Chapter 226 226
Aiden had felt devastated when he got Ariel's message. He had immediately postponed all meetings and plans and hurried out of his party.
His heart was pounding as he drove to the destination Ariel had sent him. He never expected such a thing to happen after so long of living peacefully with his family; why did it have to happen? Were they never meant to be happy?
Aiden's blood turned cold the moment he reached the street that was sent in the address, he might not have recognized the name from the text at first, but as he slowly drove into it, his bones felt weakened as he remembered that this was the same street his mother had lived after his father divorced her.
He remembered because Grandma Nari had brought him here with an officer to serve a restraining order on Emily. He would never forget it, that was the last day he set eyes on his failure of a mother.
Now, his heart bled as he thought of every possible coincidence that could lead Ariel to his mother.
He had hoped that maybe it was the same street but a different block; however, his hopes died on him the moment his car came to a stop in front of the familiar block, and dread washed over him.
You might be wondering why Aiden came alone with no bodyguards or officers; it's because Emily had texted him with Ariel's phone asking him to come alone. If not, she would kill his wife and children.
She had even been so thoughtful and sent him a picture of Ariel and Jace lying on the floor, their hands and legs bound together in one chain.
His limbs were shaking as he got out of his car and walked toward the house; he didn't know what he was expecting to happen at the end of this miserable day, but he hoped he had his wife and children back at his side, alive.
He gulped and slowly knocked on the door as he reached the front of the grey building. The street was oddly quiet that evening, the trees were waving around in a slow motion from the light wind that pushed them around.
His heart was heavy, and he couldn't put away the unsettling feeling he felt in his gut.
He looked around the quiet street and knocked on the door again; his phone vibrated in his pocket and he quickly checked it.
"Come in, son," Emily texted.
Aiden took a deep breath before twisting the handle and pushing the door in.
He frowned; the house was empty, not a single piece of furniture. He could recall that the living room used to look a bit decorated, but now, it looked as if the place hadn't been lived on for years, he could see cobwebs all over the ceiling, and the air was thick with dust and a little moisture, his throat felt irritated.
Aiden paused, snapping his head back when he heard a sound behind him, but he couldn't find anyone. He turned to continue but that's when he saw a man standing in front of him. His heart almost flew out of his chest from the man's unexpected appearance.
"Where's my wife and child?" Aiden asked, balling his fists.
"Follow me, Aiden," The man said and turned away, leading Aiden toward a closed door.
Aiden gritted his teeth, the man had no single respect.
He followed the man, his eyes watching the room to check if there were any more people.
"Enter," The man stood beside the door and pushed it open, pointing his hand into the dark room.
Aiden hesitated, but he knew he had no choice but to go in, he took a deep breath and walked into the dark room.
The door closed behind him, and the next thing he felt was the cold mouth of a gun pressing behind his head.
He went completely still, heart racing, thoughts jumbled; he couldn't see anything in the dark room, he couldn't hear anyone either, but he was sure that the gun behind his head was from the man that had led him into the room.
He suddenly started hearing footsteps walking toward him in the dark room, a very familiar footstep, the one he'd heard and crawl under his bed as a child.
He thought he was over it, over Emily, but facing her again without warning awakened those horrible memories that had been buried and forgotten.
How he hated his mother.
"Easy on my son, D. He's easily scared," Emily chuckled.
The light suddenly came on, allowing Aiden to come face to face with the monster that had birthed him.
"Hello, son, miss me?" Emily smiled eerily at Aiden.
However, Aiden's eyes didn't settle on Emily for long, his eyes immediately found Ariel and Jace lying on the floor in a corner of the room.
He was still trying to assess the whole situation when he saw the blood staining between Ariel's legs.
He balled his fists so hard that his nails dug into his palm, leaving a deep mark.
Aiden couldn't move; he had D pointing a gun at him with Emily standing in front of him; there was no way he could get to them.
