Chapter 47: Second Innate ability
Suddenly the empower lion King would laugh.
"HAHAHAHHAA!"
The lion's laughter was ragged, hoarse, but unyielding. It echoed across the silent savanna, eerie and defiant.
Even as its body trembled, barely standing under its own weight, it exuded a terrifying willpower that refused to bow.
White foam dripped from its massive jaws, muscles quivering, eyes wild with madness.
It should have been at death's door, its body struggling under the venom coursing through its veins, but instead, it moved forward, step by agonizing step.
"Haha… HAHAHA! I am the King of this land! You think mere trickery will defeat me?! This will not fall easily!!!" the lion roared, its golden mane, now drenched in sweat, sticking to its powerful shoulders.
Wei Long clicked his tongue.
This beast was stubborn. He had already pumped it full of toxins that could fell a hundred beasts, yet it still moved, still fought, as if sheer will alone could defy death.
Annoying.
With a snarl, the lion lunged, its claws slicing through empty air, missing the camouflaged Wei Long by inches. But it didn't stop.
Again, and again, it struck, raking at the ground, at the air, at anything that could possibly be hiding the intruder that had dared to challenge its reign.
The earth trembled under its fury, each strike causing dust and debris to rise in the air.
Wei Long crouched, unmoving. If he didn't move, he wouldn't be detected.
The lion was fighting a battle it had already lost, a beast struggling against inevitability. But even knowing that, the sheer pressure it exerted was impressive.
The lion's movements were getting wilder, its breath more ragged. The poison was doing its work. Wei Long smirked.
But then—
BOOM!
The lion slammed its paw into the ground with everything it had left.
The very earth beneath them cracked, rippling outward like waves from an earthquake.
Trees shook, their leaves raining down in droves. Rocks split apart, dust rising in thick clouds that obscured everything.
Wei Long gritted his teeth, his claws digging into the dirt to steady himself.
BOOM!
The lion did it again. And again. And again.
Each time, the force spread wider, deeper, as if it sought to shake the very air itself, to force Wei Long out of his hidden state. Wei Long's heart pounded.
If this continued, he'd have no choice but to move—and the moment he moved, he'd be vulnerable.
BOOM!
A massive chunk of earth cracked beneath the lion's claws, breaking apart like a fractured shell.
The beast panted, its sides heaving, but its laughter didn't stop. It was crazed, delirious, but triumphant.
"If I'm going to die here… THEN I'LL GIVE IT MY ALL!!" the lion bellowed.
Wei Long tensed.
The lion's massive muscles flexed one last time, gathering every ounce of strength it had left.
BOOM!!!
The final strike sent shockwaves that split the ground wide open.
Grass and dirt flew in every direction, trees snapped, and the very air trembled from the sheer force.
Wei Long, despite himself, stumbled.
Just for a fraction of a second. But it was enough.
The lion turned its head sharply, its bloodshot eyes locking onto the disturbance. Wei Long's position was exposed.
"Tch."
With the last dregs of its strength, the lion moved.
Faster than it had any right to. Its massive form lunged, its claws outstretched, ready to tear into Wei Long's very existence. But—
It was too late.
The venom had finally reached its heart.
Before its claws could touch him, the lion's legs buckled.
Its body collapsed in mid-air, crashing to the ground with a deafening THUD.
The King of the Pride lay motionless, its breath labored, its vision dimming.
The light in its amber eyes flickered, its powerful body twitching as the last remnants of its strength faded away.
Wei Long straightened, dusting himself off. He exhaled a breath he hadn't realized he was holding.
That… had been close.
If the lion had lasted just a little longer, if it had forced him to move again, the outcome might have been different.
He stepped forward, standing over the once-mighty beast.
The lion's eyes, hazy with the veil of death, flickered up at him.
"…It's not done yet…" the lion rasped, voice weak.
Then, silence.
The King had fallen.
Finally.
Wei Long sighed, rolling his shoulders. "Hah, finally. My temporal spiritual essence was almost drained… If this dragged on any longer, I would've been in trouble."
He cracked his neck and let his gaze settle on the fallen lion. "Well then… Let's see if you taste as strong as you fought."
He opened his jaws.
The first bite sank deep into the lion's still-warm flesh.
The taste—rich, powerful, unlike anything he had ever consumed.
Energy coursed through his body with every chew, an intoxicating rush of strength that made his very bones tremble in delight.
His scales tingled, his muscles flexed involuntarily, absorbing the sheer essence of the King's might.
He ate.
And ate.
And ate.
Each bite was savored, each swallow a rush of raw power flooding his being.
He devoured with the hunger of a beast that knew no limit, the insatiable appetite of a predator at the top of the food chain.
The taste of victory was sweeter than any delicacy, more fulfilling than any hunt before it.
It was intoxicating.
It was exhilarating.
The marrow, the flesh, the bones—all became part of him.
He consumed everything, leaving nothing but the echoes of what once was.
