Chapter 373 A Slave's Blessings in Disguise

She observed it all with the patience of a woman who had seen and guided the shaping of an empire. Leaning back slightly, she crossed one leg over the other, watching the affectionate mess unfolding before her with a soft chuckle.

"Look at them, Silent Night." Emberly's voice was smooth, laced with quiet amusement. "Tell me, is this what you imagined when you first entered my house?"

Silent Night swallowed. "…No. Not anything like this Duchess. Everything baffled my expectations of what I had always expected of House Obsidian." Silent Night talked casually to Emberly which the mistress didn't mind since, although her current status here was that of a slave—her son's slave, Silent Night had a high representation in the court and served a great purpose in the empire and Emberly respected people like her to allow a casual talk.

After all, Silent Night was not Drakos who Emberly hated and also now part of the big family although on a lower spectrum. Such a shame.

Silent Night was a great asset—was going to be

"Mm, my son has always been this way." Silent Night's brows furrowed slightly, confused.

Emberly tilted her head, watching Pyris as he held Emilia close while Alexa and Alera draped themselves around him with quiet satisfaction. "You expected cruelty, didn't you? A warlord ruling with an iron fist?"

Silent Night didn't answer, but the hesitation in her expression said everything but still nodded watching the scene of pure love and warmth of the young lord of House Obsidian.

"But make no mistake, Night, don't let that warmth fool you and underestimate him," Silent Night shoke her head, how could she, where would she find a good reason to underestimate Pyris after what happened this morning. She'd seen him single hardly take down two vampires on his own. Vampires she couldn't take on herself before he manipulated her into letting her guard down, the rest was history and here was—a slave to this dragon.

But she felt relief in that too, only that, that relief dependend on fleeting hope that Pyris would at least protect her is the day she needed it came.

But she knew her place a slave and wouldn't dare to ask that and only left to... Hope! What a dangerous beast fate was. Only that she didn't know fate had no hands in her current situation.

Emberly continued, her tone darkening ever so slightly. "My son is a conqueror. A ruler. But a ruler is not just the strength of his sword—he is also the strength of those who stand beside him. I expect a lot from you young Night and I promise you you will be rewarded. We don't treat our own less than other, slave or not."

Silent Night looked between them once more—the quiet closeness, the teasing warmth, the way Pyris's presence seemed to ground all of them, like an unshakable force holding them together.@@novelbin@@

It was… strange.

But strangely comforting. The duchess's words grounded this comfort. For the first time in a long while, she felt something unfamiliar in her chest.

Belonging? Was it her or the slithering words of the duchess?

The morning had barely settled when Nysa and Zara arrived at Sunstone Empire, their presence shifting the very atmosphere of the place. Ammit, who had spent the early hours overseeing the actives going in the underground laboratory, was unsurprised to see Zara again—but the woman beside her?

That was a different story.

From the moment Ammit laid eyes on Nysa, something deep in her instincts screamed at her to look away.

The demoness, powerful as she was, had never experienced such a reaction before. She had the ability to discern power levels, to see things beyond mortal comprehension. But when she attempted to grasp what Nysa was—

Pain.

A deep, piercing ache bloomed behind her eyes, forcing her to avert her gaze. It was like staring into a void so primordial that her senses outright rejected it.

Nysa merely smiled at her, her expression polite—almost friendly—but Ammit knew better. That was no ordinary woman. And the startling part? The true depth of Nysa's nature remained completely hidden.

Ammit forced her expression to remain neutral as she stepped forward, her usual confidence unwavering.

"Ah, you must be Ammit, the young noble's woman in charge of this place?" Nysa's voice was smooth, laced with something unreadable.

Ammit gave a slow nod. "I was informed of your arrival."

There was no need for drawn-out formalities. Alexa had briefed her the night before, making it clear that Nysa required no excessive introductions. And so, without further delay, Ammit led the way.

"If you'd follow me, Lady Nysa."

The trio walked through the compound, the eerie stillness broken only by the soft hum of the facility's inner workings. Eventually, they reached the capsule holding Silas—the bald but deceptively handsome vampire who had been subdued in the battle in the Unknown Zones.

Nysa barely hesitated. "This is going to be disgusting as fuck, but..." she sighed, her fingers stretching forward before plunging through the capsule's surface like it was mere mist, her hand phased through unhindered.

Ammit tensed as she watched Nysa's hand phase directly through to Silas's unconscious form, her single finger landed on Silas's finger nail as if disgusted to even touch his finger.

"Collect."

Nysa's expression remained calm—until her eyes fluttered shut. Half a minute passed, the silence stretching unbearably. Then, with a sharp exhale, she pulled her hand away.

"Ew," she muttered, shaking her fingers like she had just touched something repulsive. But despite her disgust, there was a small, satisfied smile tugging at her lips.

Ammit's brow furrowed slightly. "You retrievedinformation?"

"All of it, curious Ammit."

That explained why Alexa hadn't even bothered interrogating Silas. There was no need when Nysa could extract everything in mere seconds.

Ammit glanced at Silas's unconscious form, considering. Whatever happens to him after now… it won't be pleasant now that the only useful thing he had, had been collected. But at least, he wouldn't take his secrets to the grave, hypothetically speaking.

"Nasty," Nysa muttered, shaking her head. "These guys are nasty, like my brother."

Ammit had no idea who her 'brother' was, but considering what she had just witnessed Nysa achieved with just a touch, with just , she was certain she didn't want to meet him.

Then, before Ammit could even respond, Nysa turned to her with an almost casual tone. "Oh, right. We've been told to take you back with us."

"What?" Ammit blinked, but she didn't get the chance to protest. Because the moment she registered what was happening, Nysa had already grabbed her hand—

And in the next instant, Zara's power surged.

The world around them vanished.