Aiden sighed and looked at Emily, "I need to take my family to the hospital, Emily. What do you -"
"Uh, ah, ah, it's mother, Aiden. Don't be rude to your Mummy," She smiled, raising his hand to touch his face, but Aiden moved his face away from her.
"Don't fucking touch me, you crazy bitch - fuck! You-"
Aiden was kicked down by D when he tried to hit Emily for slapping him.
"Watch your actions, Aiden, or you'll join your stupid family," Emily stepped her foot on top of Aiden's hands.
Aiden grunted in pain, his jaws clenching as he tried to control his pain and anger.
His eyes went over to Ariel and he felt completely helpless.
"You're so stupid, Aiden. I told you to come alone, and you actually trusted me and drove your stupid self here, alone. You didn't learn anything from our past, Aiden, you're still a stupid kid, trusting your mummy blindly." She chuckled and walked over to Ariel.
She lowered herself in front of Ariel and rolled her hair around her index finger.
"Get your fuckingbhands away from her," Aiden growled.
Emily laughed, "Oh? In sure you've seen the blood? Yes. It's your little fucking twins, Aiden; they're leaving; they should be no more heirs to the Chaz family; I should be the rightful heir; I am the rightful heir," She glared at him.
Aiden chuckled, "This is why you were never loved, Emily. Your husband divorced you, your child disowned you. Now, you're trying to make everyone as miserable as you, you're pathetic," Aiden daunted.
Emily scoffed, "I don't give a fuck about your father's love, Aiden... but as for you disowning me? That's something we need to reorganize, dear son. In two minutes, I will be the only heir you have, and your wife and children will be dead; now, I have an antidote; if you want to save them, you can either make me your only her and transfer everything you have to me, or watch them die in front of you, and still transfer everything to me, either way, I win." She gave him a sinister smile.
Aiden's eyes went from Ariel to Jace, "Okay, Emily, I hear you, I can give you everything I've worked for, I don't mind, but two minutes is too small a time for us to complete such a heavy transfer, how about you give them the antidote and we can have a proper conversation?" He suggested cautiously, keeping his calm, but his insides were trembling as he stared at Ariel and Jace, knowing that in two minutes, they'd be dead.
Emily laughed loudly, "You think I'm stupid?" She snapped her head at him, "You think I'll let you outsmart me like you did years ago, you little punk!" She got up and marched toward him.
"Get him up, D. We're taking a nice seeing trip to the bank, and he's going to pay me all the money his stupid father refused to give me after our divorce, that's why I married him in the first place. He left me with nothing, no money, no fame, nothing! Get him up!" She shouted hysterically.
Aiden felt himself being hauled up by D., he let his eyes glance at his wife and child for the last time before he followed D out of the room, cautiously walking as as he felt the gun behind his head once again.
As they walked across the empty living room, Emily hooked her arm around. Don't worry, Son, we'll appear as the loving mother and son duo; you just have to tell them that you want to make your sweet mummy your next of kin to your every property. Once again, you're very stupid for trusting me; it was nice knowing your wife and child; there were such good souls," She giggled.
Aiden gritted his teeth, quietly walking to the door.
"Open the door, D," Emily ordered, her tone wicked.
D bowed his head and pushed Aiden to the side, keeping his gun pointed toward him so that he wouldn't run away.
He slowly unlocked the door.
"Argh!" Emily screamed, her eyes widened in horror and shock.
D fell to the floor the moment the door opened, blood trickling out from over his head.
Emily immediately moved to run away, but a hand caught her, pinning her to the ground, "You're under arrest, Ms. Emily," An officer spine above her.
"N-no! You fool, you dare do this to your mother!" She shouted at Aiden.
Aiden simply smirked at her, "It's a shame you trusted me again, Emily. You should have learned from our past never to take me for granted," He said to her.
"Take her away, Officer," He ordered.
Emily cried and struggled, begging Aiden to give her another chance to be a mother to him, but it all fell on deaf ears, she was pushed into the police car, handcuffed, and on her way to jail.
What do you think?
