional speed. Its tail whips can paralyze enemies while dealing rapid strikes."
Loreia was a bit interested in it. "This one is quite impressive."
Lucius smirked. "It fits your fighting style, too. Quick, unpredictable, and hard-hitting."
Loreia nodded but didn't decide immediately. She turned to the staff. "Is there anything else?"
The staff grinned. "Yes, one more—Venslith."
They then went to the fourth beast. This lizard had black and green scales that helped it to blend into its surroundings.
The staff then explained it. "Venslith is a stealth-based beast and had venomous fangs that could cause paralysis within seconds."
Loreia raised her eyebrow, watching the lizard move soundlessly.
Luna crossed her arms. "This one is deadly. I like it."
Liora nodded. "A solid choice for assassination-based combat."
Loreia exhaled, looking at the options before her. "Alright… these are all strong. Now I just have to decide."
Loreia also tried to see other cages to find if there were other beasts that interested her and she found one.
It was a large but elegant reptile. It had a big body, resembling more of a drake than a typical lizard with its shining silver scales.
She stepped closer and gestured toward it. "What about this one?"
The staff member followed her line of sight and nodded. "Ah, this one is called Argentis."
Loreia tilted her head. "Argentis?"
The staff smiled. "Yes. It's known as one of the most beautiful reptilian beasts due to its shining silver scales."
The staff gestured toward it. "It has a strong and healthy body, but unlike the others, it is not naturally aggressive. It's calm by nature and doesn't behave like a typical warrior beast."
Loreia frowned slightly. "Then why is it in this section?"
The staff hesitated for a moment before explaining. "That's the strange part. Despite not being an aggressive or predatory species, Argentis is incredibly difficult to capture."
The staff pointed at his head. "Its intelligence surpasses most reptilian beasts, and even skilled tamers struggle to tame one. We were fortunate to have caught this one."
Luna raised her eyebrow. "So it's not a fighter, but it's hard to catch? Sounds like a contradiction."
Liora observed the beast silently before speaking. "It's not that strange. Some creatures rely on instincts and power, while others survive through intelligence and adaptability."
Loreia stared at Argentis, watching as it blinked its bright silver eyes.
Unlike the other lizards, which growled or displayed their power in some way, Argentis simply existed.
It was composed and regal at the same time, unbothered by its captivity.
Loreia didn't hesitate at all. She pointed straight at Argentis and declared, "I want this one."
Luna and Liora both turned to her in sync.
"What?" Luna blinked. "You're picking this one?"
Liora narrowed her eyes. "That's unexpected. Why?"
Loreia smirked, crossing her arms. "Because it's cool. And also… it's silver."
Luna groaned. "That's it? That's your whole reason?"
Loreia grinned. "Think about it. You both have silver beasts—Loxen, the Shadow Panther, and Leon, the Silver Flame Lion. So, it only makes sense that I get one too."
Liora stared at her for a moment before exhaling. "That logic is ridiculous."
Luna placed a hand on her forehead. "So we're picking beasts based on matching colors now? You do realize combat strength is more important, right?"
Loreia waved her hand. "Oh, relax. I'm not just choosing it for the color. Argentis is unique. It's intelligent, and it's hard to tame. That means there's something special about it that others don't see yet."
Luna tapped her chin. "Alright, fine. I'll give you that. Rare creatures usually have hidden potential. But still, compared to the others, it doesn't have overwhelming attack power."
Loreia smirked. "Who said I need brute strength? If I wanted that, I'd have chosen Scaltor. But I want something different. Something that's smart, adaptable, and not just another muscle-head beast."@@novelbin@@
Liora studied Argentis carefully. The drake-like reptile sat calmly in its enclosure, unbothered by their presence.
It wasn't posturing aggressively or trying to assert dominance like the others. Instead, it simply watched them.
"It doesn't act like a wild beast," Liora noted. "It's observing us."
Luna raised her eyebrow. "You think it understands what's happening?"
Liora nodded slightly. "Maybe not fully, but it's aware. More than the others, at least."
Loreia's smirk widened. "Exactly why I picked it. I don't need a dumb brute. I need something that thinks."
Luna shrugged. "Alright, fine. But don't complain later if it ends up being hard to train."
Loreia scoffed. "Oh, I know it'll be hard to train. That just makes it more worth it."
Liora crossed her arms. "So you're the type that enjoys making things difficult for yourself?"
Loreia chuckled. "Not difficult—challenging. There's a difference."
Luna sighed dramatically. "Ugh, whatever. Just don't expect us to help if this thing refuses to listen to you."
Loreia grinned. "Oh, I wouldn't dream of it."
Liora glanced at the staff. "We'll take it."
What do you think?