The Empower Lion was no more, its existence now residing within him, fueling his evolution.
And then—
DING!
A familiar sound rang through his mind.
Wei Long froze mid-bite, his eyes widening slightly.
That sound…
Bio-engineering system!?
But nothing happened.
After a long time, Wei Long stood motionless, his body drenched in sweat and blood.
The battlefield was eerily silent, save for the occasional gust of wind that swept across the golden-brown savanna.
The once-lush grasslands were now a torn landscape of uprooted trees, cracked earth, and deep claw marks carved into the soil.
His breathing was deep but controlled, and the taste of iron still lingered in his mouth from the fight.
The Empower Lion was gone, consumed, and yet, the true battle had just begun.
Suddenly, the same familiar ding echoed in his mind.
Ding!
The host discovered a DNA strain containing an extremely rare ability type: Conditional Innate Ability.
Name: Wei Long.
Level: 11 Mortal Beast.
Age: 2 days.
Race: Dinosaur Hybrid.
Current Stage: Juvenile Dinosaur.
Innate Abilities:
1. Predatory Bio-engineering
2. Currently Being Created…
Clan: Blue Eyes White Heaven Dragons.
Wei Long's eyes flickered with interest as he scanned the new information. "Conditional Innate Ability, huh?" he murmured, licking the blood off his lips.
His excitement was cut short by another notification.
Ding!
Note: All the abilities of the Empower Lion won't be taken as the Bio-engineering system takes priority making the host become a top predator which is to take a conditional innate ability.
Warning!
Do not move recklessly during the process, or the Conditional Innate Ability will disappear!
Wei Long scoffed. "Tch. That's a first." He had never encountered a restriction like this before, but he wasn't about to take any chances.
He planted his feet firmly into the cracked earth and prepared to wait.
At first, it was calm.
The savanna breathed with the wind, sweeping dust into the air and carrying the scent of battle away.
The golden grass, flattened from the fight, swayed lazily as if nature itself was sighing in relief.
Above him, the sky had shifted to a deep orange hue, the last remnants of daylight fading beyond the horizon.
Small creatures cautiously peeked from their burrows, sensing the aftermath of a predator's rampage but hesitant to move closer.
The distant chirping of birds returning to the trees filled the air with an eerie tranquility.
Wei Long remained still, his body already beginning the process of adapting to the Empower Lion's DNA.
He could feel something shifting deep inside him, like a puzzle being rearranged at the molecular level.
A tingling sensation spread through his limbs, growing stronger with each second.
Then, the wind changed.
A scent—faint at first but unmistakable—drifted into his nostrils.
His pupils shrank.
He knew this scent.
The scent of more lions.
Wei Long's eyes snapped to the distance, scanning the far edges of the battlefield.
At first, he saw nothing but the rolling savanna stretching endlessly beyond the hills.
Then, a figure emerged from the tall grass.
A lioness.
She was stalking towards him, her body low to the ground, muscles coiled and ready to pounce.
Her golden eyes locked onto him, burning with something he recognized all too well—vengeance.
Wei Long exhaled through his nose. "Here we go…"
Then, another lioness stepped into view.
Then another.
And another.
Within moments, the entire horizon seemed to shift as countless lionesses began to emerge, their sleek bodies moving in deadly unison.
Dozens turned into hundreds.
They came from all directions, encircling the battlefield like specters of the dead, their silent approach more terrifying than any roar.
Their eyes gleamed with fury, their tails flicking with agitation.
Wei Long realized something grim—these were the mates, the mothers, the sisters, and the daughters of the fallen King.
They weren't just here to kill him.
They were here to avenge him.
He clenched his jaw. He couldn't move.
Not yet.
The system's warning was clear—if he moved recklessly, the Conditional Innate Ability would vanish. But waiting meant allowing himself to be surrounded completely.
The lionesses stopped a few paces away from him, their ears pinned back, their fangs bared.
Low growls rumbled through the air like an approaching storm.
Wei Long remained motionless, calculating.
'Damn it… How long is this ability gonna take?'
One of the lionesses stepped forward, her powerful frame even larger than the others.
Her scarred body and piercing golden eyes told Wei Long all he needed to know—she was the leader of this pride now.
She took another step, then another, her gaze never leaving his.
Finally, she spoke, her voice a mix of grief and rage.
"You murdered our King."
Wei Long smirked slightly. "Murder? That's a strong word. He and I had a fair fight. He lost."
The lioness's growl deepened. "You stole his strength."
Wei Long didn't deny it. He simply tilted his head. "And?"
The leader's claws dug into the dirt. "Then we'll take yours."
Wei Long felt his heart pound harder.
The ability was still forming.
He needed time.
'Stalling won't work for long…'
The lioness let out a sharp, guttural roar—a signal.
Every lioness in the pride crouched, their muscles tensing, ready to pounce.
Wei Long grinned.
"…Bring it on."
What do you think?
